Chapter 13
What I didn’t expect was that,
the night before Damian and Nora’s wedding,
the hospital suddenly called, and the first thing they said was that my husband had been in a car accident.
I glanced at Vincent, who was driving beside me, and asked in confusion,
My husband is right here next to me. Are you sure you’ve got the right person?”
The doctor on the other end hesitated for a moment before replying,
“It’s not a mistake. The note we have says ‘wife.‘ By the way, the patient’s name is Damian.”
Upon hearing that, I calmly responded,
“Clearly, there’s been a mistake. My husband isn’t Damian.”
“Let me give you the contact for Damian’s wife, Nora. You can contact her.”
The nurse on the phone spoke awkwardly.
“The Nora you mentioned is also in our hospital. She and the child are in a coma. It seems like you know them.”
“If you have time, you might want to come down…”
After Vincent and I rushed to the hospital,
we found that the situation was far worse than we’d imagined.
The police investigation showed that
the child had suddenly come down with a fever,
ånd while Damian was driving the child to the hospital, a disagreement broke out between him and
མ་
Nora.
This led Damian to drive recklessly, running multiple red liel
On the last red light,
he collided with an oncoming truck.
Fortunately, Damian reacted quickly, swerving the wheel to avoid the truck,
which saved his life,
But he still couldn’t stop the car in time and crashed into the greenbelt.
When the police and medical team arrived,
Damian’s legs were already trapped under the driver’s seat, unable to be pulled out.
As for Nora, though she was strapped into the passenger seat and should have been fine,
she unbuckled her seatbelt just before the car hit the greenbelt.
She lunged forward to protect Damian’s head from the impact.
The child, sitting in the car seat, was only slightly frightened.
But both Nora and Damian were severely injured from the crash.
After hearing the police’s account, I felt a deep, indescribable sorrow.
Not because of Damian or Nora,
but because of their child.
Born into such a family,
with a father who doesn’t care and a mother who doesn’t love–what kind of suffering might await this child?
After covering the medical bills for Damian and Nora,
and arranging a nanny for the child,
I had no reason to stay at the hospital.
After all, with Damian’s obsession with me,
might get more agitated if he woke up and saw me, which could affect his recovery.
The car accident was so severe that
Damian had to have both legs amputated.
This incident caused quite a stir in the industry.
During the previous conflict between the two brothers of the Howard family,
the shareholders who had been supporting Damian all sided with Vincent instead.
Even Howard’s patriarch, who had always favored Damian,
shook his head upon hearing the news. “Tch, useless.”
He then turned his attention to cultivating Vincent to take over the Howard family business.
After his impulsive actions, Damian was ultimately abandoned by everyone.
Later on,
we heard that Nora had woken up and was in stable condition.
Vincent and I then stopped our secret assistance to them.
After her recovery,
Nora returned to her acting career to make a living.
But because of her previous remarks,
and now that she no longer had the Howard family backing her,
she was often targeted by her peers in the industry, with very few opportunities to appear. She could only take minor roles.
As for Damian, after having his legs amputated,
the Howard family only covered his medical and daily expenses.
They didn’t care for him otherwise.
After this blow, Damian completely spiraled.
He stayed at home all day, letting Nora support him.

Sometimes, he wanted to escape from Nora, to escape from his life,
but Nora wouldn’t give him a wheelchair
and restricted his outings.
She was like a madwoman, trying to keep him by her side,
and he couldn’t escape.
