Chapter 6
I turned and left the banquet.
Half an hour later, Damian rushed back in a hurry.
When he saw me at home, he let out a long sigh of relief. “Violet, you scared me. You didn’t pick up the phone.”
It should have taken over an hour to get home from the banquet hall, but Damian made it in just half an hour. Seeing the fine sweat on his forehead from the rush,
I felt more and more disoriented.
Damian loved me, I knew that, but at the same time, he had fallen for Nora.
What I wanted, though, was to be chosen–unequivocally, without hesitation.
Damian’s infidelity was a dealbreaker for me. I could never forgive him for that!
Noticing something was off with me, he nervously explained, “Nora was bullied, and I saw she was really upset. I went to the garden to comfort her for a bit, after all, she’s the one I brought.”
“Violet, are you angry?”
I’d heard enough of his clumsy lies, and I impatiently closed my eyes.
“No, I’m just tired.”
That night, Damian chose to sleep in a separate room.
We didn’t speak for seven straight days.
Before the final scenes of the movie were shot, Damian came to pick me up to go to the set.
“Violet, are you still mad at me? Believe me, nothing’s going on with Nora!”
“I swear, Violet, please don’t be angry anymore.”
I just nodded perfunctorily, signaling that I wasn’t mad and had forgiven him.
After all, once this scene was done, the press conference would be in a week.
I knew Damian was planning to propose to me at the press conference.
By then, my carefully planned escape would finally happen.
I got my makeup and costume ready for the shoot.
The last scene was the one where the female protagonist drowns in a lake.
To ensure realism, the crew decided to film on location.
But of course, I was on my period that day.
I held back the discomfort and filmed the scene of me sinking into the lake twice.
The director wasn’t fully satisfied.
On the third take, the cold water made my lower abdomen suddenly cramp with excruciating pain.
When I got out of the water, my face was pale and my lips were turning blue.
The director suggested that Nora, the stand–in, take over for the final three seconds of the scene.
Everyone knew Mr. Howard was very protective of his girlfriend, so this suggestion was sure to be approved.
But Damian thought for a moment.
He turned to the director and said, “Let Violet do it, just three seconds.”
There was an audible gasp from the crew, and everyone’s faces showed shock.
I was in so much pain I couldn’t even keep the color in my face, but I lifted my head and stared deeply at him.
Damian hurriedly tried to explain,
“Violet, Nora just had a baby. She can’t take risks, or it might cause her health problems, so…”
I ignored his words, took off the coat wrapped around me, and called out to the director.
“It’s fine, continue filming.”
Before I could finish, a coat with a deep wooden fragrance was draped over me.

“Stop filming, go find another stand–in.”
The sudden appearance of Vincent made everyone stop and stare.
Vincent casually lifted his eyes as he wrapped me up, and with a mocking smile, he looked at
Damian.
“Sorry, I can’t bear to see a beautiful woman drowning.‘
་་
Damian grew increasingly frustrated upon seeing him, and walked over to protect me.
“This is my girlfriend, so there’s no need for you to worry about her. And I warn you, stay out of it.”
Your girlfriend? I’m an outsider?”
Vincent curled his lips into a sly smile. “My dear younger brother, you’re still living in a dream.”
Damian didn’t understand what Vincent meant.
But I did.
The final scene ended.
The press conference would be happening in a week.
At last, I wouldn’t be trapped in
the tangled love triangle with Damian anymore.
