Before she finished, Chase put a dish of stir–fried pork in her bowl. Ashley paused,“…Thank you.” Chase said nothing. The matriarch usually meant for Chase to continuously serve Ashley. “Either way, Mom hasn’t slept with Dad in ages. Won’t you sleep with Dad?” “I’ll go back soon.” Their divorce wasn’t finalized; if she stayed, the matriarch would make a fuss. Leaving Sam’s room, she saw Chase in her room, working on his computer. He glanced at her. Ashley ignored him, went to the closet, got clothes, and showered. When she emerged, he was still typing. She sat by the bed, did her skincare routine, then read. They worked quietly, without communication.
