Leaving the stables, Ashley didn’t know where to go. Cindy and Tim were busy. She wanted to go to her family’s house, but Sam wasn’t there; she didn’t want to worry her mother. Seeing a wetland park with families camping or young people relaxing, Ashley felt a pang of envy and sadness. She stopped the car. After hesitating, she called,“Hello, is my mother doing okay?” An hour and a half later, she was at the Yihe Nursing Home. Seeing Lucy, frail and listless, Ashley felt a pang of sadness. The director said softly, “She’s the same; no changes.” Lucy couldn’t interact with others without becoming agitated. She was calm now; Ashley didn’t want to disturb er. She left the courtyard, then thanked the director and staff. She looked at Lucy through the window, left some books and supplies, and left.
She was still sad. Passing the park, seeing kites in the sky, she turned around and went inside. The park was pleasant, but she was alone. She was considering buying a kite when a small hand grasped hers.

Ashley looked up, surprised, “Burke?”
Burke nodded, holding her hand.
