Chase elegantly removed his tie.“You want an invitation?”
Ashley paused. “Yes.”
“Got it.” He went to his closet, then to the bathroom.
His ready agreement surprised her. But relieved, she set down her book and lay down. She fell asleep before he finished showering.

Because the auction was the day after tomorrow, Ashley returned to the villa after work the next evening. Chase wasn’t home, but Sam was. She asked Ashley to cook for her, which she did.

Just as she was about to shower, her phone buzzed twice. Cindy had sent two messages. Ashley paused. It was a screenshot of a WeChat post. A photo showed Tanya’s smiling face and Chase’s back against a fireworks display, captioned, “Beautiful fireworks tonight.” Other couples were visible, indicating a romantic spot. Tanya was clearly happy; the fireworks were beautiful, but her happiness was even more so. Chase was with her.
