Chapter 264
“When do you want to go?” she asked Sam.
Menu
Sam hesitated. Ashley knew she wanted to go when Tanya and Chase were unavailable, but she didn’t know their schedules.
Ashley said, “It’s okay. Let me know when you’re free, and if I’m available, we’ll go.” “Okay!” Sam said happily.
The week flew by. Ashley left work early on Friday. Just as she was about to prepare dinner, Sam
alled.
“Mommy, I’m free Saturday! Let’s go skiing!”
Ashley had promised, but she wasn’t taking her tomorrow. Tomorrow’s outing was semi–professional, and she didn’t want the added responsibility.
“I’m busy tomorrow. Pick another day.”
Sam whined, “But I want to go Saturday! Plo
“Not this Saturday. Next week. If
you
ommy?”
we’ll still want to go,
go
then.”
Sam persisted, trying to soften her up. Ashley remained firm.“Let me know next week. Eat your dinner properly, no picky eating.” She hung up.
Sam didn’t call again. Ashley knew she was probably upset, but she didn’t mind. She went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
The next day, Zark called to offer a ride, whichley declined. After breakfast, she drove to the ski resort. Zark and Dandan were already there.
Zark looked over, but Dandan ran towards Ashley.“Auntie!”
Ashley hugged her.“Dandan, you’ve grown taller, and your cheeks are chubbier. You’re even prettier.”
Dandan beamed.“I ate lots of meat!”
Just as Ashley was about to reply, Dandan pulled out a small crystal keychain.“Auntie, this is for you.” It was a miniature pink cat backpack with a white kitten inside–quite unique. It resembled the one on Sam’s backpack, but in a different color. It wasn’t unusual, given Zark’s frequent outings with Dandan, Chase, and Tanya.
but didn’t question
it.“It’s
beautiful.
Thank you,
Dandan.”
Ashley paused, Dandan, delighted, pulled Ashley inside.“Auntie, let’s ski!”
“Okay.”
Zark asked, “Did you have breakfast? We brought some. “No, I already ate.”
