Chapter 281
Chase, ignoring Ashley, lightly brushed Sam’s nose.“Daddy’s busy. Be good and listen to your mother,”
“Okay,” Sam mumbled, reluctantly glancing at Ashley before reaching for her hand. It was a tacít apology,
Ashley took her hand and left after greeting the butler. Mrs. Feng was already at the Rong residence. Seeing only mother and daughter, she frowned.“Where’s Chase? Busy again?”
Mm–hmm.”
Mrs. Feng picked up her phone to call him, but Mrs. Sterling, knowing about the impending divorce, intervened.“He’s busy. Don’t bother him.”
Sam went upstairs to play video games with Rong Yunhe. Ashley chatted with the two grandmothers. Mrs. Feng adored Mrs. Sterling’s new paintings, especially learning they were done with the stationery set Ashley had gifted her. She loved the stationery set too.“Where’s Chase? Did he get me anything?”
“Yes,” Mrs. Sterling said, though less cheerfully when mentioning him.“He sent a high–quality emerald necklace, and a lovely embroidered picture.”
Mrs. Feng smiled.“That’s better. It seems he listened to me.”
Ashley remained silent.
After some time in the study, the grandmothers went outside for tea. Mrs. Sterling looked at the house across the way.“It’s strange. That house was under nonstop renovation, and I thought the owners were eager to move in, but the work suddenly stopped.”
Mrs. Feng said, “Maybe something came up.”
“Maybe.” Ashley wanted to sell the house, but she was worried the Lins or Suns might buy it, so she’d left it alone. She hadn’t even gone inside since the Suns had been there.
