Chapter 313
Ren Jifeng asked, “Mr. Sterling’s here?”
“Mm–hmm,” Tanya replied, her voice softening.“My wound isn’t fully healed, and Chase’s worried sick, so he came to get me.” She didn’t look at Ashley.“Mr. Ren, we’ll be going now. See you next time.”
Ren Jifeng wanted to confront Ashley, but seeing Tanya’s disdain, he felt she was too superior to bother with such trivialities. Her arrogance and directness made her even more attractive. He felt Ashley was unworthy. He found himself genuinely disliking her.
He said to Tanya, “I’m leaving too. Let’s go together.”
Tanya nodded, and they left without looking back. Tanya ignored Ashley, but Ren Jifeng gave her a cold look before leaving. Ashley knew why; she was used to men disliking her because of Tanya. She gave him a cold look in return, ignoring them as she walked towards the exit. Ren Jifeng was surprised by her unapologetic boldness. He smirked, impressed by her audacity. Yonnie frowned, noticing her blatant disregard. Tanya subtly paused, then continued walking. Chase was waiting by his car. He paused, seeing Ashley with the Lins and Rens, but quickly looked away. Ashley, without acknowledging him, went to her car. She drove off, seeing Chase opening the car door for Tanya.
Tim returned Friday afternoon; a gala was scheduled for Saturday. Hearing about Ren Jifeng, he scoffed.“No need to collaborate. He’s annoying.”
Ashley agreed. They didn’t need to settle for Ren Jifeng.
Saturday afternoon, Ashley was preparing for the gala when her phone rang–Sam. She’d ignored her calls all week, expecting her to stop. Sam had still called two or three times, and Ashley ignored them all.
Sam, no longer as distraught, put down her phone. Her father had said to keep calling; her mother would eventually answer. She looked at Chase in his formal attire.“Daddy, you’re leaving for Aunt Wu so soon?”
