“My uncle said someone from Sterling Corporation contacted him about a collaboration.”
Chase was about to speak when Ashley continued, “I know you don’t want to owe me or my grandma anything, and you want to express your gratitude this way. But we didn’t visit your grandma because of you. Forget the project.”
If they collaborated with Sterling Corporation, the Mond and Holden families would definitely cause trouble. Even if he genuinely wanted to thank her and Amanda by giving the project to her uncle, Tanya would always mean more to him. If he changed his mind, the favor would turn sour, and the Jones family would bear the consequences. She couldn’t accept the project.
Ashley said coldly, “Don’t worry, after the divorce, we’ll go our separate ways. I won’t bother you again.” This was just another way for Chase to keep his distance. His help stemmed from a fear of her clinging to him. But she wouldn’t.
Chase was silent for a few seconds before saying, “Okay.”
Ashley didn’t speak to him again, calling Steve to refuse it. After the call, they went skiing.
The ski went smoothly without incident, but Ashley mostly interacted with Sheldon, Henry, and Sam. Unless necessary, she wouldn’t speak to Chase, and he didn’t initiate conversation much either.
Near noon, Chase said he had to leave. Ashley said calmly,“Okay.” Chase asked Sam, “Sam, you—”
“I want to go to the movies with Mommy!”
This wasn’t Ashley’s decision; Sheldon and Henry wanted to see a movie. They had planned it themselves.
Chase agreed.“Okay.”
He nodded at Ashley and left.
Ten minutes later, Ashley’s phone rang. It was her divorce lawyer, Daniel
“Mr. Sterling called. He said he’d prepare a new divorce agreement today. He’s adding two or three hundred–million–dollar properties to your share.”
Ashley showed no expression. He didn’t trust her and thought she’d still cling to him if she didn’t accept the project?
She said, “Okay, I understand. I have no objections. You take care of the rest.”
Chase left the ski resort to pick up Tanya. They were heading to a restaurant. Besides the Holdens and the Monds, there were others in the private room. It was packed.
Seeing Chase and Tanya arrive, Mark and Jay smiled. Tanya sat beside her aunt, Ruby.
Chase joined the others, chatting with Mr. Landon and Mr. Channing. Ruby leaned in to whisper to Tanya, “Tanya, we heard Chase was giving a Sterling Corporation project to the Jones family!” Tanya said, “I already know that.”
Ruby exclaimed, “I heard that during Emily’s injury, Chase had been interacting frequently with Ashley and even her family. Someone saw Chase having dinner with Amanda yesterday. Aren’t they rekindling their old flame?”
“They never had a flame,” Tanya calmly replied with a frown.“Chase is trying to make nice to Ashley and Amanda so they’d visit Emily. That way Emily wouldn’t use the surgery as leverage to

Ruby was surprised. Emily had already ousted them from Sterling Corporation. They had feared Emily would force a breakup as a condition for the surgery. Now that Chase and Tanya were still together, they thought Chase had persuaded Emily. It was indeed a clever move on his part. Relieved, Ruby asked, “So, the project is a thank–you gift to the Jones family?”
“Yes,” Tanya said.“A thank you, and a way to set boundaries.”
Ruby exclaimed, “Good for him! No wonder he runs his businesses SO well.” Ruby was delighted, but then frowned.“The Jones family already has the Eternal project, and is showing signs of recovery. If they get another Sterling Corporation project, won’t they fully
revive?”
Tanya’s expression turned cold.“They didn’t take the project.”
“They didn’t?” Ruby understood.“They’re letting Chase owe them a favor so Ashley could keep pestering him? What a cunning plan!”
With the divorce imminent, Ruby couldn’t allow this.“We can’t let them succeed-”
Tanya stayed calm.“Don’t worry. Chase will handle it.”
