The next day, Ashley finished breakfast and headed upstairs. Sam was on a video call with Chare Seeing Ashley, Sam chirped.“Mommy!”
“Hey, honey,” Ashley replied, opening her laptop.
On the other end, Chase asked, “What are you guys up to today?”
Sam, sprawled on his bed, beamed.“Mommy and I are going to see a movie this afternoon!” Ashley focused on the documents she’d been organizing the previous night After a moment, Sam came over with the phone.“Mommy, Daddy wants to talk to you? Ashley paused, took the phone, and looked at Chase. She didn’t want to see his face. She placed the phone on the desk, angling it so the camera pointed at the ceiling.“What’s the matter?” she asked.
“Sam’s been a handful lately,” Chase said, “Thanks for taking care of him.” Ashley didn’t respond, her gaze still fixed on her laptop. She tapped away at the keyboard, adding to the ideas she had left out before.“Anything else?” she asked.
“No,” Chase replied, then added, “Happy New Year.”
Ashley hummed in response. After hanging up, she gave the phone back to Sam. As noon approached, Ashley was about to take Sam out when her phone rang. It was Tim. She smiled, answering the call. Tim’s voice was low and tense.“Damn it, I ran into them again Ashley knew instantly who “them” were.
Before she could speak, Tim saw Chase and Tanya walking to him. They’d spotted him. Tim said, “They’re coming over. Gotta hang up.”
“Okay.”
As soon as she hung up, Chase and Tanya reached Tim.
Chase asked, “Mr. Reed, where are you going?”
Tim didn’t answer, offering a tight–lipped smile.“Mr. Sterling, Miss Mond, we’re not that close. Next time, you can pretend you don’t see me.”
Tanya laughed.“Mr. Reed, you’re funny.”
Tim smirked. As he was about to retort, Tanya noticed his suitcase.“Are you going on vacation too?”
Tim chuckled dryly.“Sorry, I won’t answer such a question from someone I don’t know well.” Without waiting for a response, he grabbed his luggage and left the VIP lounge. Once he was a safe distance away, he called Ashley again.“What are you doing?”
Ashley had just changed her clothes. She said, “I’m going to the movies.”
“Sounds fun,” he said.“By yourself?”
“With Sam.”

He’s just shameless!” Ashley remained unfazed.
Just then, Sam came, tugging at Ashley’s hand.“Mommy, I’m ready! Let’s go!”
“Okay, honey.”
Then, she said to Tim, “Don’t worry about them. Have fun.”
Tim sighed.“…Right.”
He added, “I’ll be back
soon. I’m
not leaving you alone with the company.”
Ashley smiled.“Okay.”
