Ashley noticed that even Chase showed surprise and admiration. Sam and Ethan jumped up. The race intensified. Jake took back the binoculars. It seemed that he didn’t see Chase. The race paused; Tanya was in first place. Ashley asked for the binoculars.
Jake
exclaimed, “You’re
captivated
too!
I
told you, everyone
loves her!”
Ashley smiled faintly. She wanted to call Chase. She knew he’d probably hang up. But she decided to do it anyway- one last time.
She called Chase, then watched him through the binoculars. Then, she saw him hang up and return his attention to Tanya. His eyes were only on Tanya.
Ashley took a deep breath, smiled, and returned Jake the binoculars. She stopped watching the race and Chase.
The race ended; Tanya won. Jake and his friends wanted autographs.
“But I hear Ella is from a rich family and she has a doctorate. Racing is just one of her hobbies. She doesn’t need fans and rarely gives autographs.”
“Yes, this is a private race, but there’s a VIP passage for the racers and we can’t get in.” They heard Tanya had left to celebrate. Lily called Ashley again. Refusing Jake’s request to stay and celebrate, Ashley insisted on taking him home.
Before leaving, Ashley went to the restroom. She bumped into someone and apologized simultaneously. It was Zark Green, another friend of Chase’s. He was even colder than usual.
