Chapter 4
I ignored the crowd and walked straight to the scene of the accident. As soon as Jayden saw me, he got even more worked up, shouting, “Jane, what did you do to your mom? What drove her to prefer jumping off a building rather than facing you?”
He continued, voice full of righteous anger. “You offered to take your mom to the hospital this morning, and I thought you were finally starting to change. But I never imagined you’d push her even harder, driving her to her death!“[]
“She’s your mother! How could you be so cruel? Are you even human?” Jayden’s tears and fury made his accusations even more powerful, and he didn’t miss a beat in making sure everyone knew he was on my mom’s side.
Even though I had already seen this side of him in my previous life, it still stung to witness the man I’d lived with for years be so thoroughly deceitful, planning my downfall all along. Despite preparing myself for this moment, I felt a lump form in my throat.
Before I could respond, Chloe stepped in, her voice filled with indignation. “Jane, even if you didn’t like your mom, how could you push her to the point of no return? She’s the one who gave you life! How could you be so heartless?”
Her words were sharp, and the crowd was completely swayed. They began to cheer for her moral stance, showering her with praise.
I, however, couldn’t help but find the whole situation laughable. I looked at them both and said, calmly, “Are you done with your performance yet?”
