Chapter 8 

I met Jayden because of my dad.] 

One day, my dad was inspecting a construction site and saw Jayden working under the scorching sun, drenched in sweat, hauling sand and bricks. 

My dad, puzzled, asked him why he was still working so hard when everyone else had taken a break from the heat.] 

That’s when he found out Jayden was from a rural area, and his parents were hospitalized, urgently needing money. 

So, he worked three jobs a day, without taking any breaks.] 

My dad, seeing how hardworking and filial he was, gave him money to cover his parents‘ medical bills. 

He also offered him a well paying job as his driver and kept him 

close. 

Over time, I saw Jayden a few times here and there. 

But we weren’t close 

Our relationship changed after an accident. 

That day, Jayden was driving my parents to a banquet. 

On the way, my mom’s blood sugar dropped, so my dad asked Jayden to stop and buy some candy. 

Jayden parked the car by the roadside. 

He had barely taken a few steps when an out–of–control truck barreled toward my parents.

My mom was critically injured and rushed to the hospital. 

In that moment, it felt like my world collapsed.] 

After going through the motions of planning my dad’s funeral, I spent every day crying and staying by my mom’s side.

He just stayed by my side, never leaving 

When I cried, he quietly handed me tissues. 

When I had stomach pain, he carefully brought me hot water and my medication. 

Whenever I was feeling depressed, he stood by me, taking care of everything.[]

Jayden carried me home, cared for me during the day, and then went to the hospital at night to look after my mom.]
