Chapter 4
I returned to the home I once shared with my brother.
I didn’t eat or drink, just lay in bed holding my daughter’s ashes.
The days and nights blurred together, and I felt like time stopped moving.
In the middle of my half–conscious state, Isaac barged in. [
He yanked me up from the bed, grabbing my collar, his face filled with rage as he demanded.
“Where is that little brat Lily?” ||
Behind him, Mary pretended to console him,
“Isaac, take it easy. Don’t scare the child.” [
Her fake concern only fueled Isaac’s anger further, his eyes sharp like poisoned knives: []
“Get the brat out here right now. If you keep hiding her, I’ll deal with you too.”
I trembled with fury. I
“My daughter is a brat? Then what are you? An old brute? You think you can threaten me? You don’t deserve-”
A sharp slap landed on my face, the pain so intense I collapsed onto the bed.
I clutched my cheek, staring in disbelief at the man in front of me, who looked like a vicious stranger.
Isaac stared at his hand for two seconds, shock flashing across his face before he tried to cover it up with anger.
“Sophie, you’re jealous of Mary and influenced Lily to cruelly kill Dobby. Now that the truth is out, you’re hiding the brat, thinking you can cover it up?”
“If I don’t discipline her today, she’ll become a vicious monster!”
I doubted my own ears.
Lily was bitten by a dog when she was three and has been afraid of dogs ever since.
Now she’s dead, and Isaac is accusing her of killing Mary’s dog?
Is there anything more ridiculous and absurd than this?
It’s laughable that this so–called father would believe Mary’s manipulations without a second thought and condemn his daughter as vicious.
He doesn’t deserve to be a father.
I started laughing, a wild, bitter laugh, pointing at the ashes of my daughter on the bed:
“Hahaha… Isaac, our daughter is right here. If you want to discipline her for the lies of that bitch, go ahead!”
My daughter is dead, and I want to see how Mary plans to slander her now.
I thought that revealing our daughter’s death, even if Isaac wouldn’t be heartbroken, might at least make him regret and
clear her name.
But reality slapped me hard.
Isaac didn’t believe me at all.
He raised his hand again and slapped me so hard that I tasted blood In my mouth. []
This time, his eyes were filled with nothing but anger, no hint of guilt.
“I think you’ve lost your mind! You’re full of lies, and no wonder the brat turned out the way she did–it’s all because she takes after your
“To cover up for her, you’d even make up such a ridiculous lie. You’re not fit to be a mother!”
His accusations stabbed me like knives.]
I didn’t care what he said about me. I
But when it came to my daughter, I couldn’t stand even a single word.
Like a furious mother beast who’s lost her cub, I lunged at Isaac, hitting him wildly.
“Tm not fit to be a mother? What nonsense! You, with your brain smaller than a chicken’s, have no right to say that. Even plgs are smarter than you.”
“You fell for Mary’s manipulations and sent our five year–old out in a storm to buy medicine for her dog. If that wasn’t
17” sending her to her death, what was it?”
“Only an idiot like you would call that teaching independence. Hah! If Independence is so important, why didn’t you tell your bitch girlfriend to be independent?”
“And now you’re accusing my daughter of killing that bitch’s dog? Only someone with a chicken brain like you would believe that.”
“If someone really needed to be hurt, why not get rid of both you
“Isaac, why wasn’t it you who died?”
