Chapter 9
When Isaac found the old woman’s new home, she was carrying a backpack and pushing her son’s wheelchair, preparing to leave.
Seeing Isaac blocking the door, the old woman’s expression shifted several times. []
In response to his questions, she elther refused to answer or claimed ignorance.
It wasn’t until Isaac mentioned that Lily had already passed away and asked how she could have seen her, that she began to show signs of panic.
Even then, she gritted her teeth, refusing to relent: “I don’t know if she’s dead or not, but I did see her that day.”
When he wasn’t around Mary, Isaac’s mind was sharp.
He glanced at the man in the wheelchair and spoke calmly:
“The White family owns a hospital. If you tell the truth, I’ll arrange for the doctors there to treat your son’s leg for free until he’s fully recovered.” [
He knew that a child was everything to a mother.
The old woman, who had been steadfast, hesitated for a few seconds before choosing to confess.
“I’m the one who killed the dog. I never saw your daughter. Mary instructed me to frame her. She didn’t explain why, and I was desperate for money to treat my son’s leg, so I agreed…”
All of Isaac’s suspicions were confirmed.
His expression froze, and guilt overwhelmed him.
Just then, the police arrived, led by Christian.
“Isaac, Sophic has reported Mary for Lily’s murder. You and the old woman are both involved, so you need to come with
s.” 0
Isaac’s mind went blank, and he instinctively defended Mary:
“Christian, there must be a mistake. Mary might be a bit spoiled, but she’s not capable of killing anyone.” [
Christian’s face showed a hint of disappointment. Isaac’s own daughter was dead, yet he was defending the person. responsible.
Having known Isaac for years, Christian had never realized how blinded he was by his affection.
“The driver who caused the accident has been apprehended. He confessed that Mary was behind it. We’ll discuss the details at the station.”
This statement shattered Isaac’s last shred of hope.
Even after the old woman’s confession, he could still deceive himself into thinking that Mary only framed Lily to teach
Sophile a lesson.
But Christian’s words wake him up completely, he could no longer le to himself.
At the police station.
The moment Mary, now handcuffed, saw Isaac, she threw herself into his arms, feigning distress.
“Isaac, they’re framing me. Please get the company’s lawyer to defend me
Isaac looked down at the woman sobbing in his arms.
The love he once felt for her vanished entirely, replaced only by hatred and disgust.
He thought that, faced with the evidence, Mary would show some remorse.
But all she cared about was finding a way to escape punishment.
Isaac realized how blind he had been to have ever loved such a venomous woman.
He pushed her away forcefully, his voice cold: []
“Get away from me!” []
Mary, shaken by his tone of rejection, broke down, her nerves finally snapping: [
“You’re telling me to get away? I stayed by your side for so many years without any title, and now you’re telling me to leave. Isaac, do you even have a heart?” ||
“Yes, I paid someone to hit Lily. Why? Because she’s that bitch Sophie’s child. We were supposed to be the ones getting married. If it weren’t for Sophie and Lily, we’d have been together long ago. They deserved to die!”
“I was so angry–how could I have hired such an idiot who wasn’t even sure if he killed the little brat? And that bitch Sophie hid the truth from me. Otherwise, why would I have had to find that garbage collecting old woman to test the waters, which ended up exposing me?” |
“Isaac, now that Lily is dead and Sophie is divorcing you, there’s no one standing in our way anymore.”
“Aren’t you happy..? Haha… I’m so happy..” []
Mary laughed maniacally, tears streaming down her face as she laughed like a lunatic.
Isaac watched the woman he once idolized as his perfect love, now appearing as a madwoman, and he closed his eyes in pain. Unable to accept it, he turned and fled the police station.
I stood beside Christian, clutching my stomach as I watched Isaac’s retreating figure, my face expressionless.
“You’re the bravest mother I’ve ever seen!”
Christian gave me a thumbs–up.
I knew why he said that.
When my daughter died in the storm trying to buy medicine for Mary’s dog, I immediately suspected Mary and reported it to Christian.
And on the way to the police station today, when I encountered the runaway truck driver, I courageously held him down, taking a stab wound to the stomach in the process. []
I shook my head: “No, I’m the most falled mother.” [
Not being able to protect my daughter was the greatest fallure of my life.
