Chapter 3
“Ahhhh…” I screamed in despair, tears streaming down my face as my heart felt like it was being stabbed hundreds of times. “Nora! My Nora!” I reached out, trying to grab the ashes floating in the air, but they slipped through my fingers. All I could do was watch them scatter.
“Isabelle Díaz! Have you gone mad? What are you screaming about? Aren’t you ashamed?” Steven frowned as he tried to pull me into his arms.
“Get away from me!” I yelled. “Get out! You’re a monster, Steven! Don’t touch me!” I struggled, biting down hard on Steven’s arm in my rage. His eyes widened in shock, but he didn’t pull away, just frowned in pain.[]
I bit with all my strength, tasting a hint of blood before collapsing to the ground, hoarsely gathering the ashes on the ground, muttering, “Nora… Nora…‘
“Where’s John? Why hasn’t he brought my daughter yet?” Steven asked as he picked up his phone to call John.
But it wasn’t John who answered.]
“Hello, this is the police. Are you Steven?” the officer asked.[]
“Yes, it’s me. Did John get into some kind of trouble?” Steven’s brow furrowed again.]
“We received a report from your wife stating that John had committed a series of violent acts against her and your daughter, resulting in your daughter’s death. After investigation, we have obtained concrete evidence and have arrested John…”
Before the officer could finish, Steven staggered backward several steps, falling to the ground in shock.]
“Impossible! That’s impossible!” He shook his head wildly, refusing to accept the truth.]
“My condolences. We also need you to come to the station for further investigation,” the officer sighed.].
Steven’s hand trembled, and his phone slipped from his grasp. He stared at me, eyes filled with disbelief. “Nora…. It’s really
Nora…”
He rushed over, trying to help me collect the ashes from the ground. “Get away!” I pushed Steven back forcefully, yelling in rage, “You’re a monster! Nora died because of you, and now you’ve smashed her urn, How can you call yourself her father?”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was really Nora’s urn, and I never imagined John would do such a thing…” Steven’s eyes reddened. “I just wanted Nora to be more obedient…”
“Wasn’t Nora obedient enough? Wasn’t she already a well–behaved child?” I shot back.]
