Chapter 10
I sat quietly on the sofa, listening to the sobs coming from Heidi’s room, feeling a deep, piercing pain.
It wasn’t for Russell.
It was for my daughter–she had to use her own death to earn back the love she had lost.
Russell stayed in Heidi’s room for three days, without eating or drinking.
When he finally emerged, he was unshaven, his eyes sunken, and his face swollen and red.
I wasn’t much better off.
When our eyes met, Russell broke down in tears.
He cautiously walked toward me, opening his arms.
It reminded me so much of when he proposed, his eyes brimming with tears as he waited for me to embrace him and promise to stay by his side for life.
He said he would treat me well and love me forever.
But his “forever” only lasted three years.
Time flies, and people change.
He fell out of love, and I lost my hope.
So, it was time to turn away.
With the divorce certificate in hand, we went together to visit Heidi.
Standing before her tombstone, Russell opened his mouth but couldn’t form
any
words.
Just when I thought he wouldn’t say anything, he softly whispered:
“Heidi, Daddy was wrong. Daddy is sorry.”

After My Drear

“Wait for me to make things right. I’ll be with you soon…”
Those familiar words stunned me.
He smiled bitterly and said:
“Tessa, I know I don’t have much time left. You were in such a hurry to divorce me–perhaps you didn’t want any connection to me, even after my death.”
I chuckled lightly and admitted:
“No, you were just a pawn in my revenge.”
Russell turned to look at me. After a long gaze, he nodded:
“Alright.”
In the end, the person I once deeply loved saw through the madness in my eyes.
His agreement to be my pawn had little to do with me.
It was because his love turned to hatred.
He couldn’t accept that Eleanor indirectly caused the death of his only biological child, nor
could he accept that she played with his feelings.
Ten days later, he and Eleanor held a wedding ceremony.
Eleanor, unaware that Russell had left with nothing, smugly sent me an invitation to show
off:
“See? He’s mine, and he always will be.”
Watching the man I had loved/for over ten years marry another woman through the surveillance footage, I felt nothing.
At the grand wedding banquet, the groom took a knife and viciously stabbed the bride in the abdomen–each thrust fatal.
By the time the guests realized what was happening, Eleanor’s pure white wedding dress

was soaked in blood, like a deadly flower in full bloom.
She clutched her stomach, fleeing in disbelief:
“Furry! Bite him!”
The dog bared its sharp teeth, ferociously attacking Russell.
But Russell didn’t seem to feel any pain.
He stabbed the dog.
As the dog collapsed in a pool of blood, whimpering its last breath, Russell, panting heavily,
cursed:
“Rotten beast, you deserve to die!”
Eleanor, cradling the dog’s body, screamed and questioned Russell:
“Why?”
Russell scoffed:
“It’s just a dog. It deserved to die.”
“Russell, didn’t you say Furry was your son? Why would you kill Furry and me?”
Russell’s knife plunged into Eleanor’s chest.
This time, he used all his strength.
He spoke softly:
“Does a beast deserve to be my son?”
“And the bastard in your belly–he doesn’t deserve it either.”
Fate’s boomerang had finally struck Eleanor.
In agony, blood gushed from her as she lay sprawled on the floor.

Her wedding dress, now a mixture of red and white, looked shockingly beautiful.
She collapsed, her head landing hard among the broken champagne glass shards.
The police arrived and took Russell away.
Eleanor survived after emergency surgery but fell into a vegetative state.
Three months later, her family couldn’t bear the medical costs and chose to end her
treatment.
Not long after Russell was sentenced to death, brain cancer took its toll on him.
On one of his rare lucid days, he pleaded to see me.
I refused without hesitation.
He actually had the delusion that I would take care of his body after his death.
He even coveted the empty grave next to my daughter’s.
That was reserved for me.
He didn’t deserve to be my daughter’s father!
