“Miss Summers, you just canceled…” the hospital receptionist begari.
My heart jumped into my throat. Alexander was standing right there, and I couldn’t let him discover anything about my pregnancy.
“I’m sorry, no need to check, thank you, I interrupted nervously.
The receptionist looked at me in confusion. Alexander’s eyes were boring into me, staring as if trying to peer into my soul.
I could feel his suspicion radiating off him.
“Thank you for your help,” I said quickly to the bewildered receptionist, forcing my face to remain
expressionless despite my racing heart.
Without another word, I turned and walked away.
Before I could take more than a few steps, Alexander caught up to me. His hand shot out and grabbed my
arm.
“What were you checking?” he demanded. “Are you checking on Claire?”
I immediately shook off his hand, sneering at his assumption.
“Why? Can’t I check on her?” I retorted.
Alexander’s lips pressed into a thin line.
“Still claiming you’re not here to watch the show?”
I suddenly smiled coldly.
“Yes, I’m here to watch the show,” I said with deliberate cruelty. “A show like this, I wish I could watch every
day!”
Alexander’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t pursue that topic.
“You said earlier that your mother was killed by Claire,” he said quietly. “What did you mean by that?”
I had no intention of explaining myself to him. I moved to step around him, but Alexander immediately blocked my path.
“Are you also blaming me?” he pressed. “Is that why you severed our mate bond?”
I frowned, confused by his conclusion.
“Get out of the way,” I said coldly, “A good Alpha doesn’t block the road.”
But Alexander remained planted in front of me.
“Since the day I agreed to our mate bond severance, I’ve been wondering what went wrong,” he said urgently.
“What caused me to push you further and further away, no matter what I tried to do?”

His eyes flickered with regret.
“Now I even regret why I gave up on you so easily back then…”
I didn’t want to listen to his lengthy speech.
“Alexander, we already severed our mate bond,” I stated flatly.
“Even with a severed mate bond, we can complete a new marking ceremony,” Alexander said urgently.

His grip tightened even more.

Just as I opened my mouth to curse him, a tall, imposing figure suddenly enveloped me from behind. Strong hands pushed Alexander away with decisive force, then gently pulled my arm, shielding me protectively.

Alexander’s eyes grew dangerously dark as his gaze first fell on Dominic’s protective grip on my hand, then moved up to lock onto Dominic’s face.
His eyes flashed with cold light, as if he wanted to pounce forward and tear Dominic apart.
People continued to flow through the hospital corridor around us, but the two towering Alpha figures faced each other like immovable mountains

Alexander’s eyes were glacial, the surging violence in his chest making him clench his fists until his knuckles turned white.
“Are you alright?” Dominic asked, completely ignoring Alexander’s threatening presence.
He turned to me with genuine concern, his eyes warm and protective.
“He didn’t bother you, did he?”
I quickly shook my head, still catching my breath.
I noticed passersby beginning to stare in our direction. Some were even holding up their mobile phones,

“Let’s go,” I said urgently, tugging on Dominic’s hand.
Alexander was currently the center of massive public scandal, and I didn’t want Dominic to be dragged into
this mess.
Dominic nodded immediately. He took my hand firmly and began walking toward the elevator.
I didn’t look back, but I could sense that Alexander’s face must be thunderous behind us
The elevator doors closed, finally separating us from that confrontation.
I immediately pulled my hand out of Dominic’s, feeling heat rise in my cheeks.
“Thanks to you arriving in time,” I said. “Otherwise, what happened just now…”
With the power disparity between an Alpha and a she–wolf, I wouldn’t have been able to break free from Alexander’s iron grip.
“In the future, when I have time, I’ll teach you some self–defense techniques,” Dominic said seriously
“Self–defense techniques?” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Isn’t that a bit exaggerated?”
Dominic’s smile didn’t reach his eyes.
“Not exaggerated at all. I think it’s absolutely necessary.”
Seeing how seriously he was taking this, I had to compromise.
“Alright…”
“Also,” Dominic continued, “Dr. Nathan Lewis just told me that Claire has been rescued and is temporarily cut
of danger…”
His eyebrow raised slightly.
“But the pup is gone…”
I couldn’t help but narrow my eyes.
“Was it intentional?” I asked.
Dominic nodded grimly. “Most likely.”
I pursed my lips, feeling anger rising in my heart. Perhaps because I was pregnant now myself, I felt especially protective of unborn life.
But honestly, if that pup had somehow survived Claire’s constant manipulation, that would have been truly miraculous.
“Claire wants to create a situation where there’s no evidence left,” I said, understanding her strategy.
In her twisted mind, now that the pup was gone, the only evidence that could threaten he no longer existed.
If she then used her silver tongue to defend herself and play the victim, she might even manipulate Alexander into changing his mind.

The elevator doors opened, snapping me back to reality.

Dominic and I stepped out, but we had barely made it a few feet when I heard a familiar voice call out
“Aria Summers?”
I looked in the direction of the voice and saw Richard and Elizabeth Reed standing not far away. Richard was carrying a food container.
“What are you doing here?” Richard demanded, his expression hostile.
His eyes flashed with rage as he ground his teeth.
“It’s all because of you that Claire’s pup is gone, you jinx! You just won’t be happy until you’ve completely disrupted our pack, will you?”
His accusation was so ridiculous that I actually laughed.
“Calling her “Claire‘ so protectively,” I retorted. “How touching.”
I let my voice drip with mock admiration.
“The pup is gone, and Alexander didn’t even say anything dramatic. Yet you, as her supposed father–in–law, are absolutely furious.”
I paused, letting the implication hang in the air.
“What’s wrong? Could it be that the pup was actually yours?”
“You-” Richard’s face turned purple with rage.
He raised his hand as if to strike me, his Alpha instincts overtaking his rational mind.
But I had anticipated his violent reaction and immediately stepped back several paces.
At the same time, Dominic moved with lightning speed. He stepped forward and grabbed Richard’s raised wrist, then harshly flung the older Alpha aside
His eyes flashed with protective fury.
Richard stumbled backward, completely losing his balance from the force of Dominic’s throw
With a heavy thump, he fell to the ground in an undignified heap.
