“What are you thinking about? So deeply lost in thought.” Dominic’s voice cut through my reverie as his hand closed the faucet, stopping the water that had been overflowing from the sink. 

His strong Alpha arm gently embraced my waist, pulling me back against his solid chest. “The water’s been running for ages. Are you trying to flood the hospital?” 

I blushed, realizing how lost I’d been in my concerns about Scarlett Moon’s return. “I wasn’t thinking about anything specific,” I denied quickly, my wolf whimpering softly within me at the half–truth. 

Dominic’s silver–gray eyes studied my face with that penetrating Alpha intuition that missed nothing. He could probably sense my unease, but thankfully he didn’t press the issue. 

“Well, since you’re back in the present,” he said with a slight smile, “what do you want for dinner? I could cook something special for my mate.” 

“Anything is fine,” I replied, trying to shake off my worries about his past connections. 

His eyes lit up with sudden enthusiasm. “How about we go to the Northern Territory Market together? I need to pick up some fresh ingredients.” 

I looked up at him with curiosity. Despite knowing him for months now, I’d never truly experienced a bustling werewolf market. “Really? I’d love that.” 

“Then it’s settled.” He linked my arm through his with obvious satisfaction. “Yes, my mate.” 

The possessive warmth in his voice made my wolf purr with contentment, temporarily pushing aside my concerns about returning actresses. 

The Northern Territory Market was a revelation./As evening approached, the marketplace buzzed with activity – werewolves and humans alike moving through the crowded stalls, their various scents creating a complex tapestry that made my enhanced senses tingle. 

Dominic kept his arm around me protectively, his powerful Alpha presence ensuring other wolves gave us respectful space as we navigated through the crowd. His commanding aura was unmistakable, causing vendors to straighten their postures and other shoppers to step aside deferentially. 

We stopped at a venison stall where the owner, a burly werewolf with graying hair, immediately recognized Dominic’s Alpha status. His face broke into a warm smile as he approached us. 

“Alpha Dominic! Haven’t seen you in weeks,” the vendor said with genuine pleasure. “Where have you been hiding?” 

His curious gaze shifted to me with respectful interest. “And who’s this lovely she–wolf?” 

Dominic’s chest puffed with obvious pride. “This is my mate, Aria. My Luna.” 

The vendor’s eyes widened with delight. “Your mate! Well, congratulations, Alpha! This calls for my finest

He began selecting premium venison pieces, his movements efficient and skilled. “For such a special occasion, I’ll give you my best discount.” 

I was surprised by Dominic’s familiarity with the vendor. Despite his Alpha King status, he clearly frequented 

this market regularly. 

“You come here often?” I asked, genuinely curious about this side of him. 

“Every week,” he confirmed with a slight grin. “Those elaborate meals I cooked for you? They all came from this market. My wolf takes pride in providing fresh ingredients for my mate.” 

The admission made my heart flutter. All those carefully prepared meals had involved him personally 

selecting each ingredient, choosing the best for me. 

As the venison was being weighed, a sudden commotion erupted nearby. Shouts of “You thief! Stealing again, I’ll beat you to death!” cut through the market’s ambient noise. 

My wolf’s senses immediately went on alert. I instinctively looked over to see a crowd surrounding someone, their angry voices rising dangerously. 

“Don’t run! Catch him!” someone yelled with vicious enthusiasm. 

Suddenly, a man crashed through the crowd, stumbling directly towards our stall. His clothes were torn, his face bloodied, and his movements erratic with desperation. 

As he got closer, my blood turned to ice. The face that looked up at me was achingly familiar, despite the 

bruises and confusion written across it. 

“James?” I whispered, my voice barely audible. 

It was my older brother, but not as I’d ever seen him. Gone was the proud, protective wolf who’d raised me after our parents‘ death. This man looked broken, defeated, his wolf’s scent betraying deep trauma and psychological damage. 

“James!” I cried out, moving instinctively toward him. 

Dominic immediately stepped in front of me, his Alpha instincts flaring protectively. “Wait by the venison stall,” he commanded, his voice carrying undeniable authority. 

Though every fiber of my being wanted to rush to my brother’s side, I trusted my Alpha mate’s judgment. I stepped back to the stall, watching as Dominic moved toward James with commanding presence. 

The angry crowd had caught up to James, quickly pinning him down on the market’s stone floor. Several werewolves were kicking and punching him, their wolves‘ aggressive scents filling the air. 

“Worthless thief!” one snarled, raising his fist for another blow. 

Just as the punch was about to land, Dominic intervened. His superior Alpha strength gripped the aggressor’s wrist with crushing force, stopping the attack mid–swing. 

The man turned in fury, demanding, “Who the hell are you? This thief stole from my stall!” 

But his aggressive posture immediately shifted when he sensed Dominic’s imposing Alpha presence. Recognition dawned in his eyes as he realized he was facing Shadow Pack authority. 

“Alpha,” he stammered, his earlier rage replaced by nervous respect. 

Dominic’s expression remained cold and commanding. “How much did he steal?”

“This should cover everything,” Dominic said curtly, his Alpha authority brooking no argument. 

The crowd began to disperse, muttering among themselves about the Alpha’s intervention. Word spread quickly through the market – the Alpha King had paid for the thief’s crimes. 

Once the area cleared, Dominic nudged James with his foot, his voice softer but still authoritative. “Can you 

get up?” 

James remained huddled on the ground, trembling violently. His eyes darted around frantically, as if he couldn’t focus on anything. His wolf’s scent was wrong withdrawn, damaged, barely present. 

“James?” I called to him, unable to stay back any longer. 

I rushed from the venison stall toward them, my pregnant wolf whimpering with distress at seeing my brother 

in this condition. 

Dominic quickly stepped to my side, his protective instincts flaring. “Be careful in this crowd,” he warned, his 

hand steadying me. 

But my focus was entirely on James. “What’s wrong with you? It’s me, Aria. Your sister.” 

Jamés recoiled from my voice, covering his head with trembling hands. He showed no recognition, no awareness of who I was. His wolf seemed completely absent, as if the connection between his human and 

wolf consciousness had been severed. 

“Something’s happened to him,” I whispered, my heart breaking at the sight. 

Dominic’s expression grew grim as he studied James’s condition. “This looks like severe psychological trauma. His wolf bond has been damaged.” 

His Alpha instincts were picking up what I was too emotionally overwhelmed to sense clearly. “We need to get him to Silvercrest Hospital immediately.” 

The admission process at Silvercrest Hospital was swift due to Dominic’s Alpha status. Within an hour, James was examined by the territory’s best werewolf psychiatrist. 

Dr. Helena Morrison emerged from the examination room looking troubled. Her professional demeanor couldn’t hide her concern as she approached us. 

“The results are concerning,” she began, her voice grave. “Your brother has suffered severe psychological 

trauma.” 

My heart sank, but I forced myself to listen to her diagnosis. 

“This type of damage typically occurs from intense shock or exposure to wolfsbane compounds,” she continued. “The trauma has affected both his human consciousness and his wolf’s responsiveness.” “Can he recover?” I asked desperately, my pregnant wolf whimpering with worry for my pack family. Dr. Morrison’s expression was carefully neutral. “Trauma affecting the wolf–human bond is extremely difficult to treat and prone to relapse.”

“Who made him like this?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Do you think it could be David Turner?” The Turner Pack had been destroyed, but David’s thirst for revenge might have survived. If he had targeted James to get back at me, the guilt would be unbearable.
