Chapter 176: The DNA Test Confrontation

(Aria’s POV)

Observing Mrs. Caroline Lewis’s fervent defense of her daughter, I felt a deep pang of heartache pierce through my chest. Perhaps it stemmed from having once been treated as Mrs. Lewis’s own during her episodes when she mistook me for her lost child. The maternal warmth she had shown me during those confused moments had touched something deep within my soul.

Mrs. Lewis cradled Lily protectively, her silver hair catching the harsh hospital lighting as she glared at Dominic with righteous fury. “You have no right to treat my daughter this way,” she declared, her voice trembling with emotion.

Dominic, despite his earlier brutality in handling Lily, addressed Mrs. Lewis with calm respect. His Alpha authority still radiated controlled fury, but he managed to keep his tone level.

“Mrs. Lewis, I understand your protective instincts,” he said, his silver–gray eyes never leaving her face. “But my mate nearly suffered a miscarriage because of your daughter’s actions.”

His powerful Alpha presence filled the hospital room, making the air thick with tension. I could feel waves of barely contained violence rolling off him in spite of his controlled demeanor.

“That’s impossible,” Mrs. Lewis protested weakly, her arms tightening around Lily’s trembling form. “Lily was trying to save Aria. She injured herself breaking down the door to help.”

Dominic’s expression turned ice–cold, his cedar scent shifting to something darker and more dangerous. “My mate’s version of events differs significantly from that story.”

Mrs. Lewis’s confused gaze shifted to me, her maternal instincts seeking the truth. Her brown eyes, so similar to Dr. Lewis’s, held a mixture of hope and fear.

“Aria, dear,” she said softly, her voice carrying the same gentle tone she had used when calling me her daughter. “Tell me what really happened. Did Lily try to help you?”

I met her gaze directly, my hand instinctively moving to my belly where our pup was growing. The memory of Lily’s vicious attack was still fresh, the terror still vivid in my mind.

“No, Mrs. Lewis,” I said firmly, my voice steady despite the pain this truth would cause her. “Lily did not try to save me. She deliberately tried to harm my pup.”

The words hung in the air like a death sentence. Mrs. Lewis’s face crumpled with disbelief, her wolf’s scent

spiking with distress.

“There must be some mistake,” she whispered, looking down at Lily’s tear–streaked face. “My daughter would

never-”

“I would never hurt anyone!” Lily interrupted, her voice rising with desperation. “I was trying to help! The door was stuck, and I heard screaming-”

Her wolf’s scent spiked with panic, the lie evident to anyone with enhanced senses. But Mrs. Lewis, overwhelmed by emotion and her protective instincts, seemed blind to the deception.

Dominic stepped forward, his imposing figure casting a shadow over the hospital bed. “There’s a simple way to resolve this situation,” he announced, his Alpha authority commanding everyone’s attention.

“What do you mean?” Dr. Lewis asked cautiously, his professional instincts clearly troubled by the conflicting

accounts.

“A DNA test,” Dominic stated with absolute certainty. “If Lily is truly your sister, I will drop this matter entirely

and offer my apologies.”

His silver–gray eyes flashed dangerously as he continued. “However, if she is not who she claims to be, then

we have a much more serious problem on our hands.”

The implications of his words were crystal clear. If Lily was an impostor, the consequences would be severe.

Lily immediately panicked, her emerald eyes wide with terror. She clung to Mrs. Lewis desperately, her wolf whimpering with fear.

“Mother, please,” she sobbed, her voice breaking. “Don’t let them do this to me. I’m your daughter. You know

I’m your daughter.”

Mrs. Lewis’s arms tightened around her protectively. “Of course you are, sweetheart. No one can take that

away from us.”

But Dr. Lewis stepped forward, his professional demeanor masking his inner conflict. “Actually, a DNA test

isn’t a bad idea,” he said carefully.

Lily’s head snapped up, her face a mask of betrayal. “Brother? You doubt me too?”

“It’s not about doubt,” Dr. Lewis explained, though his voice carried uncertainty. “It’s about silencing the

doubters once and for all. If we can prove definitively that you’re my sister, no one can question it again.”

His brown eyes met Dominic’s briefly, some unspoken understanding passing between them. “I believe you’re my sister, Lily. But the test will remove any shadow of doubt.”

Lily’s expression crumpled with hurt and rage. “You’re all bullying me,” she accused, her voice rising to a near shriek. “Even my own family doesn’t believe me.”

Tears streamed down her face as she looked around the room at each of us in turn. “Fine. If that’s how you

feel, then I don’t want this family anyway.”

Her wolf’s distress was evident in her elevated pheromones, the scent of fear and desperation filling the

room.

“I’d rather disown all of you than undergo that humiliating test,” she declared dramatically.

Then, with perfect timing, she swayed and collapsed back into Mrs. Lewis’s arms, her eyes rolling back as

she “fainted.”

The chaotic scene made me realize the DNA test might be called off to prevent further upsetting Mrs. Lewis.

Her mental health had improved dramatically since her daughter’s return, her wolf finally finding the peace it

had been denied for so many years.

But Dominic was far from finished. With swift, decisive action, he reached down and grabbed a handful of Lily’s auburn hair with his Alpha strength.

“Dominic!” Mrs. Lewis gasped in shock.

His intimidating presence filled the room as he positioned himself between Lily and the door, blocking any

potential escape route.

Lily’s eyes fluttered open at the sound of his voice. “What… what happened?” she asked weakly, though her

performance was less convincing now.

“You fainted, sweetheart, Mrs. Lewis said gently, stroking her hair. “Are you alright?”

“My head hurts, Lily complained, pressing her hand to her forehead. “And my shoulder is killing me.”

She tried to sit up, clearly intending to leave, but Dominic’s imposing figure blocked her path.

“Going somewhere?” he asked, his voice deceptively calm.

“I need to rest,” Lily said, though her emerald eyes darted nervously around the room. “I’m not feeling well.”

“I’m afraid that’s not possible,” Dominic replied, his Alpha authority radiating menace. “Not until we get those

test results.”

Mrs. Lewis’s face flushed with renewed anger, ‘Dominic Blackwood, this is enough!” she declared, her voice

shaking with emotion.

“My daughter needs rest and medical attention, not this… this harassment,” she continued, her maternal instincts flaring protectively. “She’s been through enough trauma for one day.”

Her wolf’s scent carried notes of desperation and fierce protectiveness. “Look at her. She’s exhausted and in pain. What kind of Alpha torments a young woman who’s already suffering?”

The accusation hung in the air between them. I could see the conflict in Dominic’s silver–gray eyes, his protective instincts for me warring with his respect for Mrs. Lewis.

Seeing the tension rise and Mrs. Lewis’s obvious distress, I felt compelled to intervene. My pregnant wolf needed peace, and my heart ached for the woman who had shown me such kindness.

“Dominic,” I said gently, my voice cutting through the hostile atmosphere. “Please don’t upset Mrs. Lewis any

further.”

‘She’s been through so much already,” I continued, my hand moving to my belly protectively. “For my sake,

replaced by the devoted mate I knew so well.

“Of course, my love,” he said, his voice becoming gentle and warm, “Whatever you wish.”
