Chapter 10 Putting Ophelia in Her Place
The Old Lockhart Mansion, belonging to the Lockhart family, was situated in a town on the outskirts of Serenovia City. The mansion practically occupied half the town and kept all its original structures intact.
Initially, developers wanted to buy the mansion, but negotiations fell through due to price disputes, Later, the mansion was repurposed as a tourist attraction because urban planning constraints. Its gates frequently appeared on various influencers‘ social media, gradually becoming a popular check–in spot.
Cecilia and Genevieve walked through the gates of the Old Lockhart Mansion. The vast estate, with its labyrinthine corridors and expansive courtyards, exuded an aura of grandeur and magnificence.
At this moment, the only elder of the Lockhart family, Ophelia, was sitting in the central position of the main hall, with Vincent’s family seated on either side.
Vincent had an independent villa in the city, but to maintain the appearance of a dutiful son, his family had moved back to the Old Lockhart Mansion over the years.
Cecilia calmly greeted, “Grandma.”
“I only called for you. Why did you bring her along?” Ophelia never showed Cecilia a kind face and immediately criticized her, “So, are you afraid I’ll bully you?”
heard you asked Cecilla to come to the mansion. I thought it had been a while since I last saw you, so I wanted to visit,” Genevieve quickly explained.
“Genevieve, you talk a good game about sincerity, but I don’t see you bringing any gifts! Vivienne said sarcastically.
Cecilia glanced at Vivienne. Previously, when she helped Vivienne teach Juliana a lesson, she was able to go along with the steps. Now, trying to win favor in front of Ophelia, her attitude had completely changed.
“Who said we didn’t bring a gift for Grandma?” Cecilia retorted.
“What gift did you bring? Show it! Vivienne demanded aggressively.
Genevieve felt a bit embarrassed, Being questioned like this by Vivienne made her feel humiliated. She signaled Cecilia to endure it. They always had to swallow their pride.
Ophelia directly said, “Who cares about her stuff!”
Cecilia pressed her lips together and said bluntly, “Did you call me back for something? If not, I’ll just leave to avoid making you unhappy. She pulled Genevieve, ready to leave.
“Stop!” Ophelia shouted angrily, “Did I give you permission to leave? How can you be so ill–mannered? I don’t know how Genevieve raised you!”
Ophelia was clearly mocking Genevieve’s poor background.
Cecilia remembered many times when Genevieve returned from the Old Lockhart Mansion with red eyes. Genevieve had always chosen to endure the humiliation to avoid troubling Theodore and to maintain peace at home. But in fact, this only encouraged Ophelia to belittle and mock Genevieve even more!
Ophelia continued her sarcasm, “So, now that you’ve inherited the family estate, you don’t even respect me anymore, is that it?”
“Ophelia, don’t forget, you married

family,” Cecilia said mercilessly. “The Lockhart family estate was never yours to begin

“How dare you!” Vincent was also furious at this point. “Cecilia, how dare you curse your grandma!”
“Vincent, what are you talking about? Cecilia looked innocent. “Cog it he that you have such thoughts, which is why you think
that way?!”
“What are you babbling about! Vincent’s face turned ugly.
Cecilia sneered, “I came back because you said there was somethingportant. If you just wanted to scold me, sorry, I won’t stay for
that!”
Her cold words sent a shiver down everyone’s spine.
Cecilia had become articulate and exuded a strong presence. She stared directly at Ophelia, without any fear. This left Genevieve speechless with shock..
A few days ago, Cecilia had slapped Juliana, and today she was speaking to Ophelia with such force. Genevieve was beginning to wonder if Cecilia was still her daughter. But she had to admit, this change made Genevieve feel quite comfortable. She decided to let Cecilia continue. At worst, they could just cut ties with these people,
Now Genevieve understood that no matter how much she tried to please them, these people never considered them family.
*You…” Ophelia was so flustered by Cecilia’s retorts that she couldn’t form a complete sentence. She shouted angrily, “Get out!”
Cecilia’s eyes narrowed, “Ophelia, is it appropriate for you to tell us to get out? Just a reminder, the name on the property deed of the Old Lockhart Mansion is Theodore’s. The place you’re living in is ours.”
“Cecilia!”
“Of course, I have no intention of asking you to leave.”
She was determined to leave Ophelia with no dignity at all.
Ophelia couldn’t take it anymore and pointed at Cecilia, shouting. “Cecilia, are you trying to rebel?”
“I’m just stating the facts, not
trying t to offend you. At your age, you should understand many things.”
Ophelia was left speechless by Cecilia’s words.
