Chapter 16
“Ashley’s POV”
Nolan was on the floor for a moment, and a short while after, he was pushing himself back up. The blow from Xavier has sent him flying, but it now seemed that it was his pride that took a bigger hit.
He got to his feet, brushed off the scrubs of dirt from his jacket and walked toward us, his face red with anger.
“I told you to step back, Nolan, Xavier said to him, taking a step forward. Xavier’s voice was low and firm, and filled with authority. “You don’t have to make this worse for yourself, Nolai
Nolan, on the other hand, wasn’t ready to hack down, so he continued walking toward us and then stopped, glaring at me with anger in his eyes as a hint of desperation.
“You think you can just hide it from me?” he spat. He moved closer and clenched his fist, preparing for the worst.
1 pushed my way forward, coming out of Xavier’s shadow for a moment. “Enough, Nolan!” I yelled. “I already told is no child. You’re delusional and no one has stolen anything from you.”
you. there
He scoffed and lowered his eyes. “What do you think of me, Ashley?” He asked with venom in his voice. “I know you were pregnant before you left… I saw the doctor’s report. You know what? I’m going to sue you for this. Taking my child and giving it to someone else.” He said, pointing his finger maliciously at me.
Xavier walked past me and was headed towards Nolan again, but I wrapped my hand around his arm and pulled him back. This was my fight and he had done his part and I was grateful for that.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about, Nolan,” I continued, my hand still wrapped around Xavier’s. “You don’t get to walk back into my life and make demands, I don’t owe you anything and as a matter of fact, you owe me.”
“I have to every fuvking right!” He yelled back at me. “I have every right to make demands. That’s my child too, as much as it’s yours, it’s mine as well, you can’t just-
“I lost the child!” I cut I. Sharply, “I lost the child five years ago and I already told you that. That night when you sent men after me, to kill me. It was that night, Nolan. I’m sure you remember.”
His lips curved into a frown and he moved backward, as though he was shocked by what I just said. I could see regret in his eyes but there was something else, but I didn’t have the patience to figure out what that was, I didn’t care.
“That’s not true, Ashley. I didn’t-”
“Well, it is,” I whispered.
“Things are different now, Nolan. I’m not the person you used to order around. You should think carefully before you decide to cross me. The night of the attack came rushing through my mind, and I felt a bitterness right on the tip of my
tongue.
Nolan tried to take another step forward, but Xavier wasn’t having any of it. He stepped in front of me, shielding me from him. “That’s enough, Xavier said. “You heard her, now back off, respectfully.”
Nolan smiled weirdly and stepped backward. Xavier took my hand and rubbed it gently. “We can go now.” He said softly. I nodded and turned around, but just as we did, Nolan called out
“What are you two even?” His voice echoed through the hall loudly. I turned around to look at him as did Xavier.
“She’s my wife, my mate,” Xavier said firmly, his cool voice echoing through the hall which was silent.
A collective gasp
echoed through the room, and I could see the surprise in everyone’s eyes. The shock on their faces was

visible. They probably weren’t expecting that piece of information. hut even though we both knew that that was far from the truth, we weren’t going to pass on the opportunity to stir up some people.
We turned around and began walking towards the exit, but Nola wasn’t done.
“You think you can just show up, do as you please, and walk away? Who do you think you are?” He asked with anger.
“We already did.” Xavier replied calmly without turning to look at him. His grip around my hand tightened and he smiled at me. “If you are smart, Alpha Nolan, you’ll leave us be, before things get worse for you.”
“This isn’t over.” Nolan whispered, without even looking at him. knew exactly what look was on his face.
I could feel my heart racing as we walked through the onlookers, whispers from side to side, and fear in the eyes of some. The adrenaline was rushing through my blood and all I wanted was to leave as soon as possible.
We walked out of the hall finally and into the open. The night was much colder now, and darker and I could see the huge trees moving slowly to the rhythm of the wind.
“Are you okay?” Xavier asked softly, looking down at me. I turned to face him and smiled.
“Wife?” I asked with a smile on my face. He shrugged and rolled his eyes. “Let them wallow in confusion for a while, they have no idea what’s coming.” He replied coolly
“Shall we?” he asked, gesturing towards the car with his hand. I nodded and we both walked towards the car. The music had resumed playing inside the hall and I could hear the faint sound coming out from there.
We got
ot into the car but just then we saw someone walking towards the car, it was Aaron.
“Alpha.” He called out as he got closer. Xavier came down Instantly and walked towards him with concern on his face.
“What’s the problem?” He asked, covering the ground to get to Aaron.
“Oh, it’s nothing.” Aaron said, panting slightly.
“I just wanted to apologize for what happened inside the hall just now. It wasn’t nice how Alpha Nolan approached you and some of the things he said weren’t either. I’m not here to take sides, I just thought it’d be nice to apologize for what happened.”
“It’s fine.” Xavier responded with a smile, tapping Aaron lightly on his shoulder.
And also, congratulations. On your marriage. I thought I’d say that as
as well.”
Xavier smiled even more and I could tell that he was amused that people still didn’t notice the resemblance. He thanked Aaron and got back into the car. I watched as he walked back into the hall with deliberate and calculated steps,
“I like him,” I said to Xavier, smiling as I watched Aaron disappear into the large building.
“Who doesn’t.” He replied, starting the engine. He placed his hand on the steering wheel but didn’t move the car.
“Good night hul?” He asked softly.
1 turned my head slowly to face him and then a small satisfying smile played on my lips.
“Perfect”
