“Don’t!” I yelled, cutting Xander off before he could complete what he hund to say. I was panting furiously and I could also feel the eyes of almost everyone inside the hall, on me. I took a deep breath and ran my fingers through my hair, wondering why I had allowed my conversation with them to escalate to the point where I was hit.
“Alpha Nolan, you should leave,” Xander said quietly, his eyes dating through the hall and then back on me. I pondered on his words and thought it was the right thing to do. The whole siiation was already a mess and there was very little that could be done to restore the atmosphere to what it was before.
I looked around the hall and saw that everyone still had their eyes fixed on me, staring and whispering,
“What are you looking at?” I yelled, my voice echoing through the hall like a wounded wolf, which of course I was. They all scampered away, and soon after the music came back on, but I could still hear the whispers,
I lifted my head up and my eyes fell on Zoe who was staring at the. I frowned slightly, annoyed that she had watched everything and was now probably thinking that I was weak, and an embarrassment. But instead of rushing towards her like I would normally do, I turned around and walked in the opposite direction.
“I thought you were leaving?” Xander asked, rushing towards me. I ignored him and continued walking, and after a short walk, we got to the bar where everything started and I sat down, ordering exactly what I ordered before.
“Nolan-”
“Are you going to be a bother or a companion?, you’re my Beta after all, you should be cheering me up after that show of embarrassment,” I said, turning to him with a visible frown on my face. He took a step backward and then a deep breath.
“I just thought it would be best for you to leave, it is humiliating enough as it is now.” He said in a low whisper.
“And don’t you think I know that?” I snapped, my anger bubbling from within.
He wasn’t scared of me, so his reaction was pretty plain. “You’re not thinking, and I understand. But you shouldn’t be here.
His voice was getting annoying by the second, and though I still wanted him to be there with me, I just wanted him to shut the fuck up.
And almost as though he could hear my thoughts, he sat down beside me and folded his arms. I smiled wryly and drank from the glass that was now in front of me. The liquid was the same, but slightly hotter than before.
I turned my head to face Xander and he was looking towards the other end of the hall, I followed his eyes and saw that he was looking at Zoe.
“She’s not comfortable,” Xander said under his breath as if he wanted to annoy me, I winced and looked away, gulping down the contents from in glass.
“You can drive her home if you want since you’re so concerned about her.”
I felt terrible abait everything. Finding out that Ashley was alive and even worse, married to the person I hated the most in my life. Everything that Xavier did, every achievement of his, seemed like it was aimed to make me feel less about myself.
His pack was huge and he was respected and worshiped, and I couldn’t see the reason why. And now he was with Ashley, and possibly with my child also. But above everything. I wasn’t this petty. I was upset, but I shouldn’t be acting the way I am acting now.

Chapter 17
Xander still had his eyes on me, and lus gaze was getting judgmental now.
“Alright,” I said in defeat, 1 slammed the glass on the counter, spling what was left in it, and then got up. Xander followed me from behind and I walked back to where Zoe was.
I could see the look in her eyes, she was stuck between whether the should walk away or wait until I got to where she was. But before she could decide on anything, I did and grabbed her and before she could say anything.
“We’re leaving.” I said quietly, and together, we walked out of the building. She wriggled free and increased her pace towards the car, leaving me and Xander behind.
“What are you going to do?” Xander asked once we were a few fet away from the car. I smiled, but then it turned to a chuckle and before I knew it, I was laughing.
“You’re losing it.” Xander said softly, with a frown.
I brushed through my hair with my fingers and sighed. “Honestly, I don’t know,” I replied to his question.
He didn’t respond. Instead, I noticed a look of guilt on his face.
“What?”
He turned to me and sighed. “Look, Alpha Nolan. I didn’t know that she was alive. And I know that you’re going to say that I should forget about it and that it wasn’t my fault, but I just want to let you know that if I had known that she was in the woods and would survive, I probably wouldn’t have reported back to you until she was found.”
Xander
“I’m serious, Nolan.” He said firmly. “I’m sorry. He apologized. looked around and saw Zoe through the glass, staring at me impatiently.
“I understand,” I said, turning my attention back to Xander.
“But tell me one thing.” He said, raising his eyes to look at me..
“Ashley said something about her being attacked that night, and I remember how terrible it was in the woods that night, there was so much blood and shit, that’s why I thought no one could have survived that. I know about the rogues, but…”
“But what?” I cut in, knowing exactly what I was about to ask.
“I already know the answer to that question, Nolan.” He said softly.
I nodded slowly, observing him for a while before heading towards the car. I got into the car and watched as he shifted into his wolf form and disappeared into the woods.
The car was silent and I had the intention to keep it like that. I avoided Zoe’s eyes and started the engine. The night was already too far gone as it was, and I didn’t want any more of it.
