Chapter 2

“Ashley’s POV

Nolan growled again, this time deadlier.

“You need an explanation and I’ll give you! You drugged me, slept with me, took my money but I never for once punished you for it! I tried my best to be cool with this marriage even after you made Zoe leave me and go out of the pack!”

He tricked with rage as he pointed a finger at me. “All I ever asked for was a child. But you couldn’t even give me that! You didn’t hold your side of the bargain, so why should I holl mine! You’re only a barren woman who brought nothing but bad luck to me!”

“Call it whatever you can I don’t care. Zoe is back now, even after all your dirty tricks. And now, you can’t even let me spend Cenough time with her?”

His words drove a dagger deep into my already shattered heart and it left a large scar there. My lips quivered as all rational thoughts left me.

“You really still think I spiked your drink back then?” I yelled in frustration.

“How dare you yell at the Alpha, Ashley!!” Zoe chided as she lunged at me.

I saw her attack and quickly ducked, swiping my hand at her head and grabbing a handful of her hair.

“How shameless can you get? How dare you act like you’re some saint. How about I let Nolan know who exactly spiked his drink three years ago? Or do you think I don’t know?”

Her expression faltered as fear skirted across her face. “Nolan, she’s hurting me!” She cried.

Immediately, Nolan yanked my arms and pinned me against his large mahogany Desk, glowering at me with disdain.

“How dare you lay your filthy hands on the mother of my pup? Do you have a death wish? Do you want to be fired?” He croaked.

My anger disappeared, replaced by horror, “What did you just say? Mother of your pups? Zoe is pregnant for you. Since when—” my voice broke off as emotions gnawed at me.

I pushed back the tears forcefully. No, I couldn’t let them see me hurt again. I swallowed hard at my throat and brought my gaze to him.

“Since when have you been sleeping with her!? Since she came back to the pack five months ago?

I exhaled deeply rubbing my palm down my face. “Oh, moon goddess! And here Iwas, acting like a loyal wife and Luna to you while you were banging her!”

He shrugged indifferently and released his grip on me 1 don’t know, Stuff just happened when we were both drunk. It was not planned but why do I even have to explain myself to you? You should be happy for me and even thank her. She did what you couldn’t do!”

His words were a huge slap to my face and my hands instinctive flew to my face as though I felt the pain. My legs had gone weak so I gripped the lid of the desk for support.

“I’m so sorry, Ashley. I was only trying to help you. It’s not like it my fault that you’re barren!”

My face reddened as I squeezed the pregnancy test report into a ball and lunged at her again. This time, I was quicker and immediately landed a thundering slap on her face.

She shrieked in horror as she staggered and Nolan immediately caught her in his arms, cradling her face tenderly.

He turned his heated gaze on me. “Now, apologize to her immediately! Kneel!” He ordered.

My lips twitched into a shrewd line as my gaze darkened. I was done listening to him. I was done being the submissive and

naive wife.

“I won’t! How can you ask the Luna of Sacred Moon Pack to knee to a subject!” I gritted out angrily.

“You’re a Luna?” He snorted a laugh as his gaze turned stone cold “How about she replacing you then? Apologize now or I

you of your Luna duties and divorce you!”

His tone was flat and final, brooking no further argument and the constraints broke as tears spiralled down my face.

“You want to divorce me for my sister?”

He snaked his hand through his hair as an indecipherable expression crossed his features. If I didn’t know better, I would have said he looked as if he was sorry.

“I don’t know, Ashley! I’m an Alpha and I have to think about the future of the pack. Zoe is pregnant with my pup while you’re just a Luna with nothing to your name. You can’t keep ruling while the mother of the future Alpha is a subject!

Air snapped out of my gut and my whole body started trembling uncontrollably. No! This wasn’t happening! I thought he was going to make Zoe apologize and we could settle this amicably.

“No!” I yelled. “You can’t just toss me aside!”

“Deal with your loss, Ashley!” Zoe spat. “He already tossed you asirle from the moment he found out I was pregnant!” I clenched my jaw and faced Nolan. “Don’t be deceived by my sister. She’s only lying!”

He threw a paper at me and my mind emptied when I realized was a pregnancy test report. Zoe was pregnant for my husband.

He rounded his desk and brought out a manilla envelope from the drawer, then slammed it on the desk before me.

“My signature is on it already, just sign it and we’ll be legally divorced!”

Wait! What? He had already signed it even before I came? He must have been contemplating whether to divorce me all these weeks. They’ve had everything settled and in the end, I was the only one getting hurt again.

“Sign here and don’t waste my time.” He ordered.

I wiped the tears clouding my eyes as I picked up the pen. There was no need to sulking about this or begging him anymore. He wanted me out and I’ll leave. But with my dignity intact.

I placed my hands on my stomach. “I’m sorry, baby!” I mumbled quietly.

My hands trembled slightly as I drew my signature, maintaining an ever–placid expression. When I met his gaze again, his eyes were clouded with confusion.

His lips quivered but he didn’t say a word. He looked as though he didn’t expect the to sign the paper. He must have expected me to create a fuss and maybe beg him to withdraw hi decision

I raised my chin. “Now, let’s get the rejection over and done with

He looked taken aback as he suddenly grabbed my wrist but I quir kly yanked it off.

“What’s your deal?” He asked.

I frowned. “My deal? You wanted me gone and I’m only helping you or you don’t want to break the mate bond?”

Anger flashed in his eyes and all of a sudden, he pushed me against the wall, his breath searing my skin.

“Ashley Robert!” I corrected him. “I signed the divorce papers, I no longer bear your last name!”

He looked pissed “1, Nolan Cross reject you, Ashley Robert as my mate and Luna!”

Ashley Robert, accept your rejection,” I answered, as quickly as possible, and then I pushed him away.

I didn’t maintain eye contact with him but I knew he was staring at me. He was shocked that I didn’t plead for one more consideration. He was checking to see if I was in pain from the breaking of the matebond but I held all the pain in, biting hard on my lips.

I could see Zoe beaming with a smile as she pulled Nolan to her sides and looped her hands around his neck, whispering something I couldn’t make sense of

Even though I thought it wouldn’t affect me now that the mate bond had been severed, seeing them acting that way was so painful. I headed towards the door but suddenly tripped and would have landed flat on my butt if not for the strong arms that wrapped around my waist instantly.

I knew it was Nolan. His arms still felt so familiar and so warm had to fight the urge to ease into his arms and ery my heart

I recoiled from his arms instantly, angry that I still couldn’t resist his touch upon that simple contact. I glanced at him and for a split second, I thought I glimpsed worry in his eyes.

He was worried about me? How dare he try to confuse me? If he really wanted me, Zoe wouldn’t have manipulated him to file a divorce paper and reject me as his mate. If I collapsed and died, why should he care about it?

He walked quickly to the same desk and slipped something out. Walking quickly to meet me as I opened the door.

“You can take care of yourself with this,” he said, refusing to look me in the eye as he handed me a check. “You should look for another job!”
