Are you sure alsout–1 began, but stopped when I realized the he had fallen asleep. We were now sitting, watching the stars we emptied the foule of wine, and she had probably drank as much as the could.

Let’s get you to bed. I said, lifting her head up so I could carry her up in my arms I paused for a moment as I looked at her Tace. She was rich better now, a lot better than what she looked like when she first came here.
I walked past the door and entered the rooms which was much varmer, carrying her past the far–out walls and into the hallway. She stirred slightly as the floorboards creaked under my feet, but that didn’t wake her up
We got to the room and I placed her gently on the bed, covering her with the sheets as soon as I did. With sleepy eyes, she adjusted herself in the bed but then I noticed something. She had a slight frown on her face, a look of worry

I leaned in and pressed a soft kiss on her head, hoping that it would somehow calm her down.
“Goodnight, little sister,” I muttered softly and then walked out of the room, shutting the door behind me. I lowered my head and walked through the hallway, headed for my room, but just then I heard a noise that almost startled me
“Alpha” Laura’s voice echoed through the hall as soon as I turned around. She was shocked, but she also did all she could to Jower her voice.
“Laura.” I said with relief. My brows furrowed in confusion and straightened up.
“What are you… is there a problem?” I asked, not wanting to sound suspicious, even though I was. She moved backward and took a deep breath, steadying herself. She was definitely frightened, but she was trying not to show it.
“I’m sorry, I just needed to check on, Brian, I thought I heard a noise coming from his room, it was you, after all.” She explained.
“Oh,” I murmured, keeping my eyes on her. It was the first time that we would be face to face with each other, and the first time that we were alone, together.
I hadn’t realized that I had been staring for so long and I could see her already getting nervous. Her eyes were lowered and she awkwardly brushed a strand of hair from her face.
“I should probably get back to sleep, I have a long day tomorrow She said, turning around as fast as she could.
“Laura?” I called out, my voice stopping her before she could take another step.
“Y. yes, Alpha Xavier?” She muttered, turning around to meet my eyes. We stood there for a moment, staring at each other, and for the first time, I noticed the colors of her eyes.
They were light gold, matching her long blond hair.
“Alpha?” She asked again, her voice pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Thank you.” I cut in sharply.

She smiled shyly and slightly bowed her head and without saying anything, she turned around and walked off.

Chapter 21
I chuckled softly and walked back to my room. Everything about tonight had a weird vibe about it, and even though I couldn’t tell exactly what it was, I liked the way it made me feel.

1 got on the bed and shut my eyes, hoping to get some rest and recharge for what was going a long couple of months ahead, but just then, my phone echoed in vibration, I quickly grabbed off the table and answered it, without bothering to know who it was.
“Oh, I didn’t think you’d answer.” A strange but familiar voice echoed from the other end of the call.”

beneath the call.
“Who am I-
“It’s Zoe,” she cut in suddenly, Interrupting my question with a straight–up answer. I frowned slightly, annoyed at the fact that someone I didn’t know and who wasn’t in front of me would cut me off, mid–sentence.
“Do you not value your life?” I asked sternly, but she didn’t seem affected by what I said or how I sounded, Instead, she giggled even more.
“Come on, Xavier. It’s me, Zoe. Nolan’s mate,” She explained. I sighed deeply and got out of the bed. I was still mad, but I also wanted to know why she was calling and how she got this number.
“I know you have a lot of questions, but can you just not ask any You know me and I know you, I just wanted to talk about what happened tonight.”
“What do you want to talk about, Zoe?” I asked softly, surprising even my own self.
I knew her from long ago and knew that she had her eyes on me before she got together with Nolan, and it wasn’t until Ashley explained everything to me that I realized that she wasn’t far off from all that had happened.
“I just wanted to ask you why you’d have to stoop so low for someone like that, and by that, I mean Ashley.” She said. I chuckled softly, still amused by how easy it was for everyone to believe what I said about being married to Ashley.
“I mean, I gave you the signals to let you know that I was available. All those years of waiting and finally getting tired, only for you to do that..”
I rolled my eyes and was now getting tired of her yapping.
“What do you really want, Zoe?” I asked her again, this time in a serious tone.
She cleared her throat and I heard her take a deep breath.
“I want us to talk, it was nice seeing you today and I’d like it if we met,”
“Well, Zoe,” I began. “Don’t you think my low–life wife wouldn’t want that? and what would your husband who couldn’t stand a blow think?” I asked sarcastically.
She scoffed and I could almost guess that she had that annoying smile on her face.
“I’ll send you the address, the only person you have to worry about, is me.” She said and ended the call before I could say anything else.
