Chapter 38
*Nolan’s POV*
I got into the car and turned in the engine, but just as I lifted my head, I saw her entering the garage as well. She was headed for her car, or so I thought. I rested my chin on the steering wheel and watched her, without any proper reason.
She stood there, almost like she was waiting for someone. She wasn’t comfortable and it was clear to see, she brought her hand to her face to check the time, before looking around impatiently.
“What are you doing, Lisa?” I muttered under my breath, as I continued watching her. Maybe she would have asked me that same question if she knew that I was watching her.
I took a deep breath and threw my head back, trying to stop myself from what I was going to do, but I needed it. I needed some sort of distraction.
“Shit,” I said softly, opening my door. I got out of the car but stayed in one spot.
“Lisa,” I called her, my voice echoing through the garage. She turned around quickly and our eyes met: I waved slowly and let out a small smile, something that had become a luxury considering my present predicament.
She smiled back at me and remained in one spot. I felt slightly embarrassed, but then I figured that she probably didn’t think I was asking her to come. I took another deep breath, jumped into my car and pressed the horn. She flinched and turned to look in my direction.
walked to the front and waved again, and then she understood what I meant. She walked slowly towards the car and stopped when we got to where I was.
“Sir?” She asked, curious about what was going on. I was too tired to say anything, so I gestured with my head for her to get in. She hesitated but then got in. I didn’t know why I was doing this, but maybe I just wanted to think that I had to, at least to maintain my sanity.
I started the engine and drove out of the garage into the busy streets. I drove for a few minutes and I noticed that she had a baffled look on her face.
“I pushed the time forward, figured I couldn’t wait until what was initially planned,” I said, my voice cutting through the silence.
She nodded awkwardly and held her bag closer to herself. “It seemed like you were waiting for someone back there,” I said, taking a quick glance at her.
“Oh.. yes.” She said sharply, turning to look at me monetarily.
“Your boyfriend?” I asked, not knowing exactly why.
“Oh, no.. of course not.” She cut in quickly, chuckling nervously as though I asked her something forbidden. I smiled wryly and kept my eyes on the road, my mind blank. I tried to think about Zoe, but I couldn’t. It felt like I had momentarily pushed her out of my mind until all of this had gone away.
“Are you okay?” She asked softly, turning to look at me again and this time, she kept her eyes on me for a couple of seconds. I glanced at her and saw that she was sitting properly now, and had obviously gotten comfortable over time.
“Why do you ask?” I replied, tightening my grip around the steering wheel. It wasn’t often that I was asked that question, probably because I always seemed to be in control.
“I don’t know, maybe because you aren’t usually spontaneous, you are kind of different today.” She said, sounding honest. I chuckled softly and nodded.

“Good observation, really good. But I am okay,” I said to her. “I think I should have always been like this, I added
She squinted her eyes and smiled. “And why is that?”
“I only got to know that we have someone like you in the company, someone who probably knows more than those in charge. I wouldn’t have known if this hadn’t happened. So I probably should have always been spontaneous, maybe all of this wouldn’t have happened.” I caught myself explaining.
She was silent, her head lowered.
“Maybe she was trying to be smart, I don’t think she wanted to hurt the company.” She said, and I knew that she was referring to Zoe.
I frowned slightly and took another turn. “We’re here,” I said softly, slowing down to park. I stopped the car and turned to
her.
“Zoe is smart and maybe you are right, maybe it wasn’t her plan to hurt the company and the pack. But if you were in charge of production, would you make the same mistakes?” I asked her.
“I… I don’t understand.” She stuttered.
“She wasn’t thinking, Lisa. That’s my point. I need thinkers around me and thankfully you are a thinker.” I said firmly. I got out of the car and she did the same.
I watched as she ate, slowly and with grace. I was beginning to wonder where she had been and why I hadn’t noticed her earlier. She was different from anyone that I had come across with.
She seemed to always say the right things, ask the right questions and make the best decisions, but she wasn’t aware of what she could do and what she could achieve.
“Is there a problem, sir?” She asked, stopping to look at me. I blinked slowly and leaned backward. I hadn’t realized that I was staring at her. I poured myself a glass of wine and downed it. But she didn’t stop looking.
“Honestly, Alpha Nolan.” She said, dropping her fork and lifting her eyes to look at me.
“I know Luna Zoe made the wrong call and it probably messed it up. I know you’re not okay with anything that is going on. I know you feel like the board members are going to turn against you. Everything is going to shit and I know. That’s why I told the team that it would be just me having dinner with you tonight, because I felt guilty, and felt like I could probably help in some way.”
She paused and looked at me, so I nodded my head, gesturing for her to go on.
“I just want to know, why do you keep looking at me like that?” She asked, holding her breath. I knew she had been thinking about everything and trying to piece the puzzles together, but I didn’t think that she would have the courage to ask
I leaned forward, my face serious. “What do you think, Lisa?”
