Chapter 41
“Xavier’s POV
Make sure she gets home safely.” I said to one of Zoe’s guards. He nodded at my instructions and shut the door. She was sleeping soundly, knocked out from how much she had to drink I was probably going to tell her that we slept together next rime and that she was too drunk to find out, but I expected her to be smart.
I wasn’t considering tonight as an escape, it was just another opportunity for next time. I already had Zoe in my hands and from now on she was always going to be running to me. I owned her now, and the same goes for the company.
The guard, stood in front of the door staring at me as though he wanted something from me.
“One more thing,” I said, walking towards him. “No one finds out about tonight, I’m guessing she told you the same thing.
“Of course.” He replied, before getting into the car. He was bulke up and was one that you could easily call dumb, but he was far from it. He was pretty smart, contrary to how he looked, and seemed like he could be trusted.
I watched as the car drove off and I walked into my car and got in it. I brought my watch to my face and saw what the time was. I could still make it in time for dinner with Laura.
I started the engine and sped off, glancing occasionally at the passenger seat as I drove, to where all the documents sat. It was pretty ironic and amusing how easy it was. Nolan acted like he was in charge, but had no idea what was going on with the people/closest to him.
drove into the city after driving for almost half an hour. I was beginning to get slightly worried when I remembered that I said I was going to pick her up, that meant that she wasn’t waiting for me anywhere, so instead of taking the turn to the other side of the city, I headed home.
After a short drive, I was finally at the mansion. I got out of the car and headed towards the door, and before I could get there, it opened from inside and Ashley was standing by the doorway.
“It’s cold, shut the door,” I said as I walked in. She shut the door behind me and followed me.
“I heard you finally asked Laura out, I’m proud of you.” She said, smiling widely as she approached me. I smiled wryly and sat down on the couch.
“I couldn’t meet her tonight. And before you ask why, here’s why.” I said, placing the documents on the table. She frowned slightly and took a few steps forward.
“Where did you go?” She asked, keeping her eyes on the documents, but not going to pick them up.
“I had to go see, Zoe,” I replied, expecting her to understand, but she didn’t.
“Are you choosing Zoe instead of Laura?, is that what I think it is?” She blurted out suddenly, pointing an accusing finger at
- me.
I chuckled softly, trying to hold back my laughter.
“Just check the documents, Ashely,” I said to her calmly, pointing at the table. She kept her eyes on me for a while but then reached out and picked it up.
The room fell silent as she read through it, her eyes moving rapidly across each page, and then she stopped.
“What?” I asked her when I noticed that there was a strange look on her face. She sighed deeply and walked to the couch.
“Why does it feel this way?” She muttered under her breath, almost like she was talking to herself.

“Why does it feel what way, Ashley?” I asked, curious about what she was thinking.
She kept her eyes on the document for another couple of seconds, before finally meeting my gaze.

“I don’t know, Xavier. I thought that it would feel better, you know, that we have probably taken a big step in our plans.” “What are you talking about, Ash?” I probed further. She took a deep breath and placed the documents back on the table. “I thought maybe I would be happier, but even though I hate him and that might not change, he is the father of my son.”
I frowned slightly and walked towards the crouch to sit beside her.
“Do you still have feelings for-.”
“No, God, no!” She cut in sharply, not letting me finish the sentence. She was refusing to meet my eyes and with how worked up she was, I was beginning to feel that maybe she still had something for Nolan after all.
I couldn’t blame her, she had always been kind and considerate, and the thought of hurting someone even though they hurt her in the past was probably just too much for her.
“You know what, you’re tired and you need rest. We’ll go through the documents in the morning to see if everything is as we want it, and then we’ll talk about the next step.”
“I just don’t…. I’m sorry.” She muttered, covering her face with her hands.
“There’s nothing to be sorry about, Ashely,” I said to her, patting her shoulder gently.
“It’s obvious that we aren’t like them and this right here, what you feel, it’s what makes us so different. But we also have to show them that you can’t do things and go scot–free. We aren’t pushovers, Ashely, you know that.”
She nodded slowly and got up from the chair. She headed towards the stairs, but stopped and turned around to face me. “Help me check on Brian,” she said as she climbed the stairs. “I don’t want him to see me like this.”
I watched as she reached the top and then disappeared through the hallway. This had been one of my fears, but I hoped that it was all just a temporary feeling and nothing else.
