1 sat behind my desk, staring at Laura as she planted her eyes on the document in front of her, I could see the occasional expression of both surprise and disbelief. I turned my eyes back to the file in front of me, going through the final details. concerning the acquisition.
“Ashley, ma’am? Laura’s voice interrupted my thoughts and I lifted my head to look at her.
“Is that true? Have we really acquired TechCorp?” She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
ed to fight off the urge to smile, but I smiled anyway. “Yes, Laura,” I replied, my tone warm. “Xavier and the team did a great job. We are now the proud owners of TechCorp, and that means that we’ll expand our reach to places we can’t even go.”
“O” She said, her excitement dwindling a little, probably at the mention of Xavier’s name. I hadn’t asked her what
aened, perhaps because I already knew and I also didn’t want to hurt her further.
1 was going to explain further, about our latest acquisition, but the door swung open and Xavier walked in, his presence as commanding as usual. The look on Laura’s face changed immediately and I could see her muscles tensing up.
“Sister.” Xavier greeted, giving me a gentle nod before walking over to my desk. Laura was still sitting there, but she stood up in an instant, almost like she could feel that he was now just a few inches away from her.
“Alpha Xavier.” She greeted him, nodding her head slightly. “I was just leaving.” She added, giving him no chance to even respond to her greetings.
“I’ll give you two a few minutes.” She said with an awkward smile on her face before leaving the room.
I watched as Xavier’s eyes followed her until the door shut and then he turned his attention to me, his brow furrowed. “What’s going on with her?” he asked, his voice low with concern.
I frowned slightly, stopping myself from wanting to hit him on the head for being so insensitive.
“You stood her up, that’s what!” I said, reminding him of what he so easily seemed to have forgotten. I felt guilty too, that I didn’t try to talk to her about it.
Xavier let out a heavy sigh and sat on the chair that Laura just stood up from. “Ashley, you know we have more important things to discuss.” He said, settling into the chair.
I rolled my eyes, not wanting to get into another argument with him. He was stubborn and was only going to give priority to what he saw fit and this currently, was his priority.
“There isn’t much to discuss, except that everything is done.” I replied, letting him know that he could take a deep breath
now.
“How are you holding up?” He asked, leaning forward and giving me a look of concern. I sighed and the memories of the previous night flashed through my mind.
“I think I’m better now, trust me,” I replied with a confident smile.
“It’s not that I don’t trust you. Ashley. I just need to know if you’re okay and if there’s something that you might want to tell me, something that might be bothering you”
“Well, I don’t really know. Look. I’ve just been feeling off lately, I can’t quite put my finger on it.”
He nodded slowly. “Are you sure you want to go ahead with this! I mean I could do it if you want and all you have to do is

stay here and rest. I’ve got you.”
I felt my stomach twist at the idea and quickly shook my head. “No, I’m alright“. I insisted.
“You really don’t have to worry, Xavier. I’ve moved on, trust me.

He shook his head and rested his back against the chair. We sat in silence for a while and I felt that it was probably the right time to scold him about the Laura situation, but the buzz from my phone ruined the plan.
I reached over and answered it. “Hello, this is Mira’s group,” I said, expecting a response from the other side.

“Ashley, it’s me,” a familiar voice replied. “I just wanted to let you know that the acquisition is all set. We’re ready to make the
pouncement.”
I looked at Xavier and he nodded eagerly.
“That’s great news,” I replied. “But..ummm, can we hold off on the announcement until tomorrow morning?”
“Tomorrow?” He echoed, his voice tinged with confusion. “Is everything alright? I mean we have everything sorted from our end and we-
–Everything’s fine, you don’t have to worry. I just want to make sure that I have everything in order before we go public. Can you hold off on the announcement until then?
“Of course, Ashley,” he replied. “I’ll pass the information down as soon as possible to the rest of the team, tomorrow it is.”
“Thank you,” I replied with relief, he said the same and I hung up the phone. Xavier still had his eyes on me, but didn’t ask any questions regarding all that he just heard.
“So we’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning, to the Sacred Moon pack?” He asked, waiting for my response. I hesitated for a while and then nodded.
“Mmmhmm,” I replied, smiling at what was in store for us. He took a deep breath and sat upright.
“But I’ll be leaving Brian behind,” I said sharply. “I think he’ll do good with Laura, they have a special relationship,” I added. “You don’t want him to see, do you?” Xavier asked, referring to Nolan. I swallowed hard and nodded.
“You can say that. I can imagine him going through all the stages of madness, I wouldn’t want Brian to be in the middle of it.” I said softly.
Xavier nodded slowly like he was deep in thought. “Perfect” He said suddenly and then stood up.
“One more thing.” I called out, stopping him in his tracks. He took a deep breath and turned around, he probably knew what I was going to say.
“You have to say something to her,” I said softly. “And probably suggest another dinner,” I added, raising my eyebrows
He kept his eyes on me for a while before finally nodding his head. “Yes ma’am.” He replied sarcastically, before walking out
of the room.
