Chapter 47

*Ashley’s POV✶

“Are you ready for this, Ashley?” Xavier asked me, his deep voice echoing through the morning. The night was probably the shortest I had ever experienced and the big day was here.

“I guess I am,” I said, giving him a confident smile. I could feel the nervousness in my stomach as I watched him fix his tie and it was almost as if he was born for this, and he probably hated Nolan more than I did.

We made our way down to the garage and got into the car. The drive was long, but I used it as an opportunity to go through l the necessary information about TechCorp. I had postponed the announcement by another thirty minutes so that we’d he right on time when the news dropped.

We finally pulled up to the towering glass and steel building. It wasn’t what I expected, and even though I had seen pictures and videos of it, it was definitely smaller than I thought it would be.

Everything about this felt easy and that probably made me feel a little better and less nervous. I got out of the vehicle ar could feel the curious eyes of the employee on us. I straightened up and walked in.

The news was going to drop in just a few minutes that I was the boss, and there was no better entry than that.

I had Xavier behind me and we walked in with an air of authority. But just as I went through the threshold, a young woman who was probably in her mid–twenties walked up to me hésitantly, giving me a smile that seemed forced.

“Excuse me, ma’am, sir. Are you… the new investors?” She asked, her voice shaking as she did.

I gave her a warm smile and shook my head, looked around, and saw that all eyes were on us, this couldn’t have been a better audience. I cleared my throat and took a step closer to her.

“Actually, my dear.” I began. “I’m the New boss, you might want to make sure that everyone is up to date on the latest company news,” I said softly, lifting up my head and gesturing at the news that just came on, on the television.

“What?” She muttered in confusion, before awkwardly walking away. I was already getting bored of all the processes and I just wanted to get on with it.

I turned around and saw Xavier still behind me, standing there like a bodyguard when in fact he was more. We walked through the business halls and I could see the questioning eyes of the employees.

Finally, we reached the CEO’s office and I pushed the door open. I crossed the threshold and the familiar scent of Luca hit of wind. It smelled like lemon, a scent that brought back memories that I had hidden far away. gust

Xavier and I exchanged a brief glance as we walked further into the room. The office was spacious and modern, with floor- to–ceiling windows which offered a stunning view of the city, something that I liked personally.

“What do you want to do next?” Xavier asked, getting to the serious business.

“I should probably schedule a meeting with the entire executive team, I think it’s only necewary that I introduce myse properly. And also, tell them what we’re up to”

“I want the world to know that TechCorp is under new management, and we’re not messing around”

Just then, there was a knock on the door and a well dressed man entered the room.

“Ah, you must be the new owners,” he said, offering a polite smile and his hand to shake to Xavier. Xavier hesitated but then shook his hand firmly.

“Alpha Xavier,” he said, keeping a straight face.

“I’m Kingston, I used to be a shareholder, at least not until you acquired all the shares.” He said with a smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

He took a step backward and smiled. “I must say, this is really unexpected. I wasn’t aware that all of this would happen so quickly.”

I nodded, with a smile still on my face. “It’s not something that should come to you as a surprise, Mr Kingston. All we can say is that this transition will be a smooth one. My partner and I have big plans for TechCorp, that’s probably why we still have you around.”

He nodded his head slowly. “I sec.” He replied, his head scanning through the room as if he wanted something.

“Well, I guess we’ll see in the next official meeting.” He said, turning around, but Xavier stopped him by placing a slight hand on his shoulder.

“What about the previous CEO, Alpha Nolan?” Xavier asked, stealing a glance at me. Kingston turned his eye from Xavier and then to me.

“I really don’t know what you’re asking, but one thing that I know for sure is that he had this coming. I think you all have been in this for a long time, and It’s pretty obvious, considering how well it has worked out for you. If Alpha Nolan doesn’t know yet, it’s only a matter of time.”

“Thank you,” I replied softly, my voice low and firm. He nodded respectfully and then walked out of the room.

I took a deep breath and watched as he walked off. Nolan has people like this around him and that was probably one of the reasons why he was failing. I turned my eyes back to Xavier and he smiled at me.

“Ifsend him a message, I don’t think we have to work with him anymore,” Xavier said, it was exactly what I thought and I was glad to see that we were on the same page.
