The sunlight went through the curtains and into the room, casting a golden glow throughout the whole space. I blinked my eyes open and the first thing I noticed was the soft falling and rising of Lisa’s chest beside me. She was naked and her hair was spread across the mirror, her skin glowing under the morning sun

I blinked slowly as the memories of last night came rushing in. As much as I wanted to stay in bed, there was a strange feeling in my stomach and I couldn’t neglect it. Too much was at stake and I couldn’t stay here, lazing around. I glanced at her again and noticed that she was still sleeping

lipped out of the bed and walked into the bathroom. Without a second wasted, I turned on the shower and the water went through my body, washing away the dirt, but not the sense of dread that was now sitting heavy in my chest. I stood there for a couple of minutes, trying to tell myself that everything was going to go just fine, but even I didn’t believe that

I got out of the bathroom and quickly put my clothes on and when I lifted my head up, she was awake. Her eyes followed me as I moved across the room

There was a satisfied smile playing on her lips and I didn’t want to hear what the reason was, I already felt guilty as it was and didn’t want to impact myself further even though I knew that this was probably going to end between the two of us

You should probably get dressed too,” I said softly, grabbing my jacket. My words sounded like an order even though it wasn’t supposed to, but I could do nothing to help it. I still had the company to think about and there wasn’t any time to think of something else

She nodded slowly and slipped out of bed. I turned around and tried not to watch as she slipped into her clothes, but it was hard to look away, especially after the night we had shared, which we both agreed was a necessary distraction

A few minutes later, we were both dressed. We walked downstairs together in an awkward silence. We reached where the car was parked and we got in. I slid into the seat with no words and took a deep breath

I placed my hand on the steering wheel and gave her a quick glance and noticed that she had her eyes fixed on her iPad, she didn’t want to look at me

I started the engine and the low hum replaced the sound of nothing, but just before I could pull out of the driveway, she placed her hand on mine, stopping me

Alpha, wait,she said softly

I frowned and turned to look at her, wondering what was going on

What is it?I asked, keeping my eyes on her. And without answering right away, she swiped the screen a few times, bedside holding it out to me. I looked at the screen, slightly confused about what message she was trying to pass. I had seen images like this a thousand times and yet I couldn’t figure this one out

And what is this supposed to be?I asked, staring at her

She sighed in slight disappointment and her eyes sent back to the screen. The stocksThey are rising. It’s more than usual and it looks like someone invested in the company.”

I took the device from her and stared into the screen, going through the charts. I didn’t want to believe it at first, but the numbers showing on the screen didn’t lie

This doesn’t make any sense

I muttered in disbelief

Nolan, look,” she continued, showing me another graph. This isn’t just some small bump. Whoever this is, they’ve thrown in a huge amount of money.”

I was slightly surprised that she called me by just my name, but that was the least of my worries. Just before I could respond to what she said, my phone buzzed and I quickly glanced at the screen. It was Xavier

I didn’t have the energy to speak with him at the moment, so I put the phone aside, but just as I did, his voice suddenly echoed through my head, making me wince

Alpha, what are you doing?”

I sighed deeply, slightly annoyed that he chose to use the mind link. It wasn’t something we used unless it was urgent, and this probably had to be

What are you talking about, Xander?I asked, turning to look at Lisa who didn’t understand what was going on yet

Why did you sell the shares? He asked sharply, his voice sharp. I thought you said you were going to find a way. I didn’t know you were going to sell the company. It’s your blood!”

I frowned and felt a cold sensation go through my body, and I gripped the steering wheel, trying to make sense of what he was saying

What are you talking about, Xander?I asked for the second time. There was a pause and I could hear him taking deep breaths

I know you probably didn’t want me to know, but guess what? I do now. It’s in the news that a massive block of shares has been transferred. Someone bought almost everything…. A huge portion of the company.”

I could now hear my own heart, pounding in my chest. What the heck was happening? Someone had gone behind my back. The rising stocks and everything happening wasn’t just a coincidence

I didn’t sell, Xander. This might just be a misunderstanding.I said to him, trying to sound calm

Well, someone did and you better find out who, because this isn’t funny. Are you just going to give away all you’ve worked for? What the heck man?He asked, his voice breaking

I took a deep breath and ended the mind link, he was getting too emotional and I needed to find out what was going on

I turned on the engine again and drove out of the garage. Lisa wasn’t saying anything and she had her head buried inside the iPad and my best guess was that she already knew what was going on

We got to the company and I pushed out of the car, I got into the elevator and headed straight to my office

I could notice the strange look on the faces of my employees and was starting to believe that all of this might just be true. I turned around and saw Lisa behind me and a sad look was on her face. I ignored her and walked straight to my door, I was going to figure this out

I turned the knob and pushed the door open, but what I saw next was something I didn’t expect
