Chapter 51
*Ashley’s POV
I watched as Nolan stormed out of the room and immediately the door shut behind him, signaling that he was gone. I let out a sigh of relief, a deep breath that I hadn’t realized I was holding. The room while he was in, seemed suffocating, as if I was going to lose my cool and appear weak in front of him, but that didn’t happen.
I walked back and leaned against the desk, staring at the empty space where he was just standing a few moments ago. I could hear the thumping in my chest and it wasn’t from fear, but from feeling of thrill, something I hadn’t felt before. I had pushed Nolan to the wall and it felt empowering.
I sat on the chair and sank into it, giving myself a moment to picture the look on his face and enjoy the moment. I looked down at my hands and they were still shaking slightly from how intense our conversation was. The glass on the table came into focus and I realized that it was cracked from the impact of my hit earlier.
“You handled that well.” Xavier’s voice echoed suddenly through the empty room as he walked towards me. I looked up at him and saw there was a smile on his lips.
“He was almost begging for mercy, just a little more and his pride would have broken,” he added as he reached the table. “He deserves every bit of what he is getting. Did you see the look on his face?” I replied, my breath still heavy
“He was like deer caught in the headlights,” Xavier chuckled.
“Yes…yes, he was,” I replied, my mind slightly absent from the conversation. I was trying to get myself to enjoy the moment, to believe that I enjoyed the look on his face and how terrible he might be feeling, but something inside of me was holding it back, all the emotions that I had planned to show, something wasn’t letting it.
“What are we going to do with this?” I asked, pointing at the dead guard who was on the floor, lying lifeless. His back was facing us but his head was twisted so perfectly that it was in the other direction. I could see his guess what his last thoughts were just as Nolan held his neck…. Fear

He sighed and turned to look at him. “This shouldn’t be a problem.” He muttered and pulled out his phone. In a few minutes, the body was cleared and the floor was cleaned.
I stared into a blank space, feeling disgusted about the guard who was now dead. I wanted to be able to have all the power I needed, but without hurting anyone and it was clear that Nolan was the opposite of who I was.
He killed someone who was just doing his job without a second thought and there he was, trying to convince me that he didn’t try to kill me all those years ago.

“It’s all a lie,” I said sharply, shaking the thoughts out of my head
“Are you okay?” Xavier asked, staring at me with concern in his eyes. I hadn’t realized that I said it out loud, what I said. I took a deep breath and nodded.
I’ve never been better” I lied, refusing to meet his eyes. He poured a glass of water and handed it to me.
“Drink this.” He said softly, I took it from him and gulped down half of it.

Chapter 51
“So… Now that we’ve done the first part of it, what would you like to do next?” He asked, standing up from the table where he had been sitting.
“Well, apart from getting this company back to where it was and probably higher, which we are already halfway through, I think I’d like to attend a wedding ceremony,” I replied, giving him the eyes.
He stared at me for a moment, processing my words, and just when he realized what I meant, he turned around and waved his hand.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me,” he said, chuckling in disbelief.
“What?” I asked, playfully, knowing that he had gotten the clue about what I meant.
“What do you mean, Ashley? There are more important things than that.” He shot back, desperately trying not to be part of that conversation.
“Can’t you see It, Xavier? Why do to keep running Don’t tell me you don’t know that too?”
ay from it? Even I can tell from wherever I am that she’s your mate.
He took a deep breath, steadied his nerves, and turned around to look at me.
“You stood her up once already. We have important things ahead of us and that’s true, but we just accomplished one of them, you should focus on the pack now. And acknowledging that the moon goddess has given you a mate, is the best place
to start.”
He walked towards my desk and stood in front, grabbed the glass of water from it, and emptied it.
“Why are you so obsessed with me finding a mate?”
“Because you already have one. And I have a bad feeling, something I can’t quite explain. You should pay more attention to the pack from now on. I can handle things here now that we have all that we need.” I said to him firmly.
“Alright, alright.” He replied, throwing his hands in the air as a sign of surrender. “I’ll make a reservation for us tonight and –“But then he stopped and furrowed his eyebrows.
“What?” I asked, staring at him.
“We have to celebrate this…. Don’t you think so?, I don’t have to do anything special, I’ll just invite Laura back to the house to celebrate with us. And then we’ll see where it goes.”
“No,” I replied firmly.

“I’ll spend the night with Brian, and have fun with Laura.” He nodded slowly and then extended his hand towards me.
“What’s this?” I asked, suspicious about the look on his face.
“Let’s have a drink at least.” He said, offering me a warm smile.
