Chapter 52
*Nolan’s POV*
The ride back to the mansion was nothing but a blur, my mind racing with things that I couldn’t recall moments after I had thought about them. Lisa sat with me as we drove slowly out of the garage, her fingers tapping nervously against her iPad. I tightened my grip around the steering wheel and stepped on the gas.
“Are you okay, sir?” Lisa asked, her voice breaking the silence and through my bustling thoughts.
I gave her a quick glance and swallowed hard. “Do I look okay?” I snapped, fighting back the urge to slam the steering wheel.
I didn’t want to talk to her like this was all her fault, to an extent it was and most of it was my fault. If I hadn’t spent the night with her, then I would have noticed when everything was going wrong.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-
“It’s fine.” I cut her off, taking a deep breath.
“It’s not your fault,” I said to her, focusing on the road in front of me. “It’s just… If you want to help, you have to understand how bad this is and not ask stupid questions. I can’t afford to lose my company and you can’t afford not to be smart at this moment in time.”
“I totally understand, sir.” She replied softly, looking into the device that was now resting on her lap.
We drove in silence for a while and the mansion was now only a few miles away, so I turned to her.
“You don’t have to come with me, Lisa. I can just drop you off at the next stop and I’ll call you when I need you.”
She remained still for a while, staring at her feet like it was supposed to help her make a decision. “I don’t mind coming with you, Alpha Nolan. You need someone smart after all.”
“And I need someone that I can trust,” I added, still looking at her. She nodded slowly and smiled at me, she didn’t need to say anything else for me to know that she already made her decision.
It was strange of me to let her make a decision, I would have given her an order before and expected her to follow it without a question asked, but things are different and it creeped me the hell out.
I drove to the mansion and got out of the car. She did the same and we both walked in, greeted by the grand foyer. I hadn’t been here in a few days and it certainly felt strange.
I went straight into my office which also served as a library and Lisa followed me from behind.
“She should be here any minute, “I said quietly, trying to distract myself as I sat behind the desk.
Lisa nodded awkwardly, she was standing a few feet away from me and had her iPad pressed against her chest. “Do you need help with anything, Alpha?” She asked.
“I’m fine,” I replied sharply. “Just…stay there.”
I was slightly offended by her calling me Alpha. It was a title she didn’t use in referring to me often, but now that the company was gone, even though I refused to believe so, I couldn’t help but think it was the only title that I had left.
I sat there, in the chaos of my thoughts, waiting and watching as time passed. The tension in my chest tightened with each passing second and just when I decided that I had had enough, I heard the sound of tires crunching against the gravel.
I adjusted myself and watched as the door opened, and then she walked in.

Chapter 52
“Nolan.” She whispered as soon as our eyes met. Her expression softened and she took another step, entering the room fully.
“Nolan, I’m–”
But before she could finish her sentence, I was already standing in front of her and my hand connected with her face with the speed of lighting. The sound of flesh meeting flesh echoed through the library, sending her flying across the room.
“What did you do?” I yelled, watching as she struggled to her feet placing
Her hair fell around her face, wild and messy.
hand over her cheek, eyes wide with shock.
“You can’t hit me, Nolan.” She shot back, even though her voice was low and shaky.
“I just fuvking did!” I said to her sharply, taking a step towards her. She moved backward and blocked her face with the other hand.
“Don’t come close to me, Nolan.” She said softly, Lisa’s voice.
as if she was pleading. I took another step and just then I heard
“Alpha.” She called. I stopped in my tracks and turned around to look at her, she was shocked as well, that I hit Zoe, but there was also another look on her face.
“Please.” She whispered softly, looking into my eyes. I took a deep breath and headed back to my desk.
“Start talking,” I said sharply, staring at Zoe who was now back on her feet. Her cheek was red, showing the impact of the slap.
She moved closer to the table and I could see her staring at Lisa with a look of disgust written all over her face. “So it’s her now? You chose this..over me?” She asked, turning her eyes back to me. I glanced at Lisa and could see how uncomfortable she was and she was probably already regretting that she stopped me earlier.
“Don’t turn this around!” I said firmly, slamming my fist against the table.
“I should probably leave, I’ll be outside,” Lisa said softly and before I could stop her, she was out of the room, shutting the door behind her.
“What did you do, Zoe?” I asked again, turning my attention back to her. A tear dropped from her face and she lowered her head.
“I only wanted to help.” She muttered softly, her body shaking.
“That’s not what I asked you, bitch. What the heck did you do?” I yelled, rising up from the chair and pushing my face towards hers.
She was shaking even more as if she was going to pass out in a few seconds, but I didn’t give a fuvk. She was an actor and I couldn’t be arsed if she acted like she was going to die any moment from now.
“I only wanted to help, Nolan.” She repeated, lifting her head to look at me. I sighed in frustration and stepped out from behind the table. I reached where she was and placed my hand on her face, caressing her skin gently.
“Give me details Zoe, or I’ll snap your neck,” I whispered under my breath, staring at her with a smile on my face, a devilish
one.
