Chapter 55
*Nolan’s POV*
I sat down, staring at her and watching as she stood against the wall, her eyes filled with fear. She also has another look on her face, something that looked like regret, but maybe it was just me who thought that, I knew Zoe enough to know that she wouldn’t accept that she was wrong even though it meant her death. That’s why I had to do what I wanted to do.
I got up from the chair and saw her flinch as soon as she noticed my movements. I walked towards the window and saw Xander’s car and just then I heard a knock on the door.
“It’s open,” I said, my voice sharp.
The door opened and he walked in, his eyes flicking between Zoe and me. He looked exhausted, almost like he could feel exactly what I was feeling. He knew exactly what was going on and there was no way he would think that what I was doing wasn’t necessary.
“Alpha.” He said, his eyes meeting mine.
I ignored him for a bit and turned to Zoe, who was still in the same spot against the wall. I took slow breaths and walked towards her.
“You’re done here,” I said calmly. “I’m sending you to the main pack.”
She lifted her eyes and stared at me in shock. “What? You can’t do that, Nolan. You promised me-
“I don’t give a damn about the promises,” I cut in sharply, my voice filled with venom. “You crossed a line. You went to Xavier. You gave him everything that he could possibly need and handed him the company, our future. You only thought of you.”
“What else do you want me to say, Nolan? I was trying to help. You just wouldn’t listen to me.”
I had already gotten tired of hearing that and all I wanted was for her to leave.
“You handed them the knife, Zoe. And now they are twisting it in my back.”
She stood there, speechless and unable to defend herself further. But I could still see in her eyes that she wasn’t ready to back down, but that didn’t matter because I had already made my decision.
“What are you going to do to me?” She asked, her voice shaking slightly.
“I’m not going to kill you if that’s what you think,” I said, turning away from her towards Xander who obviously knew what was going on.
“But you’re leaving the city, you’re going back to the main pack and Xander will take you there. You’ll stay in the mansion until I decide what to do with you
“You can’t just send me away like this! she screamed, slamming her fists against the wall in frustration and anger. “I’m not a prisoner, Nolan.”
“It’s Alpha Nolan.” I corrected her sharply, pointing my finger at her. I was fed up with her acts and all I wanted to see was her back, headed far away from me.
“You’re not a prisoner, Zoe. But you’re no longer an important member of the pack, I can’t trust you with anything anymore. You’re no longer Luna and you’re nothing to me.”
I could see the tears forming in her eyes and I looked away, my eyes meeting Xander’s. “Take her away,” I said in exhaustion.
Chapter 55
“Are you sure about this, Nolan? Sending her to the main pack might-”
“Can you just do what I ask without blabbering about it?” I said, cutting him off. “I’m sure. Take her away from here.”
Zoe’s eyes
burned with anger, but beneath it, I could see the fear She knew what this meant. It was punishment for what she had done, a way to strip her of her power without causing too much of a scene. A way to save her from the embarrassment of failure and treason.
“You’re making a mistake.” She said softly as she reached the door. “Sending me away won’t fix this. You’ll regret it, Nolan.”
“I doubt it,” I said to her finally, before looking away. She was right, sending her away wasn’t going to change anything, but I would be sure that I now had at least one betrayer away from me
“What now?” Xander asked, walking towards me.
“You don’t have to worry about it. You’ll see.” I replied, taking deep breaths.
I walked towards the window and watched as Xander took Zoe away, driving off through the path in the woods that led to the main pack. I sighed deeply and stepped out of the room, I reached the main room and saw Lisa there, lying with her iPad placed on her chest and sleeping soundly.
I carried her up and took her back to the room, before heading to the garage, I couldn’t stop thinking about Ashley.
Time passed slowly as I waited for her. My patience was wearing thin, but I had no choice but to wait. It was quite ironic and embarrassing to think that I was hiding like a fugitive in a company that I built.
I stayed in my car for a couple of more hours and then I saw her, walking towards her car. I stepped out of the shadows and made my way towards her.
“Ashley,” I called out.
She stopped, turned around, and saw me. The look on her face changed and she sighed. “What do you want, Nolan?”
“I need to talk to you“” I said softly.
I already had a bad feeling about this, but I couldn’t resist the urge to try. I felt it would be easier to talk to her and hear what she really had to say without Xavier here, the real reason why she decided to frustrate me.
“What do you want to talk about?” She asked, clearly not affected by my presence. I smiled wryly and took a deep breath.
“Let’s go somewhere, let’s not talk here,” I said to her softly, trying to sound as reasonable as I could, even though I was itching Inside.
“You’re delusional, Nolan.” She said suddenly. “This is war and you should be fighting back, giving it all you got.” She said with a smile on her face. She was mocking me.
“Let’s talk Ashley, I promise it won’t take long,” I said again, trying all I could to sound reasonable. But no matter how I tried, I could hear my own voice, I was sounding like a loser, like I was already defeated.
“I’m sorry, Nolan. I can’t ” She said finally before getting into her car and I watched as she drove off.
