Chapter 32
Devon had been hanging around the entrance of MorningMyst Group all day, but he hadn’t seen a trace of this so–called Samantha. He couldn’t shake the feeling that she was incredibly sly.
After leaving MorningMyst, he didn’t bother going back to his own company. Instead, he headed straight to Telford Enterprise to find Harley.
Harley had been invited to an auction. He wasn’t keen on going, but there was something he wanted there. Just as he stepped out of the office, he ran into Devon.
“Harley, what a rare sight–leaving work on time,” said Devon.
Harley didn’t even look at him. “Have you seen Samantha?”
Devon replied, “Well, about that… I’ve been waiting in front of MorningMyst all day but didn’t see her even once.
“You’ve seen her before?” asked Harley.
“No, that’s why I want to see her.”
Harley thought Devon was an idiot and scoffed. “You’ve never seen her, yet how can you be sure it’s her?”
Obviously, Devon realized the flaw in his logic too. “Shit, I’ve been an idiot!” He recalled Lenora’s words. “But your ex–wife said Samantha is quite beautiful.”
Devon stroked his chin. “With my charm, I’ve got a solid chance of winning her over. Then I can get back at her for the disgusting way she treated me before.”
Harley snorted and took out his car keys to open the car door.
It was only then that Devon came to his senses. “Wanna grab a bite?”
Harley got into the car and looked at him with disdain. “You’re not busy today?”
“Not really, not as busy as you.”
With a loud thud, Harley slammed the
car door shut.
“Hey-” By the time Devon snapped back to reality, Harley’s car was already pulling out of the parking space.
However, undeterred by his thick skin, Devon followed Harley in his own car, mooching off a dinner and tagging along to the auction.
Lenora arrived early at the event; Cassidy was off filming a show, so she came alone after having dinner.
So when Harley and Devon entered, she spotted them right away
She sat toward the back in a regular seat where it wasn’t too crowded, and Harley obviously saw her too.
But he merely glanced her way before heading upstairs to a private box.
Lenora raised her eyebrows and took out her phone to reply to a message from Cassidy.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t lucky tonight; not only did she encounter Harley, but she also ran into his troublemaking sister and his pristine ex–girlfriend.

Carla entered with Katelyn, who had just returned from a sea voyage. Katelyn had heard that Harley would be attending tonight’s event, so she asked someone for two tickets and brought Carla along.
Neither of them noticed Lenora as they made their way upstairs
By eight o’clock, the venue was packed, and the auction began.
Lenora had a clear goal: she was there for a piano.
It was a piano crafted by a master piano maker in the 1960s for his pianist wife, named “Beloved“. It took over three years of meticulous tuning and polishing to complete. Sadly, shortly after it was finished, his wife passed away from cancer.
After his wife’s death, the master never crafted another piano. Upon his passing, his children donated the piano to a museum, which later closed due to mismanagement. A businessman from Riranni then acquired it for his wife at a high price of 500 thousand dollars.
The businessman brought the piano back to Rirann later. His descendants proved to be exceedingly mediocre. Due to his eldest son’s gambling debts, the businessman’s wife was forced to sell the piano at a low price to cover the debts.
“Beloved” changed hands several times and lost its value, eventually ending up at the auction house.
Seeing the significance behind “Beloved“, the auction house started hyping it up within social circles six months ago, aiming to fetch a high price tonight.
Lenora was there for “Beloved“, of course. She had no musical talent, nor was she buying it for herself.
The chairman of Verdant Sources had already arranged her immigration, and she was looking to offload his shares.
Lenora wanted the shares in her hands but she wasn’t the only one making contacts. To show sincerity, she focused her intentions on “Beloved“.
Lenora had a clear goal. “Beloved“, as tonight’s highlight item, naturally made its grand entrance at the very end.
The earlier items were jewelry or antique collectibles, neither of which Lenora had the expertise to appreciate or the hobby to collect, so she barely glanced at them, keeping her head down and playing games on her phone throughout.
It wasn’t until nine o’clock that “Beloved” was brought out.
Lenora closed the game and looked up at the elegant black piano on stage, twirling her bidding paddle in her hand.
per bid.
Harley slowly opened his eyes upon seeing the piano. He didn’t want to waste time and planned to make a quick decision, picking up his bidding paddle ready to raise it to a million dollars.
The starting bid for “Beloved” was 330 thousand dollars, with a minimum increase of 30 thousand dollars
However, someone else beat him to it, and the auctioneer’s hammer fell. “A million dollars. The lady bids a million dollars!”
Starting at a million dollars caused a stir in the audience.
Devon whistled in surprise. “Who’s bidding down there? That’s quite the bold move. While saying this, he looked at Harley with a gloating expression.
Harley calmly glanced back at him and switched his bidding paddle.
“1.2 million dollars! The gentleman in box number two bids 1.2 million dollars!”
Lenora raised her eyebrows and immediately countered with 1.3 million dollars.
Many people were initially interested in “Beloved“, but when the price quickly jumped to 1.3 million dollars, most decided it

wasn’t worth it.
So, several potential bidders put down their paddles, preferring to watch the drama unfold between the two main contenders.
As soon as Lenora bid 1.3 million dollars, someone on the second floor called out 1.5 million dollars.
This sudden jump of 0.2 million dollars was too much for anyone to handle.
Lenora could afford it, but she didn’t want to be taken for a ride.
Even at its peak popularity, the piano was only worth around 3 million dollars. If she continued to bid against the person upstairs, the price would quickly exceed 3 million dollars.
It was not worth it.
“1.5 million dollars once! 1.5 million dollars twice! 1.5 million dollars–2 million dollars! The lady bids 2 million dollars!”
Harley thought 1.5 million dollars would secure the piano, but was surprised when the woman downstairs kept raising her bid.
He frowned, suspecting the auction house might have planted a shill.
“Wow, the woman downstairs is amazing, not even blinking at 1.5 million dollars!” Devon sat there with his legs crossed, leisurely observing the scene as if it had nothing to do with him. If there were popcorn, he might have started eating.
Having known Harley for so long, this was the first time Devon saw someone challenging Harley’s bids. It was truly spectacular.
Suddenly, Harley stopped moving, which unsettled Devon. He nudged Harley. “Hey, weren’t you planning to give that piano to the chairman of Verdant Sources? If you don’t up your bid, she’s going to get it.”
Harley glared at him coldly, then emotionlessly raised his paddle for 2.5 million dollars.
The room erupted in gasps, and the auction house staff were nearly moved to tears.
The piano’s original purchase price was just over 260 thousand dollars, yet it fetched a whopping 2.5 million dollars.
What a windfall!
Lenora pursed her lips, twirled her bidding paddle in her hand once more, and finally set it down. ‘Forget it, not worth it.
