Chapter 39
Lenora’s smile quickly faded, and her expression grew cold.
Standing tall, she looked at Harley. “What does this have to do with you, Mr. Brandt?”
Harley stiffened, letting out a scoff as he shifted the subject. “Did you leave your diploma at my place?”
Lenora frowned slightly. “…No, I took it with me.”
“Well, you should check to make sure it’s real.” With that, Harley walked past her, heading to the black sedan already waiting.
Matthew followed close behind, giving Lenora an uneasy nod before hurrying to catch up.
Watching Harley get into the car and drive away, Lenora finally turned and got into her Ferrari.
Back at her villa, the first thing she did was check her diploma, and to her surprise, it was indeed a fake.
She didn’t need to think twice to know who was behind it.
Without delay, Lenora drove straight to the Brandt estate. After five months, she felt nothing as she pulled up to the grand
gates.
Parking her red Ferrari in front, she walked up and rang the doorbell.
The Brandt’s butler, Graham, opened the door and blinked in surprise. “Mrs… Ms. Maynard?”
Lenora nodded. “Open the door, please.”
Graham’s disapproval was clear.
With a slight smirk, he said, “Sorry, Mrs. Brandt and Ms. Brandt are both asleep. Perhaps you could come back another time.”
Lenora smiled. “If that’s the case, then I’ll just have to call the police.”
The mention of police made Graham pale. “Wait here. I’ll speak with Mrs. Brandt.”
Lenora knew his tricks too well. She smiled coolly. “Graham, I’ll give you three seconds. If you calling the police.”

She held up her phone, showing him the dialed number, making it clear she wasn’t bluffing.
Realizing she meant it, Graham quickly opened the door.
Lenora glanced at him as she walked inside. “I might need you to let Mrs. Brandt know I’m here.”
Once, she had been as meek as a lamb, never answering back when Graham scolded her. But now, every word seemed to sting.
Graham scowled but didn’t dare argue.
He felt like Lenora had become a completely different person, nothing like the Lenora he used to know.
“Fine, wait a moment,” he said, heading upstairs.
Lenora knew the Brandt mansion well.

She hadn’t expected to set foot here again, yet here she was, sitting in the upstairs parlor after five months..
Soon, she heard footsteps from the third floor.
It was quiet inside, as the staff were already off–duty.

Carla’s footsteps echoed down the stairs, her voice rising before she even reached the landing. “What’s she doing here? Graham, why did you let just anyone into our house?”
Carla reached the second floor and stopped short, spotting Lenora.
Her face darkened at the reminder of the recent court summons. “Didn’t you and Harley already get divorced? What are you doing here now?”
Lenora met her gaze calmly. “Where’s my diploma?”
Carla’s face twitched. “What diploma? You lost yours and came here to blame me?”
Lenora cut straight to the point. “Hand it over, or I’m calling the police.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Carla snapped. “Go ahead and call them!”
Suddenly, a cold voice rang out from the stairs. “Hand it over.”
Harley’s unexpected presence startled Carla, but she quickly recovered. “What do you mean, Harley? I didn’t take anything from her!”
Harley’s glare was unrelenting. “I saw it. You have five minutes to get Lenora’s diploma.”
Carla’s defiance crumbled under Harley’s gaze. She froze, stunned that Harley would actually side with Lenora–and even more surprised that he knew Lenora’s diploma was in her possession.
She cast Lenora a hateful look before stomping upstairs. A moment later, she returned, holding the diploma. “Here. It’s not like I wanted it. You’re the one who left it behind!”
Carla had half a mind to toss it at Lenora, but Harley’s icy stare made her think twice. She handed it over, tight–lipped. Lenora took the diploma, checked it, and turned to leave without a word.
Just before exiting, she glanced back at Harley.
Harley frowned, irritated by her lack of gratitude.
‘I came all the way here to help her, and she doesn’t even say thanks,’ he thought bitterly.
He hurried outside to catch her as she was getting into her car. This has nothing to do with me,” he said, blocking her path.
Lenora barely spared him a glance. “I don’t care.”
Harley’s face hardened, and he grabbed her wrist. “Did you ever love me?”
For a moment, Lenora hesitated, then she laughed. “If you’re suspecting, then clearly not.”
She pulled free, got in her car, and drove away without looking back.
Watching her leave, Harley clenched his fists.
‘So, it was just about the money,‘ he thought, his frustration boiling over.

Loosening his tie, he stormed back inside.
Carla was sipping a drink in the lounge, her hands trembling as he entered. “Harley…” she said.

“If you mess with her again, don’t expect me to be so forgiving.” lis voice was low, filled with enough venom to make Carla pale.
She sat there in a daze, unable to utter a single word as she watched Harley’s retreating figure.
As Harley’s car pulled away outside, Carla stood up and walked to the balcony, watching until he was gone.
Confused and angry, she thought, ‘He never cared about Lenora before. Now, it seems like he actually likes her!
The more Carla thought about it, the darker her expression grew.
