Chapter 4

“Mrs. Ms. Maynard” Matthew was tripping over the new title, nearly messing it up again.

Lenora, hearing her name, wriggled free from the grip around her head with a decisive move. She had just peeked out from under Aran’s arm when she spotted Matthew elbowing his way into the thick of it all.

“Everything okay, Matthew?” she asked.

Matthew, jostled by a pushy reporter, stumbled but quickly regained his footing. “Ms. Maynard, Mr. Brandt’s requesting your presence

Lenora quirked an eyebrow, glancing toward a black limousine parked nearby. The tinted windows made it impossible to see the people inside, but Lenora felt eyes on her.

She bit her lip, “Could you tell Mr. Brandt we’re better off as strangers from now on! It’ll save us both from drama.”

The reporters were relentless with their questions, and with fans likely on their way, Aran urged, “Let’s hop in the car.”

Lenora agreed without a word, letting Aran guide her into the vehicle.Once she clicked her seatbelt in place, a wave of Aran’s fans erupted outside, making Lenora thankful she was already inside the car and out of reach of the fan frenzy

The Maserati then merged into traffic, leaving the swarm of fans and eager reporters trailing behind.

“Lenora, it didn’t hurt you, right?” Aran asked.

Lenora shot him a look, “Future note: stay clear of Cassidy’s crazy ideas.

She’d thought it was just some surprise, and look where that got her. Just thinking about becoming Aran’s rumored girlfriend and the internet buzz made Lenora’s head spin..

Aran quirked an eyebrow. “Honestly, I think it’s a smart move.”

Laughing, Lenora said, “So, you’ve been around Cassidy enough to get a bit of wild, huh?”

“Hey, I just couldn’t stand seeing you picked on, especially by Harley, Aran defended himself. As they stopped at a red light Aran turned to her, serious but genuine,

Lenora felt a warm flicker in her heart and smiled. “Don’t sweat it. I’m not easy to bully.”

She used to let the Brandt family push her around, dreaming that Harley might actually care. But she was done with that- no more letting them walk all over her.

Matthew watched the Maserati pull away before snapping back to reality. Just a second ago, journalists swarmed around him, but they quickly chased after the main event,

Standing alone now, he caught a glimpse of the sleek black limo nearby, pondering his next move with Harley.

“Mr. Brandt” Climbing back into the car, Matthew faced Harley. Ms. Maynard’s not coming,” he said.

Harley scowled. “You think I didn’t notice?” He had seen Lenora follow after that celeb into the car.

Matthew bit his lip, hesitating. “Ms. Maynard left you a message

That seemed to soften Harley a bit, “What’s her message?” He thought Lenora wasn’t too aloof to send a parting word..

“Ms. Maynard suggested it’s best if you two act like strangers from now on to avoid any more drama.”

Harley’s expression darkened, and he let out a cold, dismissive sport. “Fine. Don’t ever bring her up again.

“Got it. Mr. Brandi,” Matthew replied, wisely choosing to say no more. After years of working with Harley, he knew too well the signs of an incoming stonn..

“Drive” Harley barked.

Alfred jumped, mumbling a quick sorry, as Harley stared out the window, scowling at the lingering crowd.

The blue Maserati rolled into the only spot left, and Lenora peered out the window. “Cassidy told you to get me here?”

Aran clicked off his seatbelt and gave her a look, all smiles and no harm. “Hey, Cassidy’s just looking out for you.”

That grin of his was something else, like sunshine in spring, and Lenora couldn’t help but bite. “Aran, stop it. I’m freshly divorced, and here you are, flashing that smile. What’s the deal? You think I’m too old to chase after you, or you reckon I won’t be after a friend!”

Aran shot back. “Well, Lenora, if you’re up for it, I’m here. Let’s not make it complicated.”

That left her speechless. They stepped out of the car and headed into the building.

Ormonde Entertainment might have only been on the scene for five years, but it had been a launching pad for a bunch of hot new talent these past two. And Aran was right up there with them.

Cassidy recently nailed it in a movie, but now she had this gap in her schedule and was feeling a bit bored. As soon as Lenora got divorced, Cassidy arranged this drama for her.

Lenora, who was actually the big boss behind the scenes at the company, hardly ever showed up. But since Aran escorted her, everyone showed their respect, even though they were clueless about her real role.

As they arrived at Cassidy’s office, Aran paused and said, “Lenora Cassidy’s inside waiting for you. I’ll get someone to bring

in some snacks.”

Lenora eyed him, half–amused. “Really? You were all guts when stirring up trouble, and now you’re chickening out just when things are getting juicy?”

Being thrust into the limelight like this, Lenora knew she was bound to grab some attention now.

Aran chuckled and opened the door for her. Just so you know, all this drama? It’s all Cassidy’s doing. She’s the mastermind.”

Lenora couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, go take a break. It’s not every day you get a day off and still end up dealing with work stuff. Don’t expect a medal from the company, though”

“As long as you’re not mad at me,” Aran said before he took off.

Lenora shut the door behind her and made her way into the posh office. Coming around the corner, she spotted Cassidy lounging on the couch. “Wonder if your fans know you’re chilling out here like this?” she teased.

Cassidy, unfazed, flashed her tablet at Lenora. “Nora, come check this out. You’re blowing up the trending searches”

Lenora raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t pull some strings to make that happen!”

Dragging her over to sit down, Cassidy was all excitement. “Check this out Who’s gonna throw shade at you now for clinging to Harley?”

Then, handing the tablet to Lenora, Cassidy grinned. “Relax, I’ve got everything under control. Today, it’s all about Aran. Wait till Emory gets back from that shoot. It’ll be his turn”

Finding herself suddenly in the spotlight as “Aran’s longtime crush,” Lenora was speechless, trying to process Cassidy’s bombshell

Cassidy thought just breaking it off with Harley wasn’t quite enough. She believed Lenora had a rough time with the Brandt family, and now that she was free, standing up for her and even getting back at those who had wronged Lenora seemed like the right move.

“Hey, since you’ve finally ditched Harley today, we’ve got to celebrate big time! I’ve got everything planned out for a killer party tonight at Night’s Dance, all to celebrate your freedom!”
