Just as Katelyn sat down, she overheard Ethan asking who Lenora was.

Katelyn’s face paled slightly. “She’s Lenora, Harley’s ex–wife.” 

Ethan raised an eyebrow and turned to look at a woman sitting in a booth nearby. She rested her chin on her hand, lazily scrolling through her phone, with warm sunlight streaming in through the window, casting a gentle glow on her exquisitely beautiful face. 

“She’s really stunning.” Ethan remarked without hesitation, nearly making Katelyn choke on her drink. 

Glancing at Lenora, Katelyn saw her smiling at her, which felt like a provocation. Grinding her teeth, she quickly averted her gaze, pretending to read the menu as she casually added, “Yeah, Ms. Maynard really is attractive, especially with her new boyfriend. They make a perfect match.” 

Ethan was intrigued by her comment and pulled his gaze away from Lenora. “I remember they got divorced less than six months ago, right?” 

“Yeah. I heard it was because Lenora cheated during their marriage… Oh, wait, I shouldn’t have said that!” Katelyn exclaimed, covering her mouth, feigning regret for letting that slip. 

Ethan raised an eyebrow. “So Harley’s ex–wife seems to have a flair for romance.” 

Katelyn understood his implication, and her smile froze. 

After that, Ethan didn’t look at Lenora or ask Katelyn any more questions about her. He still had some interest in Katelyn. 

But Katelyn felt a thorn prick in her heart, especially since every time she looked up, she saw Lenora enjoying her meal, which only deepened the irritation. 

“I need to use the restroom,” Katelyn announced, deciding to escape. 

Ethan nodded, watching her walk away. He straightened his clothes and approached Lenora’s table. 

“Hello, Ms. Maynard, I’m Ethan Parker,” he introduced himself. 

Lenora took a sip of her orange juice and looked up at him. “I remember you. Mr. Parker, is there something you need?” 

Ethan was surprised. “You know me?” 

“You came to my wedding day, standing in for your father,” Lenora replied, her tone casual. 

Ethan couldn’t help but admire her bright, sparkling eyes. “Ms. Maynard, your memory is impressive.” 

Lenora smiled slightly. “So, what can I help you with, Mr. Parker?” 

He sat directly across from her. “I heard you started your own entertainment company. I have a cousin who’s interested in getting into the industry and wants-” 

Before he could finish, Lenora wiped her mouth and interrupted him by giving him a phone number. “Mr. Parker, you can contact this number. The owner is named Linda, and she’s our top agent. I’m not too familiar with the company details, so I wouldn’t be much help.” 

She smiled again, gathering her belongings. I’m done eating, so I’ll be on my way

Ethan felt frustrated. He had never been rejected like this before and wasn’t willing to let her go. “Wait!” 

Lenora paused mid–stride and looked back at him. “Is there something else, Mr. Parker?”

“I heard your company is gearing up to shoot a movie. I’m quite interested. Could you tell me more about it?” Ethan asked. 

Lenora raised an eyebrow. “You’re interested in investing in our new movie?” 

Ethan thought he was getting somewhere, regaining the confidence he usually had. “Yes, I’m considering it. 1.5 million dollars isn’t a small sum, so I’d like to understand the project better. Don’t you agree, Ms. Maynard?” 

Lenora was relieved that Cassidy wasn’t around; if she had been, she probably would have laughed out loud. 

Ethan actually thought he could lure her with money. 

Lenora smiled, her lips curving gracefully, making her face bloom like a flower. 

“It’s definitely important to do your research before investing,” she paused, “but you might have misunderstood, Mr. Parker; I’m not short on cash.” 

With that, she turned and walked away. 

Ethan’s expression stiffened as he watched Lenora’s retreating figure, his smile fading. 

Rejection is charming to me, but too much of it can be boring,‘ he mused. 

As Lenora turned, she spotted Katelyn, who was discreetly snapping photos with her phone. Raising an eyebrow, she strode over confidently and extended her hand. “How did it turn out? Let me see!” 

Katelyn’s face paled, but she quickly recovered. “What are you talking about, Ms. Maynard? I don’t understand.” 

Lenora shot her a pointed look. “Oh, I believe you’re just a bit slow on the uptake, Miss Sheppard.” 

“Y–You…!” Katelyn stammered, ready to retort. 

But Lenora was quicker. “If you could understand my words, Miss Sheppard, you wouldn’t keep ignoring me.” 

Feeling guilty, Katelyn stiffened and stared at Lenora. “I really don’t get what you’re saying.” 

“This just shows that your intelligence is embarrassingly low. I think you might need to see a doctor.,” Lenora said coldly, her playful demeanor disappearing. “Katelyn, this is my final warning. Don’t provoke me anymore.” 

“I have no idea what you mean,” Katelyn insisted. 

“No need to keep announcing that you’re clueless,” Lenora said with a dismissive wave, walking away and leaving Katelyn standing there, her expression flickering between shock and anger. 

By the time Katelyn gathered herself to retort, Lenora had already finished her bill and left the restaurant. 

The restaurant staff who witnessed the entire encounter looked at Katelyn differently now. 

Some even recorded the incident and shared it on their Twitter, 

Katelyn glanced at the servers, wanting to defend herself but not knowing how, so she swallowed her anger and returned to 

her seat. 

After being rejected by Lenora, Ethan was in a foul mood. When Katelyn returned, he had little appetite left. “Are finished eating?” he asked.

Katelyn, feeling deflated, nodded. “Yeah.” 

Well, then let’s get going.” For some reason, Ethan suddenly seemed disinterested in Katelyn. 

Lenora had been like a thorn in his side, but she was the kind of thorn that belonged to a real rose. 

Katelyn, on the other hand, sparked no sense of conquest in him.

Oblivious to Ethan’s thoughts, Katelyn knew the Sheppard family needed significant funding, and she had to keep him on her side. 

Ethan settled the bill and decisively stated, “I have something to attend to this afternoon, so let’s call it a day.” 

Katelyn noticed the abrupt shift in his demeanor and felt a chill run through her. “Oh? Then maybe we can—” 

“Oh, I have plans for the next few days too. Let’s reconnect later. You can head back by yourself. I won’t walk you out,” Ethan said coldly. 

He glanced at Katelyn one more time, his mind drifting back to Lenora’s radiant face in the sunlight, making Katelyn seem all the more ordinary. 

“Ethan, you-” Katelyn was stunned. She had only wanted to snap a few pictures to send to Harley and hadn’t expected Ethan to fall for Lenora. 

Katelyn was completely stunned. She just wanted to snap a few photos to send to Harley, hoping to make him misunderstood. She never thought Ethan would actually fall for Lenora! 

Lenora stepped out of the restaurant feeling completely refreshed. It had been a while since she’d let loose like that, but Katelyn’s pathetic attempts at a fight left her with hardly any sense of accomplishment. 

Pulling out her car keys to unlock her vehicle, she decided to head home to watch a movie before hitting the gym later in the afternoon. 

Her life was just that simple and unadorned.
