Chapter 44
Lenora glanced at the oversized bouquet of roses in her hands, frowning slightly. With no trash can nearby, she reluctantly held onto them.
She raised an eyebrow as she looked at Harley standing before her. “What brings you here?”
Harley’s gaze landed on the flowers, and he felt a pang of irritation. When he looked back up, his stare met her eyes–clear and distant.
He swallowed, his voice even colder than her expression. “I need to talk to you.“.
This answer caught. Lenora off guard. She turned, opened her car door, placed the roses on the passenger seat, and shut the door. Then she looked back at him. “What’s it?”
“Let’s talk inside.” Harley stepped aside, signaling for her to drive in, so he could follow.
But Lenora didn’t budge. She gave him a dismissive glance. “Not necessary. Say what you came to say right here.”
She paused, a small, amused smile playing on her lips. “There are plenty of eyes on me these days. Who knows, there might be someone with a camera on us right now. I’m guessing you wouldn’t want to see us trending tomorrow, right, Mr. Brandt?”
Harley felt a wave of frustration but kept his expression impassive. “About Carla–I’ve told her to publicly apologize. Now drop the lawsuit.”
Lenora chuckled, but there was no warmth in it. “Is that all?”
“Yeah,” he replied, though there was more behind his visit.
After leaving the office, Matthew’s words had somehow led him here.
Before Ethan arrived, his car was already parked outside Lenora’s villa.
He wasn’t even sure why he was there, nor had he considered letting Lenora know about his arrival.
But here he was, impulsively stepping out of the car when he saw Ethan.
And now that she’d asked what he wanted, this was all he could come up with.
Lenora nodded, then casually threw out a sentence that felt like a slap. “Harley, you have no shame.”
He stiffened. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“If you have, you wouldn’t be here talking about this.” Her gaze was cold and unyielding. “I remember the day we divorced, I warned you to keep your people in check. You cross me again, and there’ll be consequences.”
Harley, who had never been spoken to like this, watched as she returned to her car and drove into her property.
He stood there, fuming, as the gates closed.
When Devon called, Harley immediately hung up.
But Devon, undeterred, called again and again until Harley couldn’t take it anymore. “You better have a good reason,” Harley snapped.
“Actually, I have,” Devon replied.
“Spill it!” Harley barked.

Chapter 44
“Katelyn’s drunk and surrounded by a group. Are you going to step in or not?” Devon asked.
Harley scoffed. “Not my concern.”
With that, he ended the call.
In the bar, Devon watched Katelyn from a distance, ignoring her as she tried to catch his attention.

Nearby, Katelyn kept her eyes on Devon, having deliberately greeted him before the group surrounded her, hoping he could relay a message to Harley.

After Ethan’s blunt words yesterday, she realized she couldn’t rely on him anymore. Now, she had to find a way to forge a connection with Harley to secure a loan for her company.
Just as she expected, Devon did indeed make a call to Harley.
Katelyn let out a small sigh of relief, but then she saw Devon hang up the phone, glance her way, and then look completely ignoring her.
Her expression darkened as she pushed the man in front of her away.
Landon Mitchell, who had been feeling confident, was furious at the shove.
away,
When Katelyn tried to leave, he grabbed her wrist. “Where do you think you’re going? I’ll come with you,” he insisted.
Katelyn’s face went pale as she struggled against his grip, but Landon held tight.
The other men nearby began whistling and shouting something she couldn’t quite catch.
She realized these guys were trouble, and if Harley showed up, she might still have a chance to implement her plan.
But now, it was clear Harley wasn’t coming, and panic began to set in.
She stole a glance back at Devon and bit her lip. “I need to go to the restroom,” she managed to say.
Landon finally released her. “Okay, I’ll go with you,” he replied.
Katelyn nodded and forced a smile, hoping to ease his suspicions.
They walked toward the restroom, and as they reached the bar, Katelyn called out, “Mr. Valentine, what a surprise to see you here!” She paused, acting casual.
Landon beside her suddenly stiffened, glancing between Katelyn and Devon before deciding to back off.
He knew he couldn’t mess with Devon.
Devon looked at Katelyn with a hint of disdain. “Quite a coincidence, Miss Sheppard. Your nightlife seems rather exciting.” he said, his tone sharp.
Katelyn froze, unable to respond. All she could do was offer an awkward smile.
She knew Devon had seen through her, and arguing with him could sour his mood–jeopardizing her chance to leave with
him.
Feeling bored, Devon took a sip of his drink and then shared a look with Orlando. They both got up to leave.
Katelyn trailed behind, catching up to Orlando. “Mr. Milton, I didn’t drive tonight. Could you give me a ride home?” she

asked, trying to sound casual,
She flipped her hair and added, “By the way, I still need to return Chloe’s camera.”
She figured most guys wouldn’t turn down such a request.
But Orlando merely glanced at her and replied flatly, “No way,” before heading to his car.
He didn’t even bother to explain. After exchanging a glance with Devon, he walked straight to his car.
Katelyn was momentarily stunned. When she looked up at Devon, it felt like a slap to the face.
“So do I,” Devon said before she could say anything, rolling the car key in his hand as he waited for the driver.
Katelyn clenched her jaw, her face flushing with anger.
