Chapter 47
Lenora had been enjoying a peaceful time lately. She wasn’t sure if it was the warning she had given Katelyn a few days ago or if Isaac had talked to Katelyn, but her life had been calm for a while.
Before she knew it, four or five days had passed, and the Stellar Awards Gala Cassidy had mentioned was approaching.
Early in the morning, Cassidy called to tell her that someone would come over in the afternoon to do her makeup, insisting that she had to look stunning.
Lenora held her phone, a mix of annoyance and laughter bubbling inside her.
Cassie, are you asking for trouble or what?”
“Hey, I’m just doing this for you!” Cassidy, always a bit of a troublemaker, hung up the call abruptly.
Lenora felt a surge of frustration but decided to take a few deep breaths to calm down.
Around three in the afternoon, just as Lenora was waking up from a nap, the doorbell rang.
Still, in her slippers, she groggily made her way downstairs and was surprised to find five or six people waiting at her door. “Did Cassidy send you?” she asked.
“Yes, Ms. Maynard,” they replied.
Rubbing her temples, Lenora said, “Come on in.”
She had no idea where Cassidy had found these people, but after being fussed over for three hours, she was finally ready to leave.
Aside from her wedding day, she had never had such elaborate makeup.
Her features were already striking, especially her alluring eyes. The makeup artist had opted for a natural look, emphasizing her beauty without being too heavy–handed.
The invitation was with Cassidy, so Lenora needed to meet up with her first.
A car had been sent for her, so she didn’t have to worry
about driving.
By six in the evening, it was already dark outside. Sitting in the back seat, Lenora glanced out the window as Cassidy texted to ask where she was.
Not really sure herself, she sent her location.
Five minutes later, the car came to a stop.
Linda approached from a nearby vehicle. “Ms. Maynard, Cassidy is inside.”
Lenora lifted her skirt slightly and smiled at Linda. “What’s the big deal about tonight’s gala? Cassidy seems really on edge.”
Linda sighed and quickly filled her in on Cassidy’s earlier conflict with Winifred.
Raising an eyebrow, Lenora asked, “What kind of background does Winifred have?”
Linda hesitated for a moment before saying, “Well, Ms. Maynard, Winifred has some powerful connections. We should be
careful-”
Lenora smiled knowingly. “Linda, after all these years, you should know I’m always protective of my friends.”
‘Anyone who tries to bully my people better watch out,‘ she thought.

Linda chuckled, “I wish I hadn’t said anything.”
Lenora smirked. “But you did.”
Reluctantly, Linda revealed a name, “Mortimer Milton.”
Lenora nodded. “That makes sense.”
Mortimer was Orlando’s cousin, so Winifred indeed had some serious backing.

They had arrived at the vehicle, and Linda opened the door. Just as Lenora climbed in, Cassidy wrapped her arms around her. “Fairy! You look amazing! Let me kiss you!”
Lenora pushed her gently away. “Don’t ruin my makeup; it took over two hours to do!”
Cassidy, realizing her mistake, stepped back and admired Lenora. “I just want to know, with a goddess like you, whi fool wouldn’t want you?”
Leaning back, Lenora sighed. “Harley.”
It had been over six months since their divorce, and Lenora was surprised at how easily she could joke about it now.
Yeah, he’s not worth my time,‘ she thought.
Cassidy blinked and gave her a thumbs up. “Wow! You can even poke fun at yourself!”
Lenora smiled. “It’s not too bad.”
As the car started moving, Cassidy shared a bunch of the nasty things Winifred had done.

Lenora hadn’t paid much attention to industry gossip and her company in recent years since she had been so focused on Harley.
Cassidy hadn’t bothered her with those details because she knew Lenora had enough on her plate..
Now that Lenora was out of that mess, Cassidy felt comfortable sharing those stories with her as if they were jokes..
But Lenora’s focus was clearly different. “So, are you saying she’s taken two lead roles, three ad campaigns, and a film from you?”
Cassidy fell silent, realizing she sounded worse off than Lenora.
Clearing her throat, she said, “But I’ve also snatched quite a few resources from her.”
“Oh really? How many?” Lenora asked.
“Well, there was that movie, Dual Tracks!” Cassidy replied.
With a teasing smile, Lenora raised an eyebrow. “Anything else?”
“N–no, that’s it,” Cassidy mumbled.
Lenora laughed. “Don’t worry; I’ll help you get it back.”
Cassidy paused for a moment, then exclaimed, “Nora, please accept my love!”
“And what about Dashnell?” Lenora countered.
Cassidy fell silent again.

As they chatted, the car quickly arrived at the port.
This gala
was a big deal, held on a massive cruise ship, so there was no way
to
get
in without an invitation.

Lenora and Cassidy handed over their invites as they boarded the yacht and spotted Aran and Emory from a distance.
Anthony and Doug had gone to a training camp, so Cassidy hadn’t invited them along.
“Cassidy! Lenora!” Aran and Emory approached, their eyes moving from Cassidy to Lenora.
Cassidy had attended countless glamorous events over the years, while it was Lenora’s first time dressing up for such an occasion.
Lenora was already striking in her everyday appearance, but in her custom gown, she stood out among the sea of other stars.
Aran’s heart raced. “Lenora, you look stunning tonight.”
Cassidy shot Aran a glance. “What? Am I not beautiful?”
“Do I really need to add to the compliments you already get?” Aran chuckled.
“Of course you do!” Cassidy shot back.
Emory, more reserved, simply greeted them, clearly trying to avoid getting caught in Cassidy’s questions, while praising both women.
Just as they were enjoying their conversation, Winifred, Cassidy’s rival, arrived.
Winifred wore a stunning, floor–length red dress that immediately drew attention. However, her features couldn’t quite match the boldness of the outfit, giving her an air of forced elegance.
Winifred couldn’t shake off Cassidy’s recent jab about her looks–she’d said Winifred wasn’t even worthy of helping Lenora with her shoes. As soon as she entered the venue, her eyes instinctively searched for Cassidy.
Dressed in a stunning black gown, Cassidy looked elegant and regal, exuding a confident aura.
Winifred scoffed, about to strut over, but then her gaze landed on the unfamiliar girl standing next to Cassidy.
Frowning, she turned to her manager and asked, “Who’s that girl next to Cassidy? A newcomer? I’ve never seen her before.”
Her manager looked surprised as well. “I haven’t heard of her either.”
“Then go find out who she is!” Winifred commanded, marching over.
Cassidy was ready for this moment and greeted Winifred with a businesslike smile. “Winifred, long time no see.”
“Indeed, long time no see. And who’s this with you?” Winifred asked.
Lenora raised an eyebrow at the imposing Winifred. “Hello, Ms. Martin. I’m the Lenora you described–ugly, useless, and destined to be discarded.”
