Johnson added behind me.
I didn’t answer. I didn’t even slow down
Out of the ballroom, through the lobby, straight onto the street
I didn’t look back once.
The driver wasn’t around, so I just kept walking.
I passed a trash can, took off my red bottom heels, and tossed them in.
The moment my bare feet hit the pavement, I felt something break free.

“How long does it take to make one damn bouquet?”
“People are waiting, you know.”
I actually laughed. Then I said,
“I never said I’d make it.”

Then he let out a bitter laugh.
