Chapter 1
I’ve suffered from emotional indifference disorder since I was a child.
I’ve never been close to anyone–except for Aaron Green.
When I was mocked, he went crazy and fought for me. When I was bullied, he was fierce in seeking justice for me.
To repay him for his kindness, I worked hard to overcome my condition.
On the day I was cured, I excitedly ran to the bar to find him, wanting to share the good news with him
first.
But the Aaron who used to pamper me seemed like a different person.
His cold voice mocked, “You’re nothing more than the daughter of a murderer. You are just for us to play with.”
“…And that silly look of hers, probably even in bed she’s like a dead fish. You’d better not complain about the bad luck.”
My blood turned cold in an instant, and tears streamed down my face before I even realized it.
The door was suddenly pushed open, and my numb figure appeared in front of everyone.
Aaron was holding the woman who had once bullied me, smiling provocatively at me.
He waved at me. “Silas Palmer, come over.”
Without thinking, I took a few steps forward. Harper Fox suddenly raised her hand and threw a glass of red wine at my feet. The red liquid splashed everywhere.
The glass shards cut my calf, and blood began to drip down.
Harper chuckled. “Aaron, how about making this little fool lick the floor clean, and then crawl over here to wipe my shoes?”
The suffocating feeling of being bullied again hit me like a wave. I could barely breathe.
Then, I heard Aaron lazily speak, “Silas, didn’t you hear what Harper said? Why aren’t you doing it?”

I stood still, staring directly at Aaron.
Aaron gave a look to someone nearby, and I was kicked from behind.
I fell to the ground with a thud, and then he yanked my hair, pressing my head forcefully to the floor.
“Little fool, don’t understand what Aaron said? We don’t mind helping you.”
With my scalp being pulled, my face was drenched in red wine. The bitter taste made it hard to keep my
eyes open.
I was dragged like a dog by my hair, my body trembling with pain.
It wasn’t until I heard a cold laugh from above that I was forced to lift my head.
The next second, Harper slapped me across the face.
The ring on her finger cut into my skin, and for a moment, my brain went blank, allowing her to trample
on me at will.
“Aaron, is she this unwilling to submit? Does she want to be like her father, the murderer?” Harper
snuggled into Aaron’s arms.
Aaron pulled out a tissue, casually wiping the liquid off my face.
His voice was like a devil’s. “So, what do you want to do?”
“How about we play a game where she barks like a dog?” Harper said excitedly.
My mind went blank.
Childhood memories flooded back to me–my father had just gone into debt for gambling, owed over a million, and in a crazed state, he stabbed my mother to death and then jumped off a building.
I had been playing downstairs, witnessing my mother’s lifeless body with her eyes wide open in front of
- me.
The children in the neighborhood, after hearing about my family, would force my head into the dirt every day, repeatedly making me bark like a dog.
My body trembled, but my eyes desperately looked at Aaron.
He, too, was looking at me, his eyes filled with unsaid words. “Silas, do you have anything to say?”

The overwhelming psychological pressure made my lips tremble, but no words came out.
The next moment, Aaron suddenly grew angry. He slammed my head onto the table and growled, “Silas, I told you to speak!”
The red wine soaked my hair, making it sticky and uncomfortable.
“Don’t want to speak? Then bark like a dog!”
“Bark, huh? Did you go mute?”
Tears dropped onto the table, and for the first time, I experienced the suffocating feeling of heartache.
If… if I were still a monster who couldn’t feel any emotions, this would never have happened. Then I wouldn’t have desperately tried to recover when I found out Aaron had secretly loved me.
“I told you to bark like a dog!”
“You’re just a fool, not mute, do you understand?” Aaron yanked my hair even harder.
The pain made me give up all my dignity. Instinctively, I let out a weak, almost inaudible “Woof.”
Laughter echoed all around.
Only Aaron’s gaze was fixed on me, his eyes bloodshot, filled with emotions that seemed ready to swallow
me whole.
He released me like I was trash. “Get out!”
I didn’t know how I got home. I only remember walking down the road like a ghost. It wasn’t long before a heavy rain began to pour.
Aaron didn’t come back that night.
No explanation, no word of comfort–just as if the person who had stayed by my bedside when I had a
fever not long ago wasn’t him.
The next morning, I woke up with a headache, rubbing my temples. My forehead felt a little hot.
Suddenly, the phone rang–it was Aaron.
A faint hope rose in my chest. Yesterday’s events must have been a misunderstanding. He wouldn’t do that to me.

Silas Aaron’s voice was gentle. “Bring the bracelet I gave you and come find me on the rooftop.”
The bracelet.
That bracelet was a family heirloom passed down through generations of the Green family to their daughters–in–law. He must be apologizing for yesterday.
Without changing my clothes, I ran toward the rooftop in my slippers, forgetting completely that I was afraid of heights.
Aaron was standing on the rooftop, smoking.
Hearing my footsteps, he turned around and waved at me. When I reached him, he gently stroked my
face.
He smiled softly. “Silas, don’t blame me.”
The next second, he grabbed the back of my neck and forced me against the railing, at a terrifying height
that made me feel nauseous.
But he just smiled.
He untied his suit’s tie and wrapped it around my hands, fastening them to the railing. “Silas, I’ll come for you in ten minutes.”
The door to the rooftop slammed shut, and my pupils contracted.
“Silas, I’m sorry, if there’s a next life, I’ll make it up to you.”
“Silas… Silas…”
My father’s bloodied body from when he died in front of me replayed in my mind again and again. I struggled, but the tie only tightened the more I moved.
