Dr. Smith patted him on the shoulder. “Congratulations, Mr. Green, your wish has come true. Don’t forget to invite me to the wedding.”
After the doctor left, Aaron stood there, stunned for a few minutes.
“It’s impossible!”
“This isn’t true!!!”
“How could Silas not tell me?!”
Aaron muttered to himself, almost out of his mind.
“Silas! Pick up the phone!” He kept calling my number.
But what he didn’t know was that I had already blocked every way he could contact me.
After several unanswered calls, he staggered out.
I, on the other hand, slipped out through the side door and took a taxi to the airport.
No more meetings, Aaron.

I nodded, feeling a little nervous.

I stayed in there, while Archie stayed in the room next to mine.
The death of Lascas became an unforgettable nightmare. In the dead of night, I would dream of it calling out to me, as though asking why I didn’t come back sooner.
The thick curtains blocked out the sunlight, and I slept day and night.
Until Archie suddenly pulled open the curtains, arrogantly crossing his arms as he looked at me, “I told you, Miss Palmer, if you keep sleeping. I’ll have to call the police.”
He casually grabbed my hand and forced me to sit at the vanity to do my makeup, then dragged me downstairs to the park to feed pigeons.
Having fun for an entire day, I was a little exhausted as I leaned against the railing.
He bought me an ice cream and shoved it into my hand. “Silas, if you don’t come out and see the sun, you’ll never know how bright it is today.”
The glaring sunlight hit me, and I suddenly squatted down, crying uncontrollably.
Since the day I left, I hadn’t shed a single tear, as if a heavy stone was pressing down on my heart, making
it hard to breathe.
Archie Gibson crouched down beside me, silently comforting me by patting my back.
Since that day, whenever there was time, he would drag me out to have fun. More and more books and toys filled my room, as if he had made up his mind to keep me busy.
Half a year passed.
I gradually began to emerge from the shadow and even started to enjoy the time I spent staring out the balcony, writing some works.
Until one day, I suddenly received a phone call from abroad.
For some reason, I answered the call.
The familiar voice of Aaron came through, as if he was crying, gasping for air. “Silas, Silas, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
I didn’t say anything.

His breathing became more labored. “Silas, can you come back? Please, don’t ignore me.”
“I didn’t know she would hurt Lucas. I never meant to hurt you, I just…”
“Aaron.” I interrupted him. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”
His apology, though late, wasn’t really an apology.
I no longer needed it.
“Silas…” His voice cracked, as if holding back overwhelming sadness.
I hung up the phone.
The next day, as I was leaving the Gibson family home, I saw Aaron, looking disheveled and exhausted.
His eyes were bloodshot, his face gaunt, and his clothes wrinkled, as if he hadn’t taken care of himself in a long time.
In just half a year, it felt like an entire lifetime had passed.
When he saw me, he seemed hesitant, walking slowly toward me and taking my hand. “Silas, long time
no see.”
I pulled my hand away.
He froze for a moment before starting to explain. “Silas, let me explain!”
“I never intended to hurt you. I only listened to Harper’s advice. She said if I could provoke your anger, your emotions would stir, and then you’d realize how I feel about you.”
I stood there, stunned. I never imagined the reason behind it would be this.
How good was Aaron to me back then?
So good that when I realized he liked me, my first reaction was to get better and respond to him, so that he wouldn’t be hurt.
“Silas, I can’t lose you again.”
He pulled me into his arms, and tears fell heavily on my neck.
Since I could remember, I had only seen Aaron cry once.
