“Silas, you bitch, why are you still alive?”
I couldn’t dodge in time, and it felt like my body was frozen. I watched helplessly as the knife plunged into Aaron’s chest.
Harper hadn’t expected it to be him.
But she had no intention of letting him go, and forcefully pushed the knife deeper.
Blood spurted out, blurring my vision. My legs gave way, and I had to hold Aaron up.
Harper laughed through her tears, “Silas, I’ve been secretly in love with Aaron for almost ten years. Every day, I tried to get closer to him. In high school, I studied hard to follow him, in university, I applied to the
same school.”
“We were in the same major, but he always stayed by your side, constantly playing the role of your protector. I really hate you, Palmer Harper.”
“Why! Why!”
The knife fell to the ground, and Harper collapsed to her knees.
“Ten years, ten years! Why won’t Aaron even glance at me? I thought I was finally getting him, but he hated me, he wouldn’t even touch me.”
“You left, and all the blame fell on me, why…”
Police cars and ambulances arrived at the same time.
Harper was sentenced to ten years.
Aaron had already passed out.
I stayed with him and went to the hospital. The knife had stopped just before it hit his heart, and he was temporarily saved.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
That night, I stayed at a nearby hotel.

The next morning, when I woke up, it was snowing for the first time in Austin. The ground was blanketed in white, and there was an odd trail of cat paw prints in the snow.
I followed the prints and walked all the way to the Green family estate.
A tabby cat was lying in front of a tombstone, meowing nonstop. My eyes welled up, and I walked over to gently stroke its head.
I whispered, “Lucas, is that you?”
The cat meowed in response.
Tears immediately flooded my eyes.
I took the tabby cat to get vaccinated and brought it back to the hotel with me.
Fate had returned what I had lost, and I no longer had any complaints.
That evening, Aaron left the hospital against the doctor’s orders. He kneeled in the snow and called me, apologizing. It was cold outside, and he was sobbing uncontrollably.
“Silas, before I die, I finally realize what I did to you. Even if it was revenge, I can never truly understand
your pain. I’m so sorry, Silas.”
“From now on, you’ll have to walk your own path. We’ve lost our way.”
I stood by the window, watching as Aaron knelt in the snow, clutching the diary in his hands, as if it was
his only hope.
I lowered my gaze and said, “Go back, Aaron.”
He didn’t hear me.
He knelt there the whole night.
As dawn broke, he was rescued by a kind passerby. I heard that he had fallen unconscious, but no one could pry the diary and bracelet from his hands.
The morning light was faint.
I left once again.
But this time, I wasn’t alone. I had the tabby cat that fate had led to me.

Archie took over the vast Gibson family business, and the head of the family’s only request was for him to marry me, and for most of the family’s assets to be transferred to me.
1couldn’t help but laugh.
At the same time, I felt deeply touched.
This man, who had dominated the business world for a lifetime, had truly loved my mother, and even extended that love to me.
Archie hugged my shoulders and laughed, “Why does everything good in the world seem to fall to me?”
I smiled without speaking, my head resting on his chest, though my eyes were a bit moist.
Archie gently scratched the cat’s chin and said, “Little babe, if you let your little mama marry me, would you let me be your daddy?”
The little cat comfortably tilted its head and closed its eyes.
Without the Gibson family, without Archie, I would probably still be trapped in pain, unable to live or die.
Thankfully, everything was in the past.
In July, Archie proposed to me. Our wedding was grand and elaborate, almost as if we wanted to announce it to the entire world.
The head of the Gibson family’s eyes were red as he repeatedly patted Archie’s shoulder.
“Don’t let Silas suffer.”
Though I didn’t know the details of their relationship with my mother, my gratitude toward him could never be repaid in this lifetime.
I could only live a life full of happiness in return.
Meanwhile, I received a news notification on my phone.
“A man died in a nightclub accident. He was holding his lover’s diary tightly in his hand.”
During bungee jumping, Aaron had cut the rope himself, and he died on the day of my wedding.

I looked out at the sky and suddenly remembered the young boy who had held my hand and sworn, “Silas, Aaron will always stay by your side. If I break this vow, I will die without a good death.”

Now, they were dust, and the old days were gone.
Archie held me from behind and said gently, “Silas, happy wedding.”
