We were about to head to the ultrasound room when we saw Anna coming out.
Ashley was waiting at the door and didn’t see us. He looked at Anna with eager anticipation and asked, “How’s my son?”
He was holding Anna’s waist, clearly concerned despite there being no visible sign of pregnancy yet.
“It’s only been a few days, and you already know it’s a son?” Anna asked, her smile beaming broadly.
“I don’t care. You must bear me a son. It’s my only chance at home.”
Before he could finish, Sadie’s shrill, furious voice interrupted. “You b*tch!”
Sadie, seemingly appearing from nowhere, stormed up to Anna and slapped her hard across the face.
