The words seemed almost accusatory, as if they were aimed directly at her, accusing her of being an unfaithful wife.
But in her current state, sick and fragile, could she rely on anyone other than a doctor? Could she rely on her husband, who appeared indifferent to her suffering?
Shana found it hilarious. She tugged at her lips but couldn’t muster a smile. She had neither the energy
or the will to argue with him. So she pretended she hadn’t heard him.
Her hunger gnawed at her. She certainly wasn’t going to count on the sc*undrel for food, so she fumbled for her phone, picked it up, and began scrolling through for delivery options.
However, her actions were enough to make Henry think she was deliberately ignoring him. He snatched her phone away. His voice was cold and sharp, cutting through the silence above her head like ice. “Shana, after spending the entire night taking care of you, is this the attitude you’re giving me?”
He had been scheduled for two more days of business travel. But when Cyrus told him she had a high fever, was alone at home, and wasn’t answering her door, he canceled his remaining meetings and rushed back.
Henry didn’t get any rest. He spent the entire night watching over her without even closing his eyes. And this was the awful attitude she gave him?
The barrage of accusations instantly sparked a fire in Shana, which burned away any desire to remain calm.
She looked up at him, her pale face unable to hide the disappointment and resentment in her eyes. “Mr. Floyd, what kind of attitude do you want from me? Should I be grateful?
“Did I ask you to take care of me? Did I ask you to rush back? No, you didn’t have to. You could have ignored me, just like you’ve done before.”
Over the past three years, she had been sick more times than she could count. When you’re sick, you become vulnerable; when you’re vulnerable, you crave attention. You want your partner to be there.
Every single time she had fallen ill, she was the first to call him, begging him to come back and be with
her.
But what about him?
Either he dispatched a doctor due to his busy schedule, or within minutes of his return, he received another call. Sometimes, he didn’t even return her calls, leaving it up to Larry to dismiss her.
And then, at some point, she stopped asking him for help when she was sick.
She would either cope independently or arrange for Judy or Cheryl to transport her to the hospital. After a few days, she’d feel better.
Thinking back to all of this, Shana’s eyes welled up, though she hated how easily the tears came. There was no holding back her hurt in moments like these.
“Henry, what are you pretending to be now? A good husband?”
Her dark eyes locked on him, her voice low but sharp, every word a direct challenge.

Her throat was still sore, her voice weak, almost fragile, but the sting in her words left Henry speechles
His gaze shifted for a moment but quickly returned to its cold indifference. “You lied to me all those fines to get me back. How am I supposed to know when you’re telling the truth and when you’re lying?

Shana couldn’t argue with that.
She had indeed played the role of the simpleton for three years, pretending to be pitiful in order to win
is affection and to fight against Kate. She had used all those tricks.
But after just one or two attempts, he’d dismissed everything she said as a lie.
And Kate? No matter how many times she played the victim or lied, he willingly believed every word
That was the difference between love and indifference.
Shana was silent for a long moment. “So, this time, I don’t need you.”
And in the future? She certainly wouldn’t need him.
Even though Henry had already experienced her sharp tongue during this time, the sting of her words still hit him. He looked at her frail form and remembered how she had cried in pain last night in her dreams, and the anger in him was forced back down.
He clenched his fists and said coldly, “Shana, don’t forget who’s helping you.”
Shana really didn’t understand. She had begged him to come when she was sick, but he ignored her.
Now that the tables had turned and she wasn’t chasing him away, why was he still standing here, not slamming the door and walking away?
She fixed her gaze on his tightly pursed lips, and suddenly an idea crossed her mind. She said slowly, “Mr Floyd, is it because I’m not chasing after you anymore that you’re suddenly interested?”
Thinking it through, it seemed like the only explanation.
After all, men were complicated creatures. They showed no concern when you pursued them. But once you stopped, they couldn’t seem to leave you alone. It had nothing to do with love. It was all about pride and possessiveness.
Henry froze, his brow furrowing deeply, but he didn’t respond.
He neither confirmed nor denied it.
Shana smiled bitterly, her voice dripping with mockery. “Late affection is worthless. Besides, you don’t have affection–just that overbearing, arrogant attitude of yours.”
“Shana, watch your words!”
Henry pressed his tongue to the back of his teeth. He took a deep breath and tried to calm his rage. “I’ll let it slide because you’re sick.”
With that, he turned and strode out of the room.

Shana didn’t care whether he stayed or left. It was better if he left. But he took her phone with him, which sent her into a fit of anger. She yelled, “Are you trying to starve me to death? If I die, you won’t have to divide the assets, and you can just let the homewrecker take my place, right?”
Henry ignored her, his figure vanishing from the doorway.
Shana tried to get out of bed to chase him, but the moment her feet touched the floor, she crumpled weakly to the ground. All the pain, anger, and frustration she had been holding back exploded in that
instant.
Wears streamed down her face, unstoppable.
She curled up, crying uncontrollably, gasping for air.
Her parents had a love marriage. The two of them were deeply in love and shared a strong bond, always affectionate with each other. Growing up in such an environment, she naturally assumed that all marriages in the world were like theirs.
It wasn’t until she married Henry that she realized how tragic it was for a woman to choose the wrong person and marry the wrong man.
It was no surprise that a popular line from a recent TV show has gone viral online.
“Marry a man.
“You don’t get to choose your work, but you get to choose your husband, and you pick one as useless as this?”
Now, she completely resonated with it.
“What are you crying for? You scolded me, and now you’re playing the victim?” A voice full of disdain interrupted her thoughts.
Shana looked through her tear–filled eyes, only to see Henry standing there, holding a tray with a bowl of grits on it.
She froze for a moment.
Henry placed the tray on the nightstand, then bent down, one arm around her shoulder and the other under her legs, lifting her back onto the bed.
Seeing the tears on her face, he grabbed a tissue and, though not exactly gentle, wiped her face.
“Are you a child?”
Shana rolled her eyes, avoiding his hand. She wiped her own tears and nose with the tissue, her voiee hoarse from crying. “Weren’t you leaving?”
“What are you thinking?” Henry could no longer bear to witness her foolishness. “If you die here, I’ll be the prime suspect. And if you die while married to me, I’ll get a reputation as a wife–killer!”
She grumbled internally. Shut up, j*rk!
Seeing her still sobbing, Henry grew irritated. His black eyes fixed on her red–rimmed ones, and his mind involuntarily flashed back to when he’d pinned her down, teasing her relentlessly. She had always looked this enticing when he dominated her in bed.

His voice came out hoarse. “Shana, if you keep crying, I’ll kiss you.”
