Just moments ago, she had a fallout with that sc*mbag there was no way he would agree to accompany her back now.
However, even without today’s confrontation, Henry wouldn’t have gone with her. Every time she had asked before, his answer was always the same: he was busy.
Shana bit her lip, struggling to find an answer.
Audrey had lost her husband when she was young. Alone, she had gritted her teeth and raised her son. Shana’s father succeeded in his career and married a good wife. The couple had a beautiful, clever daughter. Audrey thought she could finally enjoy her golden years.
But then an unexpected accident stole the lives of both her son and daughter–in–law, The old had to bury the young, and at that moment, if it hadn’t been for her attachment to little Shana, she would have gone with them.
Over the years, her health had gradually declined, and the only thing she worried about was Shana. If Audrey left this world, what would happen to Shane? She would be all by herself.
Three years ago, Shana got married. She told Audrey she had married the man she loved. Audrey was overjoyed, thinking that her granddaughter finally had someone to rely on. She could rest easy, even if she herself was gone.
Yet the wedding never took place. Shana hadn’t brought Henry back to meet her.
She always told Audrey he was busy.
At first, Audrey had understood. Although she lived in the countryside, she had heard of the Floyd Group’s reputation. Henry, in his role as the CEO of Floyd Group, must be extremely busy.
But three years had passed, and he still hadn’t come. Audrey couldn’t help but feel uneasy. Was he really so busy that he couldn’t find any time? Or he simply didn’t care about Shana?
Shana’s silence made Audrey’s heart sink. She pressed, “Shana, tell me honestly. Is Henry treating you badly?”
Audrey’s astute observation surprised Shana. Her heart fell. She quickly refuted it, saying, “Of course not!” Don’t overthink it. Henry and I are doing fine.”
Recently, Audrey’s health checkup hadn’t gone well. She couldn’t handle stress, so Shana knew she couldn’t tell her the truth.
Taking a deep breath, Shana’s mind raced. She couldn’t brush it off this time. She had to come up with a -convincing excuse to ease Audrey’s doubts.
She bit her nails, lost in thought, when suddenly someone yanked her phone out of her hand. Startled, Shana looked up sharply.
Henry had taken the phone and put it in his ear, his voice deep and soothing. He introduced himself, “Audrey, this is Henry. Hello.”

Shana’s heart raced in panic. What was this se*mbag up to? Was he planning to expose her lies to Audrey as revenge for what had just happened?
“Give me my phone!”
She mouthed, dared not make a noise, as she rushed forward to snatch it.
If this se*mbag dared to upset Audrey, she would make sure they both went down together.
Henry, sensing her intention, raised the hand holding the phone out of her reach. No matter how high she jumped, she couldn’t reach it.
He was toying with her like a monkey in the circus, and it made her blood boil.
In a fit of rage, Shana decided to kill that sc*mbag.
She gave up on her attempt to grab the phone and instead viciously strangled his neck with both hands.
Henry looked down at her, his lips barely moving as he spoke slowly, “Audrey, I was too busy before; I apologize. This year, I will make time to accompany Shana back.”
The unexpected promise from him made Shana freeze
Henry ended the call, a smirk playing at his lips. “Mrs. Floyd, are you planning to kill your husband?”
Shana’s anger dissipated in an instant, replaced by a forced smile. “Of course not. I was just giving Mr. Floyd here a neck massage. Don’t worry, it’s free.”
“Will this massage send me to meet the Grim Reaper?” He teased.
Shana had no words.
She silently reached for her phone and put it on charge. She suddenly remembered something and looked up at him. “You really want to accompany me back?”
No matter how much she pouted, begged, or even threw tantrums each year, he never relented. And now he was voluntarily agreeing? Something about it felt off.
Was he just pretending to agree now, only to back out at the last minute and leave Audrey disappointed? Henry furrowed his brow and asked, “Isn’t it you who wanted me to accompany you back?”
“Well, yes, I did before,” Shana admitted honestly. But this year, I no longer feel the need to do so. Considering our imminent divorce, Audrey doesn’t need to meet you.
Something prickled Henry’s heart. Henry instinctively pressed his lips together and said, “I wanted to go earlier, but I was just busy at the time.”
Shana doesn’t want to laugh, but his excuses were so ridiculous she couldn’t hold back.
It was a flimsy lie–he would have been better off not saying anything.
Her voice was calm as she replied, “Well, that’s really quite the coincidence.”

Henry felt a wave of inexplicable irritation when he saw the expression on her face, as if she was challenging him to keep making up stories. If they kept talking, it was bound to end badly.
Henry turned his eyes away and said, “Since I’ve agreed, I will definitely accompany you back this year?
Shana studied him carefully.
But his face remained stoic, his dark eyes like pools of ink. She could never read him.
“Send the time and location to Larry. He’ll arrange everything”
After that, Henry walked out with long strides.
Every year on her parents‘ memorial days, Shana would return for a week and spend some time with Audrey. Audrey was getting older, and her health was failing. To be blunt, her time was running out; there were fewer chances for them to see each other.
Shana had always wanted to bring Audrey to live in the city so she could take better care of her, but Audrey refused. She didn’t want to be a burden on Shana and feared the family might gossip. Moreover, she had grown accustomed to the rural lifestyle.
The house in the countryside had been left to Audrey by her late husband, full of the most precious memories. Her neighbors and friends were all nearby, and she couldn’t bring herself to leave.
So Shana gave up on that idea. She hired a relative to look after Audrey and made sure to call her often, visiting whenever she had the time.
After packing her suitcase, Shana’s phone buzzed a few times.
She picked it up from the nightstand. One message was about her flight details–her flight was booked for 10 AM the next day.
The other was a WhatsApp message from Larry.
Larry wrote, “Mrs. Floyd, Mr. Floyd has an international meeting tonight and won’t be coming home. He asked me to let you know that he will pick you up at 8 AM tomorrow to go to the airport.”
Shana sent a ‘thumbs up‘ emoji in reply.
Just as she was about to put her phone down, she paused and drafted an email.
Although her work was flexible when there were no tasks, it was customary to inform Alex and ask for time off.
“Alex, I’d like to take seven days off to visit my parents‘ graves. But don’t worry; when I’m back, I’ll work even harder. Whatever tasks you give me, I’ll finish them!”
Alex replied instantly, “Sure.”
Shana sighed in relief.
She expected Alex to be upset, given that she had just returned to work and was now requesting time off

again. But her boss was truly the best!
The next day.
Shana looked up at the antique clock hanging on the wall. The time read exactly 8 AM.
And yet, Henry was still nowhere to be seen.
