A faint shadow of disappointment flickered in Shana’s eyes, almost imperceptible, but she quickly pushed it aside. She asked in surprise, “Dr. Grant, what are you doing here?”
“We doctors have regular outreach programs in rural areas. I happened to have some free time these past few days, so I applied to come,” Cyrus replied.
His gaze, gentle and warm, lingered on her bare face. Her pale skin looked soft enough to break with a touch, like an angel who accidently wandered into the mortal world.
“I didn’t expect to run into you here,” he said.
Shana smiled slightly and said, “Yeah, life really does have a way of bringing people together, doesn’t it?” She quickly added, “I’m here to visit my parents‘ graves
“I see,” Cyrus said softly.
An awkward silence fell between them. Shana, without intending to, found her mind drifting back to that night. Her unease grew, and she became tense all over.
She had tried to piece together what had happened between her and Cyrus that evening, but all she could recall were broken fragments, hazy memories that just wouldn’t come together.
Still, with her less–than–stellar history, she couldn’t exactly comfort herself by claiming nothing had happened.
After avoiding it for so long, Shana took a deep breath and decided to face it.
“Dr. Grant, I–I drank too much that night, and I’m sure I caused you a lot of trouble. Thank you, and I’m sorry.”
She stammered, silently vowing that alcohol was definitely not something she needed in her life anymore. She was staying far away from it from now on.
But Cyrus shook his head. He said, “Not really. You were actually very well–behaved once you got drunk.”
“Huh?”
Shana’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she pointed to herself. “Are you sure you’re talking about me?”
“Mmm.” Cyrus nodded firmly.
Shana stared at him, completely taken aback.
She couldn’t help but marvel that he really was a good person–so considerate that he would even tell a little white lie just to spare her the embarrassment.
Suddenly, she recalled how Henry had described her when she’d gotten drunk that night.
Not only had he called her a rabid dog, but he’d also scolded her for drinking recklessly, warning her that

It had been so long since anyone had treated her with such gentleness. A wave of emotion made her nose tingle.
Audrey entered the house. When she realized Shana hadn’t followed, she turned around and looked for her. She had only given Shana a light reprimand, and couldn’t really stay mad at her.
But as soon as she stepped outside, she saw Shana having a conversation with a young man. He looked refined and elegant–clearly someone from the city.
Her eyes, dull just a moment ago, suddenly sparkled.
“Shana! Your husband has come with you! You little trickster, were you just teasing me earlier?” Audrey exclaimed.
Shana hadn’t expected Audrey to come back and certainly didn’t expect her to mistake Cyrus for Henry.
This was a huge misunderstanding.
She hurriedly tried to explain, “Grandma, he…”
”
But Cyrus interrupted her, calmly speaking, “Hello, nice to meet you.”
Shana was startled.
Was he claiming the identity as her husband on his own?
Audrey walked over, eyeing Cyrus up and down, growing more and more pleased. She couldn’t help but shower him with praise. “Henry, you really are a fine young man, full of elegance. Not bad at all.”
Soon, the neighbors started gathering around.
Mabel, a neighbor who was close with Audrey, leaned in without hesitation. She said, “Audrey, is that granddaughter’s husband? Wow, this young man is really handsome, even better looking than the celebrities on TV!”
your
She spent her time scrolling through short films of celebrities, but never expected Shana’s husband to be so striking. No wonder he was the heir to Portchester’s first–class family.
At first, Mabel had thought Audrey might be exaggerating.
However, upon meeting Cyrus face–to–face, her doubts vanished, and she joined in the compliments. Everyone started speaking at once. Audrey’s pride surged with satisfaction, resulting in a radiant smile.
She held Shana’s left hand and Cyrus’s right hand, proudly saying, “I told you, my granddaughter and her husband are a perfect match, made in heaven!”
While Audrey was basking in the glory, Shana, on the other hand, felt so awkward she wished she could vanish from the earth.
Every encounter with Cyrus seemed to turn into either an awkward moment or an even more awkward
one.

However, the situation had already escalated, and she was unable to provide an explanation in front of everyone. Audrey would probably have a heart attack if she did.
Shana could only glance at Cyrus with an apologetic look, silently conveying her regret.
Cyrus, seemingly understanding, returned her gentle smile and silently mouthed to her.
“It’s fine, just use me however you like.”
After a while, the crowd finally dispersed. Shana and Cyrus helped Audrey back into the house,
Audrey asked Grace, her caregiver, to bring out her treasured devil root tea while she entertained Henry.
Today was truly a day for her to feel proud.
Shana felt like she wanted to sink into the ground with embarrassment. Although Cyrus didn’t mind, she couldn’t let this misunderstanding continue any longer.
She had been thinking about how to explain things to Audrey, but before she could, Audrey had already dragged Cyrus to sit down, eagerly bombarding him with questions.
Before long, she even asked how many times he went to the bathroom in a day.
Shana was mortified and couldn’t bear it anymore. She plopped down next to Audrey, grabbed her shoulders, and turned her to face her, raising her voice slightly. “Audrey, actually, he … ”
The doorbell rang suddenly.
Shana’s words stopped. Audrey, puzzled, asked, “Who is it?”
Though everyone liked to pop in unannounced, they all knew that Audrey’s granddaughter and her husband were home today, so no one was expecting any visitors.
“I’ll get the door.”
Cyrus started to rise, but Grace placed the tea before him. She stopped him with a smile, “Henry, please sit. I’ll handle it. It’s probably just some nosy neighbors!
When Grace left, Shana was about to speak again, but Grace rushed back into the room before she could.
“What happened?” Audrey asked, confused.
Grace looked at Shana and said sheepishly, “Shana, there’s a man outside. He says he’s your husband. Why would you have two husbands?”
She barely dared to look at Cyrus as she spoke.
Audrey was stunned.
Shana, too, was shocked. The only person who could call himself her husband was Henry.
He had arrived?
Audrey was waiting for Shana to explain, but Shana’s expression gave the wrong impression, causing

She glanced at Cyrus, then shook her head in disbelief she said, “Shana, you already have such a good husband. How could you find another one?”
“Yeah, I’d like to know too. You already have such a good husband; why find another one?”
A low, cold voice suddenly interrupted. A man with a powerful presence strode into the room. Unlike Cyrus’s gentle elegance, this man radiated an aura of authority, exuding an invisible pressure.
His gaze toward Shana was chilling, full of ice–cold intent.
