“Shana, I dare you to say another word!” Henry suddenly growled at her, his voice cold and commanding
Caught off guard, Shana’s heart raced. She instinctively clutched her chest. Why can’t she speak the truth?
Was he having his period, or was this guy just grumpy?
Lately, he seemed like a ticking time bomb, always on edge. She had no idea what was going on with him.
In this small town, where gossip spread faster than a wildfire, any argument between them would be the talk of the town, faster than swine flu could spread.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to steady her emotions. Then, in the calmest voice she could muster, she responded, “Mr. Floyd, this place is nothing like the bustling metropolis of Portchester. Can you try to make do?”
“No,” he snapped.
Shana was starting to lose her patience. This shop was already the best bridal boutique in town. What more did he want? Was he trying to nitpick every little thing?
For goodness‘ sake, she was the bride, and she wasn’t complaining. What was he, a grown man, acting so finicky about?
“So, what do you want then?” With darting eyes, she offered, “If you want to cancel the reception, I’ll agree to it. I’ll even pay for the cost of the banquet myself. Don’t worry, I’ll foot the bill.”
She figured that since their neighbors had already seen her bring a husband home, it would be enough to silence their prying mouths.
Henry glanced at her, and instantly, he knew exactly what was on her mind. Ignoring her, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
At six o’clock, Larry showed up at the venue with an entire styling team.
Shana widened her eyes in disbelief. She knew this team well–they were always in charge of her looks whenever she accompanied Henry to events or parties.
But to think they were flown in just for a small local reception.
Well, Mr. Floyd clearly needed everything to be top–tier.
Fine, let him play the high–and–mighty act if he wanted to.
Audrey and Grace were equally stunned at first, but once they recovered, they couldn’t be more thrilled. This clearly meant that Henry really valued Shana as his wife–he was willing to give her the best of everything.
The styling team didn’t just work on Shana’s look; they styled Audrey and Grace as well. Audrey, despite her age, couldn’t stop admiring herself in the mirror, constantly asking Grace if she looked good.
Shana couldn’t help but smile at the sight.

It suddenly hit her; maybe Henry’s antics weren’t all bad.

It had been a long time since she’d seen Audrey so happy, especially after the passing of her parents.
At eight o’clock, the reception officially began,
Audrey had originally planned only a few small tables, inviting close family and friends. But Henry, ever the showman, went ahead and rented out the entire hotel for the night. Anyone could come and eat for free.
Word spread quickly, and soon, many people showed up just to join in the excitement.
Henry was surprisingly cooperative. When it came time for him and Shana to go around and toast the guests, he usually wouldn’t bother to respond when big shots raised their glasses to him, but tonight, he drank every single toast, and not just a sip either–he drank the whole glass.
By the end of the night, he was visibly intoxicated and stumbled slightly. Larry struggled to help him back to his room.
Audrey was the happiest of all. She felt like everything had come full circle.
Everyone kept telling her how handsome Henry was, how rich, and how much he adored his wife. They told her Shana was so lucky and that she had married so well.
Audrey grabbed Shana’s hand, her smile crinkling the corners of her eyes. “Shana, I can leave you in Henry’s hand. From now on, I can trust that you and Henry will have a wonderful life together. If he’s busy, you’ll need to be understanding. Don’t throw tantrums–he’s such a good husband. You’ve got to hold on to him.”
Shana pursed her lips. Just yesterday, Audrey had been eyeing Cyrus. Audrey was initially disappointed when she discovered that Cyrus wasn’t her husband, but now she has become a full–fledged fan of Henry
That quick turnaround was comparable with rocket launching.
Shana couldn’t help but doubt that Henry’s little performance tonight might be some sort of ploy to win people’s favor. She was certain that everyone would blame her and say she was the problem if they ever divorced, but she lacked any proof.
She squeezed Audrey’s hand and said, “Okay, I understand.”
She said that, but in her heart, she didn’t believe it.
It wasn’t enough for her to just try to make things work with Henry, he had to want it too. And it was clear -he never had. The person he longed to spend his life with was never her.
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t hold on to him.
“Alright, I don’t need you here anymore. Go look after your husband. He’s had quite a bit to drink, he’ll feel awful,” Audrey waved her off.
Shana was reluctant. She mumbled, “Mr. Weaver is with him.”
Henry, when drunk, liked to stir up trouble–particularly with her.

He kept asking for this and that. As soon as he got a headache, his temper flared. If she showed any hint of neglect, his words would be cutting.
She had zero desire to cater to this rich, spoiled brat.
Audrey, irritated, snapped, “He’s your husband, not Mr. Weaver’s husband. Mr. Weaver’s had a long day too, he needs to rest.
“Or do you want me or Grace to look after Henry?”
With the conversation pushed this far, Shana sighed. “I’ll go, I’ll go.”
She rose, tucked Audrey in, and then left.
When Shana pushed open the door to the room, Larry was just stepping out. Upon seeing her, he brightened like he’d found a lifeline. “Mrs. Floyd, you’re back. Mr. Floyd’s all yours now. I’m off.”
Without waiting for her to speak, he shoved her into the room and quickly closed the door behind him.
Shana rolled her eyes. Her gaze slowly settled on the man sitting on the bed. In the dim light, his handsome face looked as flawless as ever–without a trace of the redness of someone who’d had too much to drink.
But he wasn’t sober; he was just the type to drink without showing it.
If he sat quietly and didn’t speak, no one would know how drunk he was.
She stood there, lost in thought, until he suddenly lifted his gaze to hers. His lips parted, and he lazily spoke, “Shana, I want water. Pour me some.”
Who did he think he was talking to?
He always had that insufferable tone.
She stood still. Henry’s brow furrowed deeply, clearly irritated. “I’ve done everything to cooperate with you tonight; it made you look good. You can’t even get me a glass of water.”
Shana had no intention of indulging him, but his actions today had genuinely made Audrey happy.
She turned and went to the kitchen to warm up some milk, returning to the room.
Sitting beside him on the bed, she handed him the milk. “Drink it, and then go to sleep.”
Henry glanced at it without taking it. His deep, intense eyes locked onto hers, his voice thick with the lazy drawl of someone who was drunk yet magnetic.
“Feed me.”
