Cyrus wrote, “I noticed a cut on your face earlier. I have some ointment here. I’ll bring it over in a bit.”
Shana froze for a moment, unconsciously touching the right side of her face.
She rarely did her nails because it was inconvenient for her work schedule, but last night, at a dinner, she opted for press–on nails. While slapping herself in frustration, she failed to notice a small cut on her skin.
She only discovered it this morning while washing up and had quickly covered it with some concealer. She hadn’t expected him to notice it. As expected, he was a doctor with an eye for detail.
Meanwhile, Henry had been so close to her just now and hadn’t noticed a thing. It felt almost ironic.
The differences between people were truly vast.
She shot Henry a cold glare.
He seemed to sense it, his dark eyes narrowing. “What’s with that look?”
She imagined herself glaring at a dog.
No, scratch that–calling him a dog would be an insult to dogs.
Shana didn’t respond. She turned her gaze away with a neutral expression and picked up her phone to reply.
“Cyrus, you’re thoughtful, but I’m heading back to Portchester today. I’m already on my way to the airport. Thanks for your kind offer.”
The reply came quickly. “So sudden? Did something happen? Didn’t you say you were staying for a week?”
Huh?
If Duncan really was sick, Cyrus would have known. So the fact that he was asking meant one thing: Duncan had urgently called them back for reasons other than health.
At that realization, Shana’s heart eased, and an involuntary smile of relief spread across her face.
Henry’s deep voice broke through, startling her. “Who are you chatting with? You’re grinning like an idiot.”
His words yanked her back to the present, and her smile faded instantly.
She thought to herself, Henry had made it this far in life without anyone killing him–now that was a miracle.
But she wasn’t interested in engaging with him. She quickly typed a short reply to Cyrus. “Duncan wants to
sec us.”
Cyrus responded almost immediately, without asking any more questions. “Safe travels.
Shana put the phone down, thinking to herself how balanced Cyrus was. His words were always just right, never pushing too far, making him an easy person to be around.

In the makeshift consultation room, Cyrus set his phone down, staring absentmindedly at the ointment on the table.
It wasn’t until someone called for him that he snapped back to reality. As he stood up to put on his white coat, his hand brushed against the wedding candy in his pocket.
He clenched his fist for a moment, then decisively threw the candy into the trash.
The car raced down the road.
Henry, still waiting for Shana to reply, suddenly turned to look at her. She was once again facing away, her head resting on the back of the seat, her eyes closed.
Clearly, she was pretending he didn’t exist.
“Shana!” He muttered her name, each syllable sharp, like he was going to crush it in his mouth.
He knew exactly who she was speaking to because he had glimpsed the caller ID earlier.
She was chatting away with another man in front of him, as if he were invisible. Did she think he was dead?
Shana started snoring lightly.
Henry, seeing this, chuckled with a mixture of anger and amusement.
He had wanted to give her the opportunity to come clean and confess, but now she was deliberately ignoring him.
Henry clenched his fists, tempted to throw her out of the car right then and there. But as he stared at the back of her head for a while, he reluctantly swallowed his frustration.
He needed her cooperation, not for any other reason, but because they were still scheduled to meet Duncan. Therefore, for the time being, he would leave her in peace.
Shana had been pretending to sleep, but after barely a few hours of sleep last night, exhaustion finally overwhelmed her. She drifted into real sleep.
When she woke up, the plane was landing at Portchester Airport.
The car was already waiting in the parking lot. Henry and Shana got off the plane and entered the car, heading straight for the hospital.
As soon as they entered the hospital room, a heavy ashtray came flying toward Henry at lightning speed.
It was about to hit him in the forehead, but he calmly tilted his head, narrowly dodging it. The ashtray crashed into the door behind him with a loud bang.

The sound made Shana’s breath hitch for a moment.
If it had hit him, it would have drawn blood for sure.
What on earth was going on with Duncan?
Sitting on the bed, Duncan glared at Henry, his face flush with anger. “You dare to dodge?”

Henry stepped forward, his tone calm. “Grandpa, what has gotten you so worked up? Be careful with your health.”
“How dare you ask?!” Duncan struggled to get up from the bed. “What did you and Shana do at that wedding banquet?
“How dare you treat Shana like this? She married you three years ago. You’ve been ignoring her, and she’s still silently supporting you, keeping your reputation intact. And you, in front of everyone, choose to protect that vixen who can’t even make a proper entrance. Do you want me dead?”
As he grew more emotional, Duncan began coughing violently.
Shana was stunned. It turned out Duncan was angry because of her. He was the only one in the Floyds who truly cared about her.
Her heart warmed, and she rushed to support Duncan.” Calm down, Duncan. Your health is the priority here.”
Henry didn’t seem to have expected this. His eyes darkened, and then he coldly questioned Shana, “Did you tell him this?”
He had immediately sealed off the news, and everyone present would respect his authority; no one would gossip in front of Duncan. Since Duncan had been hospitalized, the people who had seen him were few.
But then he remembered that Shana had mentioned Duncan would know about it if she stopped him.
Shana froze for a moment, then an unsettling chill spread through her.
Since their marriage, Henry has consistently blamed her without reason, assuming it was her fault.
Duncan interrupted before she could say anything, shouting back, “Don’t accuse Shana! She didn’t tell me anything! Roger came to see me and accidentally let it slip. There’s no secret in this world!”
Frustrated, Duncan picked up his cane and swung it at Henry.
Though he was sick, Duncan’s strength wasn’t small, The wooden cane hit Henry with a thud, making him grunt in pain, his brow furrowing tightly.
“You disrespect Shana, which means you disrespect me I’ll beat some sense into you, you ungrateful b*stard!”
Shana’s heart raced as she watched. Full of worry, she quickly tried to calm him down. “Duncan, stop! Henry, he just made the mistake all men make!”
don’t mind as long as he’s willing to come home. That’s enough for me.”
