She was a young woman, probably just over 20.

Gillian led her into the room and seated her on the opposite sofa. The woman sat directly across from Shana.
Shana’s gaze swept lazily over the young woman before she called out, “Aunt Gillian.”
Rarely did Gillian, who usually ignored her, respond with such a bright smile and enthusiasm, “You’re back! I made a lot of your favorite dishes today; make sure you eat well tonight. You look so thin.”
Shana smiled softly, her voice was steady, as she said, “Aunt Gillian, you’re too kind. I’ll eat more.”
Gillian then asked a few casual questions about Shana’s day. Shana answered briefly, not eager to initiate a conversation.
The servant brought out hot tea and fruit. Shana picked up an apple and leisurely began to nibble on it.
Ryan, absorbed in a game on his phone, couldn’t free his hands. He turned to Shana, “Sis, I want some oranges, ah-”
Shana rolled her eyes, but she still handed him a few slices, which she then shoved into his mouth.
“D*mmit, I died! Shana, you ruined my performance!”
Shana leaned in and took a good look at his screen, unashamedly calling him out, “You’re just terrible at this. You tried to take on five opponents by yourself. How about you try flying to the moon?”
The two of them traded playful jabs, completely oblivious to their surroundings. Gillian’s smile faltered, and she cleared her throat. Finally, she spoke up, “Shana, let me introduce you. This is my niece, Alina Harmon.”
Only then did Shana look up and properly inspect the young woman. Alina had large eyes, a high nose, and a sharp chin–a face that screamed plastic surgery, with no trace of anything natural.
Her figure was striking, with exaggerated curves.
Gillian turned to Alina again; she introduced, “This is Shana. Go ahead and say hi.”
Alina smiled and spoke with a hint of fake sweetness, “Hi, Shana. I’m not sure if you remember me, but you used to carry me when I was little.”
Shana lifted the corner of her lips, replying, “We’re about the same age, I couldn’t have carried you.”
-Alina had intended to get closer, but Shana’s blunt response left her awkwardly silent.
Observing the tension, Gillian became displeased and decided to address the matter directly. “Shana, Alina is in her third year of university. She’s looking for a good company to intern with and learn more about.
“The Floyd Group is hiring interns, and Alina is excellent. If you speak with Henry, perhaps she could be given the opportunity to learn at the Floyd Group.”

The reason Gillian cooked and acted so warm was to ask for this favor.

“Shana, I have excellent grades. I even brought my transcripts.” Alina hurriedly pulled out a thick stack of papers from her bag and placed them on the coffee table.
Shana took a quick look at them–straight A’s were quite impressive.
She picked up her tea cup, blew the leaves floating on top, and took a sip before saying, “Aunt Gillian, since Alina is so outstanding, she’d probably be accepted if she applied through the proper channels. But if I just put in a word for her and she ends up being brought in out of nowhere, how would her colleagues look at her? They’d say she’s just a pretty face with no brains, a privileged hire. Don’t you think so?”
She tossed the ball back without a care.
Before Gillian could respond, Ryan chuckled. “Sis, what if Alina is just a pretty face with no brains? If she could get in on her own, why would she need to beg you?”
The two siblings exchanged banter. Feeling humiliated, Alina’s eyes welled up with tears.
Shana, ever the tactician, avoided confrontation, but Gillian was already fuming. Her son’s comment only made her more upset, and she snapped, “Ryan, shut up. This is none of your business!”
“Am I not allowed to speak the truth now?”
Ryan muttered under his breath, but seeing the fury building on Gillian’s face, he quickly fell silent, giving Shana a look that said, “I can only help you this much, good luck.”
Gillian continued, “Shana, I’m your aunt. Do you think I’d harm you? Alina could stay close to Henry and monitor him if she joins the Floyd Group. This is for your benefit, don’t be ungrateful!”
“Is it really for my benefit?” Shana’s eyes locked with Gillian’s, cold and piercing, as if seeing right through her.
Gillian fell silent.
The tension was palpable when Brian walked in, breaking the silence.
Seemingly unaware of the tension, he cheerfully asked, “What are you all talking about, so happily?”
Shana was speechless.
Was her uncle oblivious to the reality that no one was happy?
Upon Brian’s arrival, Gillian instantly shed her icy demeanor and rose to retrieve his briefcase and coat. She said, “Dinner is ready. We’ve been waiting for the star.”
Brian laughed, “Then let’s eat!”
They all moved to the dining room.
After the meal, the servant brought out a cake, and candles lit. Brian, chuckling about being too old for such things, closed his eyes and made a wish before blowing out the candles.
Shana and Ryan played their roles, one singing the birthday song and the other performing a dance.

Brian looked content, especially when he saw the watch Shana had gifted him. His eyes sparkled, as if seeing light for the first time.
After cutting the cake, Brian selected the largest piece and handed it to Shana. “You’ve always loved cake since you were little. Here, have the biggest piece”
Shana accepted it and said, “Thank you, Uncle Brian.”
She took a bite–it was very sweet.
Brian stared at her, hesitating, as if he had something to say. Shana noticed this but remained silent, continuing to eat her cake.
“Shana, about the matter that Gillian mentioned, can you help her out?”
Shana knew what he was talking about. “Uncle Brian…
Brian began to wipe away his tears and said, “Shana, I’m simply helpless here. You know your Aunt Gillian -she’s very tough. If things don’t go her way, she makes a huge scene. I don’t want to hear arguing every day. For me, please talk to Henry. Just pass the word along.”
Shana was about to refuse, but a glimpse of the gray hairs at Brian’s temples and the exhaustion in his expression stopped her from speaking.
She took another bite of cake and softly said, “I can’t guarantee it will work.”
Brian was overcome with emotion at her promise. “Shana, I believe in you. If you speak, Henry will definitely listen.”
Shana thought to herself, With the way things are between them, if she asked him for help, Alina may as well give up on the Floyd Group forever.
The next morning, Shana had just woken up when she received another call from Brian, urging her to hurry because the campus recruitment was about to end.

Shana had planned to wait, thinking Henry, still angry with her, wouldn’t be returning to Moonville Bay anytime soon. She couldn’t be blamed for not being able to deliver the message to him.
Oh well, she figured Henry wouldn’t agree, so she’d just go through the motions. At least Brian would have something to report to his wife.
She tried calling Henry first, but as expected, he didn’t pick up. He was still angry.
Shana got up, washed up, and changed into one of Henry’s favorite elegant outfits before heading to his office.
An hour later, she pushed open the door to the CEO’s office.
Inside, a man wearing gold–rimmed glasses was staring at stock market trends on his computer screen. He looked up as he heard the noise.
His gaze met her smiling face. He smirked coldly, “Get out-”
